  13. Thank you Jay for all that you have done. I have only been here for 4 months and have enjoyed meeting you and getting to know the workings of the club. Your dedication can be seen in the club, and the club is a reflection of time spent to help make it what is currently is. I hope that you continue to stay online and share your knowledge with us. Good luck in your ventures and don't be a stranger. Kevin
  14. Thanks VP. I have posted this thread is hopes to open this topic up for discussion as a form of education to new hobbyist as well as members. We do not always do things alike, and I wanted to see who had success with different methods, as I have had very bad luck with bagged fish when buying from shops that do not acclimate, but rather, sell straight out of shipping bag an hour or so from arrival to LFS. As a new hobbyist I am very limited as to my availability to buying fish. Thank you for your reply and for sharing this knowledge for educational purposes. I hope that it is a common concern for all who purchase sea life for LFS or online. We owe it to the captured to treat them with care and respect. Kevin
  15. Thank you for making this possible, this will be a great opportunity to lean. What do we think of the idea of starting a podcast on this board as an educational thread for members that are not able to attend, or for future reference. Thanks
  16. Thanks you everyone for your continued interest and support in this thread. I can see the all members don't agree, but, one thing is for sure, it sould like thereis a lot of different points of view. This thread was nothinf more then information and to share points of view. I am curious as to what products are used during this process to dip, acclimate, and medicate for any porblems that may arise. What do you use, and what do you use it for?
  17. This was not posted to be a fight, it was for discussion and education purposes only. I have just been reading for so long that hobbiest have been told so many different thing when it come to buying fish from online or from a shop right out of the box. This has nothing to do with buying fish from another member, or even a shop from their tank to a bag and then into your tank. How long do we acclimate fish that have been in transit for day? It might be the same comparison as, how long would it take you to adjust to a hot tub, or a cool sprinkler in the summer. Only it is water chem. evern it temp is not a factor. LFS may tell us dink it in swish it around for up to 5-15 min. while adding water every three min. or so, but does that really cut it. I know from asking Jason @ CRPC that his acclimation process from the bag is something like 10-12+ hours. aAn acclimation of even an hour is a far cry from even 6-8 hours to acclimate fish from online or LFS that sell straight out of box and bag to customers. Just would like you thoughts and ideas for discussion. I would welcome a reply from our VP in the club as to the discussion at HMSC. Thanks Kevin
  18. I think anything DIY is a great idea, rock included.
  19. (scratch) I am looking to pruchase several fish that will need a full treatment and then be placed in QT for 6-8 week until they are plump and healthy. I have attempted to do freshwater dips in the past, and the fish suffered after this treatment. Is it necessary to dip all new fish coming into your saltwater fish tank? How do you do your freshwater dip, and when do you do it ? Thanks Kevin
