  1. I am looking at a fish only bare bottom with hand blown glass, should look kill with my blue lights.. Thanks a million Kevin
  2. I might be interested depending on the price, but it sould like you have a deal going already. I am not going to throw a wrench in something already going...LOL. Thanks Kevin
  3. I am looking for input on starting a 75 Gallon bare bottom tank. I will be on vacation next week and have been entertaining the idea of a bare bottom tank with blown glass in for deco rather then live rock. I will be in Newport for the week and may pick up some glass items that are full of color. If I can spare the time I may go to the glass blowing shop in Lincoln City and try my hand at blowing glass myself, as the sign reads “Blow Your Own Glass Balls”. I am kind ripping off the idea from the Oregon Coast Aquarium, as they have one in there new exhibit area that looked out of this word with a nice fat lion fish that appears to be about the size of your hand. This idea is not a PITA alert.....LOL. I understand that “sharp” glass and fish don’t mix; however, I will inform the shop as to what I will be doing with it so I get the best possible deal for my new tank. Just looking for input to do the right thing the first time, it won’t be until late August. I also am wondering about upkeep on bare bottom tanks. It would be nice to hear from hobbyists that have bare bottoms tanks. I have read up on bare bottom tanks already, but have wondered what one would use for a cleaner crew in the kind of application. Thanks Kevin
  4. Your Visit To Corvallis Really not much around this area around here in the way of good fish, I believe that all of the good fishing is in your area of out beautiful state. If you into bass and pan fish West Eugene on the way to Florence has great fishing. You would need a small boat to het to the better spots in the water way. Yes there is a local shop here, it opens a 10 AM and is open until 6 PM, but it is closed from noon until 1 PM. Enjoy your visit and don't be a stranger, we will be having meeting and events in this area as well. Thanks Kevin
  5. I feel your pain; things are going to start to get easier in the months to come. We have a few opportunities to reduce the cost of ordering monthly supplies in bulk. This is only one of many areas that I will address with our new Board of Directors, as I plan to finalize the selection for board positions in the next week or so. I would like to place the right person in the most fitting position as we all need to work as a team. In the near future we can cut costs and we will be able to purchase in bulk. This will be one of our topics to cover, as well as to reorganize our Tanks for Teachers Program as I will be looking to purchase for this program in bulk as well. Please take a minute or two and visit a new thread that I posted today. I welcome your thoughts, ideas, and concerns as well as input on our club; your input will make our club better, but, you need to use your voice to be heard. I will be needing help with our club, so even though you may not be a board member, your ideas are still just as important to me. You may not have had the time to devote or interest in a board position, but you still are needed to help in our club. Thank you in advance Kevin
  6. Congratulation Kevin, Once again, it was nice to meet you during our Behind the Scenes Tour at the Mark Hatfield Marine Science Center as well as the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Thank you for your dedication in the marine science field we are honored to have you join our club. What an experience that must have been to serve your internship on the Oregon Coast. Please don’t forget the Pacific Northwest, I hope in some way you can call it a second home as you are always welcome to visit us in person when you return to Oregon. WOW, what a day job you must have and be sure to keep us posted on your adventure and enjoy it to the fullest. Please remember that you are always invited to post updates and photos on our website. So long friend, have fun, be safe and be sure to stay in contact with your club. Take Care Kevin

I would like to envite you to our upcoming event, Bob Fenner will be speaking at our June 22nd Meeting at JJ North's Grand Buffet. (clap) Check out front page for complete info, hope to see you there. Thanks Kevin (rock2) (laugh)
  8. Thank You, Let me first say that I have not had the opportunity to meet many members or participants in the club as of yet, I do plan to do so in the very near future. I will work hard to keep open lines of communication and always keeping the best interest of the club at heart; as the club is in much need of support of our members and to be well respected as a marine society. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, comments or input; as this is your club and it is counting on all of you to help make it everthing that you want it to be. Thanks Kevin
  9. Welcome DoughPat, It is great to see another teacher that is interested and willing to get involved in the very new program "Tanks for Teachers". It seem as though we are off to a slow start, but that will change by the end of summer. Please keep us posted, and we will help in any way possible. Thanks Kevin
