  1. I made my own power bar. I have 5 separate 4x outlets, each individually controlled with a switch. This allows 20 separate outlets and when you plug a powerstrip into each one, this can give you about 20 more outlets. Of course you need to keep in mind total amps and all that, but it all works for me on a 20 amp circuit. I have my lights on one 4X, all my powerheads on another, and my return pump, chiller and skimmer on another. It works well for me.
  2. Defrag should help a lot. 4 gigs of RAM should be enough for everyday stuff (email, web surfing etc. although with Vista (the biggest POS ever foisted on humanity...IMHO) this may the minimum.) If the internet is slow, you could empty the cache and history in IE. With Windows, oftentimes wiping the hard drive and re-installing Windows will fix a multitude of problems, and is usually suggested to do every 6 months or so. Although I work for HP and appreciate the bump to my bonus check, the best advice I could give is to throw this thing in the trash and buy a Mac. All your problems would be solved....Forever.
  3. Not too many times I agree with reefnjunkie, but this time I do. Something is not kosher in Denmark. We need more info.
  4. Is it just me or have a couple threads gone missing today? What's up with that?

    Ipad

Here's a prediction.....In less than five years all brands of laptops will be outsold by ipads 500:1. Shoulda bought Apple stock 4 years ago........
  6. This is a great chiller. Mine kept my 180 at 78 degrees all summer long. It's also not too noisy as chillers go.
  7. Yeah, that's exactly why I'm looking for another instead of fixing this one. It's also one reason why I use a Mac.
  8. It takes a little fine tuning to get it going good, but once there, it does a good job. It worked great on my 125. I just got a new one when I upgraded to my 180.
  9. If I can get another for a decent price, I'll give the old one to you Ryan.
  10. Nope. Out of warranty. I've looked online and can probably fix it, but there are several was to do it. Do you know the right way to fix it?
  11. My son's Xbox just came down with a case of the Red-Ring-Of-Death. Does anybody out here have a used one they want to sell? We want to get him a Kinect for Christmas, but don't want to buy a new xbox as well. Thanks, Scott
  12. Since you bought an ACjr, do you want to sell the RK2? I'll take care of the update.
  13. I have a Coralife Super Skimmer. I had it on my 125. It's a little finicky but continuously pulled a lot of icky stuff out. It's the biggest one they make - good up to 220 gal. I'd like to get $70.00 for it.
  14. What would cause it to precipitate? Unless he is supplementing pretty heavy, there is nothing but dead rock in his tank that would cause this, is there? My vote is for an algae or bacterial bloom.
  15. Kim, I would NOT black out your tank or worry about this at this point. As Grassi says, this is part of the maturation process and usually happens at about the 6-7 month stage and lasts for a month or two. As long as everything looks and acts healthy, keep up your water changes and leave it alone, it'll be fine.
  16. Hey Alex, here are a couple pics of what your engine could look like..... The first is from my 1966 Mustang GT Coup and the second and third are from my 67 Fastback. I built both engines myself, so if you need any pointers or help I'll be happy to share. These are basically the same engines as in your Galaxy. It's a lot of fun to build engines and make the engine compartments look nice and clean. As old as these engines are, you are pretty much free to do anything you like without worrying about DEQ. The only limit is how deep is your wallet.
  17. Anyone in the Albany/Corvallis area interested in some big chunks of GSP, Kenya Tree, or some nice big frags of Pocillapora? Not really looking for cash; I'd be willing to trade for pretty much whatever. I just need to clean up my tank and this stuff is taking up too much room.
  18. You can try taking all that stuff back to Home Depot. Without a receipt they won't give you cash back, but they will probably give you store credit for it. I've done it with left over stuff from 8 months ago, no problem.
  19. Wow! Ok. 2 clownfish a Yellow Tang (with ich!) a royal gramma and a clam, all in a tank with dead rock and no skimmer or filtration! The ich isn't gone BTW. So you know how bad you messed up. Enough about that. If you really want to know how to fix this - and are serious about taking advice, then here goes: Get all your fish out of the tank tomorrow. Give them away if you have to. (make sure they know the Tang has ich) Same with the clam. Sell your corals (or give them away as well). The ich that your Tang has is still in your tank and on your Tang, you just can't see it. To fix that problem, you need to leave the tank fish-less for at least 6 weeks to get rid of it (this is the ONLY way) or you will always battle ich and it will be a neverending source of problems for you, not to mention your fish. It's best to do this now, while you are already having problems. Install your skimmer on Monday and then do not add ANYTHING (except fresh ro/di top-off water and maybe some LIVE rock from an established system) to your tank and let it mature for at least another 4 weeks. Then you can begin to add a clean up crew (snails and hermits). After another 4 weeks you can begin to SLOWLY add other livestock again. No-one is trying to chap your hide here, we're only trying to help. You started off badly, now you need to fix it and the easiest way is to start fresh as noted above. The best advice for a reef tank is to go SLOWWWLY!!! You added too many things way too fast and are now dealing with the consequences. Good Luck.
  20. So your the guy that put a clam in your new tank, right? I think a few of us told you that your tank is nowhere near stable enough for any livestock, let alone a clam. I hate to say I told you so but.....You need to get that clam out of there ASAP or it is a goner for sure. Your tank has not finished cycling yet so you probably have some parameters way out of whack (like your phosphates from another thread). Based upon the pics from your clam thread, you apparently have a bunch of dead rock, at least one clownfish, one cleaner shrimp and a clam, and you have no filter whatsoever. Again, I don't mean to be harsh dude, but you seriously need to slow down, get all of the livestock out of your tank and get your tank in shape now or all those things will be dead pretty quick. With no filter, my guess is all your parameters are out of whack. Re-test all of your parameters first thing in the morning and report them back here. That means Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, ph, and phosphates. Looking at your tank, unless you are dosing with stuff you shouldn't be, I seriously doubt the calcium reading you reported - Ca of 580? Where would all that come from in a new tank? Why are you waiting until Monday to get a skimmer? Go down to one of the LFS's and buy one immediately.
  21. Share the love!!! (Greetings from Singapore - still)
  22. Hate to be a downer dude, but, IMHO, that tank looks WAAAYYY too sterile to be keeping a clam. From what I understand, clams need a very well established tank (as well as good lights) in order to survive, they are filter feeders and filter stuff out of the water column - stuff your new tank does not have at this point. I sincerely hope it makes it. Good luck.
  23. You upload with a mac just like windoze. As finch said tho, it's much better to use a photo sharing site to do it. I use flickr. It works great!
  24. All for Fish down in Albany has some very nice T-5 fixtures for not a lot of money.
