  1. Maybe this will help close out the thread... here it is, thanks Eric! That 1 polyp sure multiplied quickly But hmm, maybe I need a 20k light! (and sorry for the iPhone pic)
  2. Hey Eric, these are awesome! And this frag is way bigger than I thought I was getting. What a treat. THANKS!!
  3. Awesome, that's a great link. Now I'll just have to figure out where to get potassium permanganate if I have to treat the others. Alex, don't worry, I think the orange ones are OK. They have their polyps out looking happy and I couldn't find any white or bugs on them. I'm setting up a quarantine tank for them to be safe for awhile, and hopefully I will get rid of all the nudis. The one I lost was a purple and green frag that was fusing, oh well.
  4. NO WAY!!! We are so excited!!! Gillian was checking the boards on her iPhone in the car and actually screamed when she saw this, and I had to pull over to the side of the road to see it myself! We will take awesome care of the frag and definitely SHARE THE LOVE!!! (and someone here will have to teach me how to frag when the time comes... I don't want to mess it up!) Thank you!!! (clap)
  5. This morning I noticed my little monti cap had some white on it, so I took the frag out and found some of those nasty white nudibranches. It looks exactly like the pictures I found online. What do I do? I don't know how much I can save of this frag, it was small to begin with. But I don't want the nudibranches going after the other 2 small monti cap frags I have in my tank. What can I do to save them? Anything? Thanks for any advice...(scary) PS- how do I set up a quarantine tank? And how long do things need to live in there before going into my tank?
  6. Awesome, thanks everyone! We have a couple of new additions to the tank. I'm attaching some pics -- just iPhone pics, but pics nonetheless. I think a few things will get transferred over to the bigger tank when it's ready (the waiting is the hardest part, isn't it?). Clay, I will definitely have to check out your tattoo shop next time I'm in Eugene. I have one on my chest that definitely needs a touch-up, and one on my arm that needs to be somehow transformed into something better (I got that one when I was 18). ha ha.
  7. Just wanted to say hi and give a short intro. We took in a 12g aquapod pretty recently and fell in love with this hobby. We upgraded the lighting with a 70w Sunpod (thanks to grassi! so happy to find it locally) and got a koralia nano. We've started to add a couple corals (zoas, monti cap, candy cane and a small meteor shower). We'll probably add some carbon to the back soon. We've decided to try to go without a protein skimmer; just doing 10% water changes each week. Sounds like a refugium in one of the back chambers would be cool, too. The whole family is pretty into it now... and my wife easily convinced me that we needed a second tank for the upstairs (thanks to Davy Jones' Locker for the 24g!). So we're starting to cycle that, just need some more live rock. (clap) Thanks already for everyone's help. This is a great community and the forums have been invaluable. Best, Kendra (and Gillian)
  8. Hello! We just got a second Nano (a big thank you to Dave of Davy Jones' Locker for the great deal!), and we're eager to start cycling it. Does anyone have live rock and sand they want to sell? The tank is 24 gallons. Thanks! Gillian & Kendra
  9. Beautiful! We'd love to "share the love!"
  10. Hope no one minds if I piggy-back on this thread. What's the best way to get coralline algae off the sides of an acrylic tank? I scratched our tank trying to get it off by scraping with the edge of a credit card. I ordered a kit to polish the scratches out of the acrylic, but it started growing back before I even got a chance to polish the tank. How to I keep it at bay? We recently switched to metal halide lighting, so I was wondering if the increased light levels were causing the coralline growth. Should I cut back on how long we leave the light on? Thanks!
  11. Would love the wrasse and the zoas. PM sent. Thanks!
  12. Looking to add a second nano tank to our household sometime in the next few months, preferably another cube, but open to other styles as well. Would you keep us in mind if you're thinking about selling a 25-40-ish gallon system? We'd prefer a metal halide fixture rather than compact fluorescents, and a glass tank rather than acrylic. Thanks!
  13. PM sent for watermelon zoas and meteor shower
  14. Thanks, everyone! So the 150w isn't too much for the little 12g? How do you keep yours cool? RE: the fish... my clown is a false, and he's a huge bully. I was prepared for the damsel to be the bully because of what I had read about them, but she seems pretty submissive comparatively. Someone had suggested I trade the one clown in and get a pair of small clowns which would likely be more peaceful. What do you think? Would 2 small clowns and my small little blue damsel be too much for the 12g?
  15. Hi everyone, I'm new here and have some questions about lighting. I have adopted a 12g Aquapod from a teenager who had it stocked with live rock, live sand, a clownfish, a blue damsel, and some turbo snails. I added some crabs and smaller snails for the clean up crew (and man do they do a nice job!). Anyway, I guess I lucked out because the water quality is great, and now I'd like to add some corals. It sounds like halide lighting is the way to go if I want to grow anything other than soft corals. But my question is, what's the best lighting set up for a 12g Aquapod? I've read great things about the SunPod 16.5" but can't find it for sale anywhere. Is there anything comparable out there? Does anyone use the JBJ viper 70w? It doesn't look like there are any retrofits for the Aquapod 12 for modifying the canopy, so I'm planning to just take it off and put some eggcrate or other screen type material over the top (I have cats... cats I don't trust, so I don't want to leave it completely open). Thanks for any input you guys have. Best, Kendra
