  3. I just received this: ----- Original Message ----- From: Bev Ardueser To: John Manrow Sent: Monday, July 31, 2006 10:08 AM Subject: RE: Fall Beach Cleanup Hello, Each volunteer is asked to complete and sign the waiver form. There will be a feature on our web page called "Express Check-In." This will enable you to download this form, print it, complete and sign it and just turn it in when you arrive at the Beach Cleanup. This will save you time. There will also be a map on the web page showing all Registration Sites. In the meantime, if you have other specific questions, just ask me. We are working to have the web updated by Aug. 14. Thanks again for your interest. Bev
  4. Looks like there have been no objections to meeting in Tillamook. I still havent heard back forom Bev at SOLV about other locations. Should we go with Tillamook and post the location & info on the Calendar and the Meetings and Events thread?
  5. yes! We want pictures of those INSANE wrasses! (nutty)(naughty)
  6. Glad to see someone from WMAS here! I met Tim Weidauer and some of the Wasatch club about ten years ago... very cool people! I joined the SW Planted Tank forum. Thanks for the invite! I hope to be setting up my seagrass tank again soon. I had a nice crop of Halophila engelmannii and Halodule wrightii, but lost all after a move. I do have two 22 gallon breeder tanks packed with two species of Chaetomorpha (looks like C. linum and C. crassa). I'm in the process of building a stand for my 55 gallon SW Planted Seahorse Tank. I also have a 15H planted dwarf horse tank in the works. I really enjoyed the blog. Its hard to believe some of those tank pics are really tanks and not on the reef!
  7. SOLV Cleanup Saturday, September 16th 2006 Is everyone ready to participate in the Great Oregon Fall Beach Cleanup!?!? We plan on meeting in Tillamook, one of the 42 Registration Sites, when the event begins at 10am. In the Tillamook area, a Registration Site will be located at the Tillamook Pioneer Museum, 2106 2nd St. You will be asked to complete a Volunteer Registration and Waiver Form. From there, we can go anywhere to pick up trash. Just bring the trash back to the designated disposal area by 1pm. Volunteers should bring their own gloves, and to be safe while on the beach. SOLV will furnish the trash bags. If you have any questions, please post them here and I will forward them to the SOLV Coordinator, Bev Ardueser.
  8. Hello. John Manrow here. I started keeping freshwater aquariums when I was about 8, and by 13 I got into saltwater. There was not much in the way of live corals available in 1968, but I did have a 15 gallon plexiglas tank with a sebae anemone and a couple of ocellaris clowns. I started my first 20 gallon "mini-reef" in 1987. I have been active in a few aquarium societies over the years and have also worked for retail fish stores and wholesale distributors in both California and Oregon. My wife Constance and I live in Tigard, Oregon, which is located just out of Portland. Our kids are grown now with kids of their own, so now we have time for enjoying our hobbies. We enjoy our 40gallon reef, and a 55 gallon heavily planted tropical freshwater tank. I also have about a dozen empty tanks which are slowly being set up again thoughout our apartment. We are very happy to be part of the PNWMAS 'Family'. I'm the one in the cap & PNWMAS t-shirt.

    Clownfish eggs

Another source to buy them for a fairly reasonable price is Sach's Aquaculture. Rotifers http://www.aquaculturestore.com./swinverts.html Nannochloropsis and Tetraselmis http://www.aquaculturestore.com./plants.html

DT's Phytoplankton (Regular, not Premium Blend) is a mixture of live Nannochloropsis spp. You can try that or possibly start a culture with it. If you have rotifers, you will need to feed them phytoplankton or some other food, as the rotifers themselves have very little, if any food value. The Premium Blend DT's should work fine for feeding purposes, although I'm not sure if a culture can be started with it. I am trying to obtain some Nannochloropsis, Isochrysis, and Tetraselmis to start cultures again, possibly some rotifers too. If all goes well, we can all envetually have these cultures going for feeding our marine fish larvae, filter feeders, and corals. I will keep you all posted.
  14. Ive been there a few times till about 8:45 or so, but if one shows I leave. Tonight I was just plain tired. We usually get a good turnout if a chat reminder is posted Monday morning with a topic.

  17. I agree the current banner should remain. We finally seem to have a stable website for a change. Our banner/logo should be the same way!
