Before the pandemic we held meetings nearly every month.  During the pandemic, we cancelled all the in-person meetings, but held a variety of raffles, contests, and giveaways to keep people interested and active in the club.  So far this year we've had in-person meetings in April, May, June, and now our upcoming August meeting.  We're also planning something for October, and a holiday party in early December, so you still have a few more upcoming chances to join us!

Awesome! Phew, thanks! Looking forward to it.

  2. Just got a Tomini Tang, it's in a 10G QT and doing great. No meds, eating everything I give it.

I found out I'm going on a surprise birthday trip which means it would be without food for 3 days. It's a 5 day trip but would feed it when I leave and feed when I get back. I plan to "bulk it up" with lots of food this week before we head out.

Question for all of you - would you just let it be or try an auto feeder? I worry it would dump too much in and foul the water, killing it.

Is 3 days without food risky?

  3. Hi everyone,

Please don't make this a political post about your like or dislike of politicians or a political party that is not the intention of this post.

The house passed the America Competes Act and within it they added the Lacey Act. Within the Lacey Act it changes Federal Fish and Wildlife rules to a white list enforcement of animals traveling to and within the US. Meaning the default is banning all animals that are not domesticated and granting exceptions to species to be placed on the white list through a government process.

Please consider emailing your state representatives and senators if you feel this is not the right approach. I just emailed my representative and senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden.

If anyone else has read up on the Lacey Act and has additional insight please chime in.

Here is the US government website on the act:

Here is an opinion post on what it would mean if made into law:

  4. Thanks guys, I think I'll make it simple and plug both 150w into the inkbird and plug that into the Apex. Inkbird will be the main controller with 0.5deg variance and Apex will be my backup to turn the inkbird off if it fails in the on position.

    Probably was overthinking it before.

Btw I watched the fixreef video recently which led me to fix a nonfunctioning EB8, a write up is still on my to-do list.

  5. Which is better?

    A 150W heater that's on pretty much 24/7

    OR

    2 150W heaters that click on/off together?

    Here's what I mean:

150W heater (this was without a controller but would use one to cut off the peaks and keep within 1deg:

    2 150W heaters:

I have an inkbird and Apex so not worried about failsafe or dialing in the right temp. Mainly a question of whether it's preferable for a heater to always be on or cycle on and off. And whether sharp peaks matter within 1deg.

  6. Hey everyone!

If you have any broken, nonfunctioning, or old apex gear I'd love to take it off your hands. Just got into learning how the devices communicate with each other over aquabus and working on a project to repair one of the chips on a EB8 (will post a write up).

I'd love to tinker with some more nonfunctioning gear or old items.

If you'd like to "donate" any gear let me know!

    Thanks

  7. I had my packages stolen off the front porch last night 😡

In it was 2 Kamoer X1 dosing pumps, in case anyone sees 2 new ones pop up on craigslist or FB marketplace locally, please let me know. It would likely be the person who swiped them. The other package taken was 10lbs of 2 part.

    Really frustrating.
