  1. We got some from Beau, huge and beautiful plug!
  2. I know that I returned the handheld on 11/5, it was reading low battery.
  3. I was not intending to sit and watch the entire thing at this moment, but I got totally sucked in. How fascinating!
  4. I bought some critters from a web site, which I hate to do (because of all the risks and costs of shipping), but they had Pederson's cleaner shrimp in stock, and we wanted more than the one we have. Everything came good, large, healthy, but the only problem is... they sent us two White Spotted Anemone Shrimp instead of Pederson's. 😭
  5. Thanks very much for sharing your experience (and pics, the anemone certainly is beautiful)! My boyfriend had also mentioned just getting a mushroom. Not sure how well they'd do in high light/flow or what would be best to try at least... I've also never really been into the ricordea type mushrooms, I guess. There's only one section of the tank that would be inconvenient for the anemone to plant itself. Most of the stuff in it can be moved. I may give the anemone a try! 😊
  6. I've never wanted or intended to get an anemone. So I've never seriously educated myself on them. I know they move where they want in a tank and cant be reasoned with, stinging corals as they go, eating fish and other things if they can (?!), and most get very large! I wanted to get some sexy shrimp for my 5g peninsula. It's fairly high light, high flow, mostly sps oriented. So not much that would interest a shrimp to live in at all. In my reading of corals I could potentially get for them, it seemed the most wide-spread success with them was the mini maxi carpet anemone. I knew of carpet anemones, but not this specific kind. Would it be a good fit, do you think? Or is there something easier? What's your personal experience with them? (Other tank inhabitants include 3 birdsnest corals, one branching cyphastrea, one plug of gsp on the back wall, tiny zoas and an entrusting Monti that can both be moved, some branching coralline algae, a cluster of fireworks cloves, cerith snails, one stomatella, one conch whom I love, and one temporary inhabitant of a peppermint shrimp who'll be gone once he finishes his aiptasia work.)
  7. In this tank, I only have this one. It's not even properly attached (in fact, the crab had knocked it upside down onto the sand when I came home today) so well take it out and then see what kind of dips we can try. Seems like everyone has a different suggestion, so have to sort through it. The coral doesn't really show any damage at the moment. Hopefully we can save it.
  8. I intend to bring the handheld back thiS afternoon. It's still reading low battery, fyi.
  9. Yesssss! I'd be thrilled to get my greedy hands on some purple bacteria friends! We'd love to pre-order 16oz! 💜
  10. I paid our deposit and can come and get it tomorrow late afternoon.
  11. Is it our turn, or Lavender again [since they couldn't get it to work before it sounds like]? Otherwise I can pay deposit and get it tomorrow.
  12. I have the smatfarm 60w on my 5g tank and I love it. It's by far the easiest light we have, of three. I have no idea the PAR until I can borrow the meter, so I may be blasting my corals or not, but hopefully I'll know soon. We have an AI Prime for a future tank but haven't even unboxed it yet. I see you already bought your light, so kind of late now. There's tons of cheap clip on lenses for your phone you can get on Amazon for ~$20. I have two macros, because I lost one and could NOT find it anywhere, so had to buy a new one. Then one day I discovered SOMEone had used it as a chip clip. 😒 Your tank is so nice and clean, mine gas become an algified mess this week, but trying not to stress. Welcome!
  13. I was hoping to be able to make it, even though Sundays are hard for us, but I've picked up a URI anyhow, so that settles that. I'm sorry to miss the bacteria talk, the article was very interesting and exciting though! I hope you all have a great time!
  14. It's only lived here for 1 night, so I haven't looked. I'll watch it tonight for sure! The scientific classifications are tough for me. Part of me doesn't care if someone uses an older classic name, part of me wants to be correct so I don't feel like an idiot. But, all of me thinks it's lame to snidely correct people using older names. And also all of me is easily confused by the various scientific name progressions when I'm still just trying to learn the basics! 😆
  15. It was more just seeing that what was advertised as australomussa rowlyensis had gone through a few name changes and now was apparently lobophyllia.
  16. That's good to hear--for me at least! I figured it would grow slowly. Post pics if you get a chance, I'd love to see!
  17. I bought a frag of, well what was advertised as australomussa rowlyensis but I now "understand" to be lobophyllia rowlyensis. I just wanted to share because I think it's so beautiful, glowing like an ember! It looks like an underwater lava vent or something. The frag I received is huge... and looks even huger in our nano LPS tank 😅 plus the generous seller sent me TWO frags! So one is in the sps nano tank (hidden in an arch to try to spare it too much light/flow), due to lack of room. But might have to rehome one, just because of space until we get off our bums and set up the 40g. I guess it doesn't look like much... but I still love it!
  18. Is the handheld unit out now? We're waiting to measure our new light so we can glue some stuff down. Monday is our normal day to come to CNC but since it's closed, we'll have to work out our schedules as soon as we know our name is up. And pay the deposit of course.
  19. I just bought some of this variety. I can't speak to how metallic or shimmery it looks yet, but will let you know if it looks similar to what you were looking for.
  20. Specifically this: https://www.aquaculturenurseryfarms.com/saltwater-snails/dove-snail/ which I believe is in the columbellidae family (like the lightning dove snail, but a different sub species), but honestly it seems like a person is as likely to get a totally different species, since there's many varieties of snails called "dove snail" and they all look so similar. If it's a true nano conch and as small as the dove snails to clean fragile stems and small nooks and crannies, I'd be interested!
  21. Looking to buy some dove snails (not lightning dove snails).
  22. It has a lid, although the lid is open in the middle. Nothing to worry about escaping at the moment at least.
