  1. I like that Eheims are dead silent, while the octopus has a slight hum. Not as loud as the stock skimmer thoughDOH!
  2. Mine is an octopus pump. I would go with the large Eheim if I had it to do again. The intake and output tubes are these... http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_AquariumPage~PageAlias~plumbing_parts_fittings_return_u-tube.html The intake screen is this... http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~action~view~idProduct~FT8355~idCategory~FIFTSTSP~category~Slip_Fitting-Strainers-Plumbing_Parts-Saltwater_Aquarium_Supplies~vendor~.html I get 90% of my stuff from Jason at CRPC. In fact, most of this was his idea.
  3. The chiller sits next to the tank on the floor. I would not recommend putting your chiller in the stand. It will lower the efficiency and probably overheat. Please pardon the mess, we have some extra visitors... cabinet chiller next to tank Intake to pump output from chiller
  4. I will try when I get home from work.
  5. I built a closed loop on mine using a 1000gph rated pump. The inlet(with screen of course) and outlet are the black pre-bent returns, and fit nicely in the rear corners in the display, I hardly notice them. I put the pump in my stand and drilled holes in the back for the plumbing. It fits well next to my ATO 5gal supply. HTH
  6. Looks like Zoa eating nudis. Get them out of there!!! You can dip with iodine or get a solution like TMPCC, I think. If you have a tank to quarantine them in, it is best.
  7. An old acrylic 55 or 75 would work, but let me know what you have collecting dust(whistle)
  8. I cant think of a reason you couldnt, but why not have a second drain as a back-up?
  9. Dave, What length of exhausting period was recommended? An opposite cycle, or just a couple hours? I would like to hear more of what you know about this.
  10. I leave mine running 24/7. Dont have a reason, just one less timer. Ive found it grows better in the 6500k range better than other spectrums. Most people run their lights on opposite cycles to keep ph balanced. I never really have ph problems the way I run mine, though.(knock on wood)
  11. I prefer glass as well. I think acrylic is great for frag tanks because it is easy to customize. Im sure acrylic tanks have other benefits, but I cant have one with kids and how clumsy I am (whistle)
  12. Great...There goes the neighborhood.DOH!
  13. Very nice. Looks like the move is going well.

    Finicky Acan?

I dont have much experience, but I did notice one of my acans doing the same thing. Once I gave up on trying to make it happy(moving it to more/less flow/light) it got comfortable and opened right up. Took about 2 months, though
