  1. Like the others have been saying, don't worry about small bristleworms. Sorry to hear about the loss of your fish. Brooklynella can run its course and kill very quickly, sometimes in a matter of hours. It seems to be most common in newly shipped, wild-caught clowns. Saltwater ich (Cryptocaryon and Oodinium) sometimes disappears in a reeftank as fast as it appears. Other times it can wipe out all fish, especially in a fairly new setup. Here is a quick description http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/ichparasiticdiseases/ and more detail ones with various treatments http://www.marineaquariumadvice.com/library.html __________________
  2. Here's a short follow up on the Irwin Family 3 weeks after the diving incident on Batt Reef. http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,20484733-3102,00.html
  3. Horrorfest Hey Stacy! Here's your chance to win $50,000. http://www.youtube.com/horrorfest Here are some of the entries so far - some are not bad... a few really suck. http://www.youtube.com/groups_videos?name=misshorrorfest
  4. This is one of my favorite gore (not Al) type sites... have to buy the kit one of these days... have all kinds of fun freaking out Grandma. (naughty) http://www.distefano.com/ .
  5. either ya love it or ya hate it - Halloween's coming up again.   (scary) (scary) (scary) Someone had to start this thread so here it is (naughty) (rock2) (sick) (puke)
  6. While the Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is on this list of poisonous housplants, http://penmarric.ns.ca/catcare/usefulinfo/badplant.htm and is even listed as a safe plant on these lists: http://www.pets.ca/articles/article-catplants.htm http://www.cfa.org/articles/plants.html (By the way, African Violets are considered "safe".) With conflicting lists like this, just get some "Bitter Apple" http://www.bitterapple.com/ to spray on all your houseplant leaves. It tastes terrible and animals will not chew on it. Works great for keeping animals from chewing on their bandages too. You should be able to find it at most pet or feed stores or online.
  7. Are you talking about amphipods(Gammarus) or copepods, which Randy Reed recommended for Mandarins? I am still waiting for the rotifers and phytocultures (Nanno., Iso., & Tetraselmis)to show up from an Idaho club. I paid for the shipping already. It would be great to see someone get some copepod cultures distributed thoughout the club.
  8. The first thing that came to mind when I saw the pics was Nudibranch eggs. Sorry, no positive ID on those.
  9. Regarding http://whyfiles.org/245coral_reef/index.php?g=4.txt I had read that about some Fiji Rock actually being closer to Aragocrete. Here's a quote from "The Reef Aquarium - Volume Three" by Sprung and Delbeek, Pages 68 and 69. "Aquacultured live rock is becoming more common in the trade and is gaining favor with environmentally conscious aquarists. In some cases, calcareous rock from terrestrial sources is used (e.g. Florida aquacultured rock) and in others live rocks are made from mixes containing calcareous rubble and concrete (e.g. Fiji, Hawaii). The reason for this is that local government regulations often require that the aquacultured live rock not resemble local live rock to dissuade the poaching of illegal local sources."

  11. Oh yeah... firefish are well-known for rocketing out of tanks when even slightly spooked. "Eggcrate" light diffuser may help keep it in the tank, but they sometimes jump though the grating anyway.
  12. Welcome Vince! Sounds like you are off to a good start! Very nice setup. Galaxea is a beautiful coral. As far as the wrasse goes, thats just his normal behavior and really not much you can do about it. I know a freshwater dip in RO water is sometimes used for ridding liverock of flatworms and mantis shrimp. As long as the dip is not for a long period of time, it should not harm much of anything. Adding any livestock can cause an ammonia spike, many times hardly noticeable. Add gradually to your tank. To minimize this when adding liverock, fully cured rock would be best to add, otherwise allow your rock to finish cycling in a tub or tank of its own. This also gives an excellent opportunity to spot any unwanted "hitch-hikers" before they make it to the main tank! If you are using fresh liverock, by all means do this first.
  13. Cheer up Jay...just think of the bbq (in the rain):p things could always be worse...
  14. I used to buy Ball Pickling Lime at Fred Meyers. Try there.
  15. The Seahorse Oceanfront Lodging looks very nice. http://seahorsemotel.com/ Have a great weekend. Happy Anniversary!
  16. Check with some of our sponsors first. Pacific Coast Imports(wholesale) supplies many of our LFS in the area.
  17. Gen-X heaters at Pacific Coast Imports http://www.marineandreef.com/shoppro/heaters_pacific-coast.html
  18. I have looked into heaters that are used for raising Discus. A high quality heater is absolutely necessary raising these fish! Ebo-Jager, Rena, Won Bros., Hydor, and Rainbow-Lifeguard Systems are a few recommended. Has anyone used the Hydor THEO heaters? I would like to find more information on these. http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_heaters_hydor_theo.asp?CartId=
  19. I have had a Won Bros. heater since 2002 and it's still going strong. I have seen many Aqua-Vias returned to the LFS. I have not yet tried the Gen-X Titaniums. Since titanium heaters are relatively new in the hobby, I'm sure improvements have been made in the last couple of years.
  20. Has your evening or weekend been disrupted by a call from a telemarketer? You can register your phone number for free, and it will remain on the national do-not-call list for five years. I was previously on the list when you remained on the old list for that was for 6 months. I just re-registered online. No telemarketing calls now till 2011 !!! http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall/
  21. I went to the normally anti-zoo, anti-circus, anti-aquarium, anti-pet keeping, PETA website today to see what kind of Steve Irwin bashing might be going on. What I saw there was really unexpected... nothing but sadness for the loss of Steve and sympathy for his family. No one could deny his true love for animals and his family, and that he was a great conservationist. Steve has genuinely touched the hearts of millions of people Worldwide. The Courier Mail seems like the best that I have found online for up-to-date Queensland news. http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/ http://blogs.news.com.au/couriermail/watercooler/index.php/couriermail/comments/your_tributes_to_steve_irwin/P2430/ Please visit and donate what you can to: http://www.wildlifewarriors.org.au/
  22. lol.. this fish needs to be put on the endangered list and not collected... in the meantime, definately not purchased!
  23. Did anyone happen to tape this episode of "New Breed Vets" that was aired last November on Animal Planet? I would sure like to see it. I think a VHS or DVD might make a nice addition to the PNWMAS Library. http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/newbreedvets/bios/millermorgan/millermorgan.html http://oregonstate.edu/dept/ncs/newsarch/2005/Nov05/vet.htm
