  1. I would love to take the salt - will you be up near portland anytime soon?
  2. I have not tried either yet...but I am wanting to pick up the float switch kit and use two switches for double protection on my ATO.
  3. I can see both sides of this issue. The one thing I really don't know if I agree with is the fact that this club has done more harm then help to Joel's business. Joel, you and I both know I have dropped a fair amount of money your way over the past year, and you can sure as heck bet I have told others of the build quality and the good service I have had from you and Jordan. Yep, it was my skimmer pump that was beyond noisey that Joel replaced. Have I bought online? heck yes. I have not found anyone that carries some specific items and I have asked a few local shops to get the items in and they never have. Guess what? I can't and will not wait for ever. Sure, they were small items, but it would have gotten me in the store for other items (afterall, we all know it is tough to not leave with a new coral). Supporting local shops is great when it makes sense - but If I have to drive to the other side of portland to get airstones or a test kit then it is easier to get it online....as no one on the west side carries ELOS kits at this point in time (Waves may still have a few but by the time I need a new one Waves will be gone - and yes the recent ones were purchased at waves).
  4. Ushio 14k bulbs are trash in my opinion. I made the mistake of buying one and eww..too yellow. I had previously had a Phoenix 14k and really liked that. When I buy halides again it will most likely be the phoenix lamps.
  5. Frank is a good guy...too bad he didn't make the PNWMAS BBQ Hey Frank.....have you gotten your signature working with that controller? If not let me know and I can head over after I get back in town.
  6. I tried aiptasia X the other night on a small one...haven't seen him since.
  7. Tim and I have been doing a lot of trading recently...great guy and very fair. His tanks are very healthy and clean. A+ shop in my opinion. He should soon be a sponser.....
  8. I say glass. If you are concerned with the green tint then go Starphire glass. I have had both and will not go back to acrylic. Acrylic has a tendancy to bow, and over time develops those tiny little hair-like stress cracks and scratches WAY too easily for my needs.
  9. I would say a sponge...how fast did it grow over your zoas? I wonder if you can get that rock out and scrub the sponge off gently? Normally I like sponges to grow, but if it were doing that to my zoas I would not be too happy
  10. I agree with waiting 6+ months for the new system. Plan the move and design the system to your needs. 'buy your last tank first'. This is an old RV saying that slips nicely into the Marine hobby.
  11. The sad thing is....I bet this guy believes his own Bull!
  12. Green star is almost indestructible! Cut it, chop it..blend it... it will grow back. If anyone wants green star I'd be happy to hack mine up anytime - no charge!
  13. I feed the tank Oyster Feast once every 10 days or so. corals seem to love it. I shut off all pumps in the tank, spot feed some corals - then the rest I drop in and let 'rain' down. About 15 minutes later I turn on the closed loop for about 15 seconds to stir it up then wait about 15 more minutes to re-start all pumps.
  14. It is just around the corner! You don't want to miss out on this event - fun to be had by all! E-vites have been sent out, please RSVP at your earliest conveninece so we have an idea of how much food to supply (we will provide plates, burgers and hot dogs). Bring your favorite side dish, main dish or whatever to share with others. Thanks and see you there!
  15. Good to see you found us. You really should hit the BBQ this weekend at Blue Lake Park!
  16. Best damned company I have ever worked for!! We must be doing something right in this economy as we are doing well as a company Like any large company..some love and some hate.
  17. What kind of ATO are you running? I need to do this for my top-off container as well.
  18. I think we need a club meeting there soon! Maybe that would be a good place for the winter party??
  19. I can certainly hook up the utility trailer for your stand - tomorrow after church if you would like. I'm in Beaverton as well. Let me know, I will check PM's a few times in the morning before and after service. -Mark
  20. I make my RO/DI up in a 32 gallon rubbermaid and have kept it for weeks with no issue. It seems that between evap and water changes it does not last weeks anymore. Like everyone said, keep it covered and it should be good for months.
  21. I'm guessing that will heat things up quite a bit...fans MAY do it but I would keep a close eye on it during a warm day.
  22. I would say go look at some tanks and decide what style / size you like. I did just this and ended up with a custom built 60g cube with a custom sump and stand. Love the build quality (thanks to Joel at Waves). If you guys ever want to come look at it just let me know. You can start to think of powerheads and such, or just go with a closed loop system and pretty much eliminate any hardware INSIDE the tank. I run reeeflo dart for my closed loop and have as much flow as I would ever need, and then some Also depends on what you want to grow in your tank - softies or more of the sps hard corals. I run a 250w MH with a few t-5s and I grow a mix of SPS and soft corals, as well as a clam....plenty of light for everyone in there.
  23. I would think if you split your flow and used valves at each reactor you could run two off of one pump no problem, assuming that pump could handle the flow.
