  1. I hope the tang makes it! Thanks for the warning! Do the Seios have some kind of protective strainer, or something for the intake?
  2. Well, I tried out the "Herbie" today (without the backups, since I didn't want to find out it doesn't really work and have ripped apart my return plumbing in the meantime). It's great, though. Almost silent! I'll have to get gate valves, though, because I can't get it dialed in perfectly with the ball valves. And of course, you can't find any 1" gate valves anywhere in Eugene. I'm glad to know that I can get this tank's noise to a tolerable level, even though I means waiting a bit longer once again to get it properly started. Is savko.com the best place to order the valves?
  3. Thanks for the pic! I wonder where you can get the perforated tubes, though I suppose I could drill a pvc pipe instead.

    Depressing

Miles, what exactly were the calcium blocks you mentioned earlier?
  5. I'll have lot of experimenting to do this weekend! I might give the "Herbie overflow" a try (from RC), using the returns in the overflow as the backup drains, and doing the returns over the back instead. What is it about the megaflow dursos that makes them louder? Apart from the three strange holes up top, they look exactly like a regular durso. And yes, the overflows empty completely very slowly, after turning off the return pump. The sump can hold the backflow, so I'm not sure I'm going to worry about siliconing in the standpipes.
  6. You don't have a picture, by any chance? I'm terrible with verbal instructions. And does this help with the noise of the water coming down the drain? Because it's not creating much noise exiting the drain line in the sump. It's the travelling of the water downwards that's the problem. No boiling water noises in the sump.
  7. Thanks for the silicone warning! And the drain lines are extending below the water level, but I don't have a vent stack on the end. So, I put a T on the drain lines and add an elbow that will be above the water level? To let the air escape? Like this? Excuse the horrible drawing! The red is supposed to be the T and the blue the 90 degree elbow.
  8. These megaflows are also very noisy! It's mostly the water rushing through the drain lines that's bothering me. Does anyone know of a way to silence that? I have flexible hose 1" drain lines and it sounds like I'm flooding the living room.
  9. Never thought of silicone! I'll try that, though I may just set the sump level so it doesn't matter, just in case!
  10. I'm testing my tank plumbing and I've noticed that the overflows on my tank slowly empty after I turn off the return pump. They are the megaflow kind, where the standpipes are not permanently glued in. They are just pushed into the bulkheads. Is this normal, or should the waterlevel remain up in the overflows to just below the standpipe intake?
  11. I'm suddenly feeling so closed in, in our 800 sq foot house! At least the fish will have some space in their 120G. Your new home looks lovely and the location, too!
  12. Thanks! Let me know how much I owe you!
  13. Did you already put the order in? If not, could you add two 3/4" female to female double sockets in black? I'll chip in for shipping.
  14. I used a clamp on the seams and it came out easily then. It's all finished up and ready to go on the tank. Mine didn't need a new drum, but the gear box was full of calcium deposits. It'll be good enough until I can afford and OM or something similar in the future.

    Drilled glass 75g

It *does* look like a crack! I bet you needed that beer after finding out it was just water! Congrats on a successful job!
  16. Liquid Sunshine has some (3/4" and 1", I think).
  17. I heard that, too, but there are people who use an eheim and get pretty good flow with penductors, though probably not nearly as much as with a pressure rated pump. The eheim is what I have to work with right now. I might switch it out sometime in the future.
  18. I *am* there, but the "press the sides and just pop it out with a screwdriver" does not work for me. Maybe I don't even need to take the drum out, since it's most likely the drum scraping against the inside that's causing the problem?
  19. Thanks! I just opened up my broken SCWD to mod it, and am already stuck. The drum came out easily, but does anyone here know how to get the gearbox out? I see no way to do this without damaging the two standoffs that hold the gearbox in place. Anyone here ever done an SCWD mod?
  20. if I use it as a return pump through and SCWD with 2 penductors? Have read a lot about the back pressure being too hard on the pumps, but other people run it with no problems. -Susanne
  21. Do you have a diagram of your canopy? I'm trying to decide what to do with my Tek fixture (hang from the ceiling, maybe, so I can raise and lower it as needed for cleaning?). But if there is a good way to hang it inside a canopy and still be able to reach into the tank without problems, I'd rather avoid drilling the ceiling. Will a canopy lead to overheating of the fixture?
  22. Thanks! Just keep in mind that the floor itself doesn't touch the ground. The only thing that does is the outside frame of the stand (the perimeter). Could I potentially use just part of a full length shim (the higher part in the back and the thinnest part up front) for all shims except the two sides that touch the ground all the way? Not sure if I'm making myself clear.
  23. This is a pic of it inside the stand:
  24. 3/8th of an inch is actually quite a bit. I wish it were less!
