  1. I feed 1-30μm phytoplankton in the form of Brightwell Phytochrom and my 3 clams are... well, happy as clams! I'm just taking a stab in the dark at what might be ailing you.
  2. I love seeing any species get figured out that way so as to lessen impact on wild harvesting. You're totally right, that fish could have leaped out of Dr. Suess' sketchbook. Do you mind if I ask where you acquired him?
  3. Such a cool fish. That's the one that they just learned to captive breed right?
  4. @spectra When you pay more for the custom cutout for the mount than you do the TV... Also yawn on those tattoo's. Can't wait for the party! Bringing our daughter again since she had so much fun at the last one.
  5. Nice! I'm just about to start cycling my little tank for these guys. Where did you end up getting them?
  6. Home plug tech is awesome when it works but it is completely dependent on the electrical wiring in the building. For what it's worth I'm on house number 2 where it works fine, same brand even. @TheClark I would guess the firmware needs a wired connection for the same reason a cell phone does. Losing connection in the middle of a firmware update is usually a quick way to brick hardware in my experience. Just a guess though, I don't use controllers because I'm home all the time.
  7. Happy birthday Bill! I've had the pleasure of seeing his tank and yes, he truly is brilliant. Hope you have a good one man!
  8. I do monthly WC's but have been successfully using BRS 2-part for a couple years now. I'd be happy to answer your questions if you go that route.
  9. @Flash21 That's not a bad idea but the wife is grabbing drapes today. Honestly things seemed pretty happy for the sun.
  10. I hear ya! I suppose my sentiment towards tangs is more centered around understanding that they are not acting naturally in my current 4ft 75g. Perhaps they would be more comfortable in the bigger tank!
  11. Great insight there on future fish plans. I have to confess, I am not a fan of tangs in general. I've had several and always rehomed them. Generally just too aggressive for me. My reef is as peaceful as a hippie commune, ideally. Lawnmower blennies are my goto along with lots of inverts. To each their own, I suppose.
  12. Hey that's good to hear, thank you for the input. That makes sense. I've got thriving macro completely filling up the fuge so hopefully I experience similar results. The light period is short too, 2 hours max.
  13. Thank you, Kim! We are really excited about the tank possibilities here. I suppose that's enough of an answer. I'll just block the light with thicker coverings. On this note, here's where the 650 reefer peninsula is going. Right in the middle between the windows. Vicky's computer desk and mine will go on either side, each desk in front of the window facing towards the tank. I'm going to tile the area under the tank since it's carpeted. You can put tanks on tile, right?
  14. As long as it isn't going to hurt the corals then that's no worries. Definitely hanging some drapes ASAP. Not sure about the half moon. The clams light up like crazy in it and they are all starting to twist their mantles towards the sun.
  15. Like the title asks, is it terrible to have a couple hours natural light hitting the tank? I guess I need to go to Lowe's again... Correct me if I'm wrong but that seems like way too much light. What would happen if left that way? (It won't be.)
  16. I'll let you know on time. Probably just bring some small Tupperwares or something to hold a little water and keep them separated. Don't worry about me, I've had my share of generosity out of this club and am happy to pay it forward if it helps you out!
  17. I'm out in West Salem and just moved our tanks to the new house. Point being I have a ton of busted up sps littered all over. It was mainly the easy stuff that got busted too. 4 colors of digi, couple cap colors, just a ton. Nothing huge mind you, just frags or big frags at best. It all moved yesterday so probably need to give it two or three days to recover but you can come lay claim on some after that! It was all healthy before the move so whatever you take would likely be fine. If not, there's always more!
  18. Welcome! Beautiful system. I'm sure we will be better for having you!
  19. I would have let you know but since we were getting jerked around so much I didn't want to keep rescheduling with people. At any rate it got done and that's what counts. Going to be sore tomorrow though!
  20. We ended up doing it today. There was a lot of shenanigans with our move date. @cjmdh came and helped out. Pretty smooth until we were coming in the door with the stand. Mark had lifting straps so we decided to leave the sump and gear in the stand which was fine until the bottom blew out. Anyways, it's all good. Had a fun time with another reefer and we are all moved!
  21. My nem tank needs these too. Gotta catch 'em all!
  22. I think we need an amateur and professional class for these.
  23. Sad I missed it. Thanks for taking pictures and doing your writeup Bert, I always enjoy seeing that, especially when I don't make it. Looks like it was a great event with some killer coral and all for a good cause!