  10. I would be willing to take some off of your hands as well if you still still have some and don't mind a non-trade. My tank is very new and next to nothing in it. I will shoot you a PM. Thanks Kevin
  11. Welcome to the club, it's always nice to have new hobbyist and new enthusiast to become involved in such an interesting and educational interest. We are all here to help you and give you advice. Many on here have many years experience while others have been learning with trial and error. Please keep us posted with update, and remember don’t be shy about bragging, and photos are the best form. Good luck and I hope to meet you at our many upcoming club functions. Thanks Kevin
  12. Welcome neighbor, yes, we are planning our next local "MEET and GREET" in our area, place and location will be announced this weekend after meeting with a few of our PNWMAS Board Members. We are looking at next weekend so gather your friends in the mean time. In the past we have met on a Sunday morning at a local resturant for brunch that last about 2 hours or so. Last time we met at Elmer's Resturant near Albertsons in Albany. We could meet there again, or another place that is clean and tasty. We have had people come from Salem and Corvallis and it was a nice time bragging about our tanks. I would like to do this again, and this time focus on how to build a stronger club for our hobby. I am here to support our local members and to offer help with your tank when needed. It is my mission to build this club to be strong locally as well as for anyone that is willing to participate in our club as a whole. Thanks Kevin
  13. Hey, "*** is CUTE", do we even have that in the fish world,.....LOL. That is too funny. Yes "Meet and Greets" are great, and it is a great way to get to know who is around you in the marine world while making new friends that have a like interest. This also is a way to strengthen our club and to start local projects to show that our club is alive and working together all over the Pacific Northwest. It's nice to have you on board with the same desire in Central Oregon, keep up the drive for our hobby and please keep us posted as to your seccess with participants in your area. Thanks Kevin
  14. Thanks Pledosophy, sending you a PM.
  15. What is the concern with copper used in tanks, or tanks with live rock? (scratch) What is the concern? (scratch) Can the rock be used ? (scratch) Can you do anything to change the effect that the copper has done to the tank or the live rock? (scratch)(scratch)(scratch) Thanks in advance Kevin (laugh)
  16. Cleaner Crew Suggestions? I have to agree, I like snails in to tank; they really seem to do a great job keeping up with this, as well as very neat to watch when cleaning the glass. One other this that I have that is working very well for me is very small blue leg hermit crab. They are only the size of a grain of rice or so and grow to a pretty good size in about 6 months or so. I started me tank of with some and they loved the green and red hair that seems to take over if not watched. (laugh) This is only my experience. Thanks Kevin
  17. I have not had a problem with Emerald Crab eating tankmates; however I have had large hermit that will feast on my snails.

  19. Back in January, I brought to the club the idea of a "Meet and Greet" for members and participants of PNWMAS to join together as hobbyists and get to know one another once a month. One of the things that I hope to accomplish in doing this is to get a good sense of the hobby myself as I am new; and bring new participants into our club. I would like to open this interest back up as I have received a very positive interest from so many; and I am still being contacted with great interest. Our PNWMAS VP Mr. John Manrow, (JManrow) is currently conducting a “Meet and Greet” in the Tigard Area; and is leading the way for the northern area of the state. I live near Corvallis; therefore I would like to get as many participants in other areas together that are willing to attend. With the price of gas these days it makes it hard to be actively involved in our club. So I would like to invite you to get to know club participants in your area that you have never met; or this could be a time to hang out with a few old saltwater hobbyist friends. I am mainly looking for places that we could fit a group into; so please keep that in mind. I believe that I-5 friendly locations would be best and it could be anyplace that would spark your interest. If you would like to become more involved or meet saltwater friendly people, please contact me via PM with your interests and idea of locations so that I might contact them. I look forward to your ideas; and remember, this "can be" a family event as children are welcome. Thank you in advance for your interest, Kevin
  20. Welcome to the club (rock2) very nice photos, thank you for sharing them with us. It is great having new participants and shared photos. Please share with our club your brags about you tank and how you got started. Thanks again Kevin
  21. Welcome back, sounds like a great time, and how cool that must have been. Kevin
