Teramelos Posted October 3, 2019 Share Posted October 3, 2019 Looks like palytoxcin has gone airbourne in my apartment and currently been at OHSU for 5 hours getting evaluated and tested. I will be removing all 30+ colonies of zoas from my collection. Posting soon or will try and trade them all in at an LFS. We have had a few instances recently (Holly’s eye comes to mind). While I am sure it’s hard to share hopefully your experience will help others avoid problems in the future. Teramelos Posted October 8, 2019 Author Share Posted October 8, 2019 Okay sorry late reply I had Palytoxcin enter by body through a paper cut and a few hang nails experienced all the classic symptoms and went to OHSU they ended up after 6hrs of waiting had their whole 8 doctor toxicology team waiting in a room for me. They were all super fascinated and the head MD was the regional palytoxcin specialist and it has been her favorite toxin since she started her medical journey so I knew I was in good hands. I explained my fragging procedure and did inform them I ignorantly didn’t not use gloves or a mask. Long story short she informed me that to the medical fields knowledge no one Zoa colony can kill you even if you ate it which they strong discouraged 😂 You will feel all the symptoms but to their knowledge the only way it can kill you is if a fish or crab ate zoas then a bigger fish only ate the species that ate zoas and then you ate that said bigger fish the toxin would have built up concentrated Emo if the to kill a human. Similar to the mercury theory in Tuna. If it gets in your eye like what happened to Holly then it will cause a lot of other issues but as far as our zoas killing any of us we are in the clear and should just take appropriate precautions.
