  1. Where did you get the UV, didn't come up on a search
  2. I had a huge Clarkii that would bite when I got near her anemone, she met her demise when she went for my arm when I was reaching across the top of the tank. She shot up from the bottom, must of moved my arm and shot up hit a 400w MH which exploded, I thought she fell back into the tank but found her later behind the tank her face was all black, Heck of a mess to clean up with the glass in the tank and a nice burn on my arm!
  3. Welcome back! , sounds like a nice set up Steve

Also have the gravity fed to float valve in the sump.Water supply is a 5 gal bucket filled thru the Ro/Di unit, solenoid is turned on by apex twice a day for 20 minutes, keeps 3-4 gallons in the bucket 24/7. There is a float valve in the bucket also and I made a clear plastic tube water level gauge on the outside of the bucket since it's under the counter in the tank room. Been running for 4 years now without a problem. Steve
  7. For the Aqua III type?, I have one not sure what they are worth these days
  8. Welcome to the forum, post some pictures when you can we all love to look at new tanks Steve
  9. [language filter] that's to bad! I followed his thread from the beginning but haven't kept up on it for a year or more. If I remember the basement was unfinished when he started and he hoisted the tank to the back yard with a crane then took in in through a wall.
  10. Arrived last night, my parents said it had been raining for several days. We got in around 4 to cloudy skies and wet streets. It cleared up a little around sunset and this is what we were welcomed with. Woke up this morning to blue skies! Oh and a blue flash sunset to boot!
  11. Can't really add to the discussion since I bought 5 gal buckets of BRS 2 part, going to last years but I did read one of my spa/pool chemicals I paid $10+ for "Sodium Bicarbonate" lol I do mix mine up in 2 gal buckets from Home Depot in the winter then switch to 5 gal buckets just outside the tank room spring through fall
  12. This has been going on since I Have been in the hobby, the herbie, Gurgle Buster and the Bean Animal probably others out there. When I bought my 180 it had the internal overflow box 24" high and a 6" stand pipe at the bottom that's what got me started. The water would crash down then the gurgle and air noise, I raised the stand pipe up and it was Ok still pretty loud though
  13. You can cut the fittings, this is a 24" tank I built when designing my current tank. You can see the T is cut off, also the cap is cut which brought it down below the top of the tank. This is also a siphon on the right and a open channel without a 3rd emergency
  14. No it doesn't for a couple of reasons, his is only about 3" deep with the pipes out the back and the overflow inside the tank. Mine is on a overflow 12" deep, on the back of the tank and the pipes out the bottom but it functions exactly the same. Chris, you just need to raise the open channel up to the water level that you want, unfortunately like the bean animal design the pipe will be sticking up higher than the tank and be visible from the front
  15. IMO your pipes are to low, I didn't glue any of mine into the bulkheads until I had it all set. my pipes are 1 1/4" , 1 1/2 is pretty big for a tank that size, also I don't have any teeth on the overflow
  16. The three pipes in the center, someone pitched a fit once and said this isn't a bean animal because it doesnt look the same. The pipe on the left is the siphon, closed until the water level rises to the level to quiet the flow. The middle is the secondary set at that level, you can see the air line if the water level rises it will submerge and start the siphon, the pipe on the right is the emergency. Worked like a charm on the two occasions something got in the siphon, resets exactly to the level every time it's shut down.
  17. Mine doesn't "look" like the bean animal but it is basically the same, I would suggest not using the elbow for the siphon just a straight tube so you can raise the water level in the overflow then set the secondary at that height then the emergency. That would quiet it down so the water isn't falling so far. I'll look for a pic of mine
  18. Welcome to the forum! I wouldn't call it an obsession....unless of course someone were to start adding on to their house or tearing walls down....
  19. I had a lot of them so I got a Harlequin shrimp, they are under control now. I do get a starfish once a month or so, they come back a little when he has his starfish!
