  1. This is also the first I've heard of Seachem Prime - can I use this to help mitigate the ammonia toxicity in my QT while using copper and prazi?  Poor dudes in a little 10gal tank are probably not super happy.
NOOOOOOO!! Non cheated copper and prime is highly toxic!

Copper power and prime is fine.
Cupramine and prime = Cu+ very toxic.

  2. Studies have shown that hypo salinity does not kill all ich.

I ditched copper recently and started using chloroquine phosphate. Start with a clean tank, no bio filtration.

You do one dose of CP. Dose prime every other day. 30 days your done. No testing, no transfering. Kills velvet, ich, uronema and alage.

  3. Hey gang,

Jeremy is the proud new owner of my AGE 300. Jeff from CF is coming over in addition to myself and Jeremeys dad. This isnt going to be some all day affair. The tank is on a stand, we lift it off, place on dollies and roll to the truck. Lift on truck, drive to his house and the exact same process in reverse.

We are thinking 2 hours tops.

I am not the kind of person that likes to ask for help. At the same time, I have helped a lot of people on the forum, whether is has been advice, meds, stupid good deals on frags, having a club meeting at my house, building people tanks and sumps...blah blah blah. I enjoy the club and I enjoy helping people when I can.

The local forum is about community. More so that R2R because people are local. So I am asking that if someone can give us 2 hours of their sunday, it would be greatly appreciated.

If the thought of going out of your way to help someone you dont know seems ridiculous to you; well, I would ask you.. why are you even here?

    Thanks everyone!!

  4. This is the joy of tangs.  They will settle down but at this point you need to keep a CLOSE eye on the health of the yellow.  Open sores, loosing weight, discoloration.  you need to grab him out of there and put him through a round or two of antiobiotic treatments.  The hippo will likely be fine as they are good at hiding.   The mirror trick may work I have never tried it.

The most aggression usually lasts like 3-4 days unless you have  a really psychotic tang.. powder blue or achilies.

    In the future:

-The more fish you can add at the same time the better.

-Super feed the tank for a week before hand.

-Add a bunch of rocks to the aquarium, block the areas that the existing tang uses for cover, do this 2-3 days before the addition.

    - always always always add at night.  NEVER, EVER add during the day.

    - at this point you need to disrupt the habitat of the existing tang population... add rocks, put a net or two into the tank.

  5. These... great for adding prefilters to your RODI unit or if you are really savvy, splitting your DI section into separate cation and anion media chambers.

They look like the ones pictured, they were purchased from the filter guys. Little rust on top because... salt water.

    $20 each.. I have 2 pairs.

  6. Properly installed slate tile is actually quite strong. Even if your stand had legs and not a solid bottom rail the PSI exerted on the slate would be around 50 psi max.

I pogo sticked on my slate floor and I weigh 200 lbs.

As a reference, my tank will weigh 6000 lbs with 8 double 2x4 legs. That's only 61 psi on each leg.

You will want to get a good sealer for the slate though, it is porous and that could lead to salt stains. I'm not sure about that part..but it makes sense.

Now that you're done... I could really use a new sump for my fishroom remodel.   Nothing fancy. but to fit it needs some non std dimensions.

Any chance you've got scrap around and willing to build me a plexi box?    32" long x 26" wide x 23" tall.   I'll drill and tweak after that.  But my sumps have always basically been boxes, and add afterwards.
