  1. I just bought a 5g hedpack jug, something like this : https://bascousa.com/hedpak-5-gallon-container.html might work for you, might not 😁 just an option
  2. Yeah I personally would try to get some macro going in there to take up whatever nutrient that the DT algae is growing with, throw that skimmer back on and do whatever manual removal you can. Though I'm no expert just my personal experience. I was siphoning the algae through a sock filler into the sump daily for a while till it eventually reached a balance .. though mine was centralized on rock so it was a bit easier to siphon.
  3. Just my $0.02 Do you have a sump/nutrient export? I was dealing with that till I got some macro going in my sump and started feeding more to get the macro going and taking up the nutrient that would otherwise grow algae in my DT. Hard to tell though without full knowledge of your sys.. What are your other water parameters looking like?
  4. I do still have the PAR meter safe and sound Though I sincerely apologize, I will be out of town for the week and will be able to return it next weekend..
  5. Yeah it's a really hard thing to do, I've been trying to play music with friends virtually that live far away and I really have not found a good solution that's even remotely easy to setup. You might look into a chat only (or some sort of dual) option, I think the lag is mostly trying to sync video which must be tied to the chat. But sadly that looses a lot of the experience.. I'll be gone for a week but when I get back I'll see if I can research some options too 😁
  6. Just wanted to say that a few weeks ago, I missed out on their frag pack offers but Holly put together a custom pack for me after I PM'd and let her know what frags I was interested in. I got some great corals which are doing awesome and already showing growth!! Holly was very friendly, my wife and I loved meeting her and seeing their setup Just wanted to say I wouldn't hesitate to purchase corals again from them and it was an awesome transaction
  7. Yeah I think I'll just stick with the aqueon for another week or so till I get a controller.. it's doing the job for now 😁
  8. Hi Folks, So my Eheim heater was fully submerged since I purchased it (June 2020) and the other day I heard a battle between the chiller and heater so I dug into the sump to see what was going on. I found out that there was a bit of condensation in it and it seemed to be inconsistent so I pulled it and replaced it with a cheapy aqueon adjustable in there (which is actually keeping temp better than the Eheim, go figure ) Anyone else have issues like this with Eheim? I have used them in the past without any issues, I've sent an email to their customer support to see if they will repair/replace i but would like to see what other options there are or what others think. My considerations are that I would like a controller but I've got a pretty small system so space is sort of an issue but I guess I could fit another probe and controller on the rig. I do also just like a heater that has onboard temp control and is just a drop in. I guess my question is does anyone have any recommendations for heaters with built in controls? Or is it better to just suck it up and drop the money and make the space for a controller, especially since I have a chiller and a controller would be a good way to manage both?
  9. I was very much debating the nano vs. full, but I do only have a 20g so space was a concern.. and there was quite a bit price difference if I remember. Although I think that on the full version the float is a backup for the optical sensor and with the nano it has a 'backup timer' which can be adjusted between two settings and will kick off in 1.8 minutes at the lowest setting which will (depending on height and length) deploy .3 to maybe .8G of topoff water. That is if your major concern is overflow.. as far as failure to read or notice when topoff is not occurring, I'm not sure what failsafe there is out there. I think most failsafe is to prevent overflowing your tank. Mine failed by not topping off (float stuck in up position) instead of overflowing...
  10. hahaha oooh, the pink panther looks cool too but I think I'll just stick withe the rainbow goni. I'll shoot you with my info once everything comes in and if I want more
  11. oooh can I change my red goni frag to this rainbow goni?! no worries if no
  12. Yeah, the sale was fun, great idea for quarantine! Just FYI, the way Google handles livestreams through youtube they aren't all sync'd directly to the streamer.. so it's 'live' in a sense that it's streamed to the watcher, but not actually live in synchronized timing with other watchers and/or streamer.
  13. I kinda think you always have that possiblity with any technical automation systems, nothing is completely fail safe! I'm not exactly sure what happened with mine, I think the float just got stuck, I'll be going for a week long trip here soon but will have someone sitting the tank but it will be a real test for sure 🙂
  14. I went with the tunze nano, been working great.. except for the one weekend I went away and it got stuck lol but other than that been working fine, I don't ever really let the top off container run dry but I think that's a complaint about the tunze pump not restarting correctly, that and it only uses one float valve
  15. Thanks for the info, they are (from what I can tell) an orange monti and a green with purple polyp.. Ok, that makes sense.. I did two that were decent sized pieces side by side and another mish-mash of the random pieces that were just sitting in the bottom of the fragging tray
  16. OOh, the green and blue would be pretty cool, especially since the green monti has the purple polyps and purple rim! or even just a 'psychadelic' one of them all together haha I'll hit you up to grab a piece especially since we are so close
  17. I heard OR legalized those magic mushrooms I don't make it to PDX all that much and unfortunately not planned within the next few weeks, I'll update if something comes up and I do need to head there.
  18. Yeah, I think I got all the majano's out of the DT, I found a few stragglers in the sump with some LR I got in there which were either removed or encased in carbonite(super glue) .. the peppermint has done a great job with any aptasia in the DT and things are going pretty dang well so far, I guess I paid the price for getting someone's 'leftover' live rock haha but it was established and probably saved me a good 6 months of waiting and I also got a few nicer hitch-hikers like a few cool mushrooms and I guess the kenya tree
