Too bad I live on the moon in relation to most of the club. I might have to take you up on that at the next meeting though!

Ugh. I really need to get some starter stomatellas from someone one of these days.

Bert indeed had a ton of very useful advice for me during my move.

Bummed to have missed this but glad some got to.interact with the octopus- very cool. Thanks to Sid for graciously hosting us yet again. Big thanks to Bert @badxgillen for repping the officers and BOD (thought Greg was going to make it).
After driving to Santa Cruz and back we just couldn't do the drive. I'm glad everyone had a good time!

Hey just wanted to say that your light schedule is working wonders in my tank! GLWS!

There are usually a coupla adjustment screws on hinges like that and in my experience, they always lose the snug over time. Grab a Philips, find the sweet spot on the close and adjust accordingly. I sincerely hope this fix is that easy.
Oh I'm familiar with eurohinges. This appears to be a failure of one of the pivotpoints on the hinge. Not looking good honestly.

I am glad you got to witness the sarcastic fringehead in all its hellbent glory! One of the lab guys that I dove for had a tattoo of one... commitment.
Also, forgot about the sardine tank, that thing is awesome, and the mola mola is one of my fav pelagics, only been in the water with one once and it was surreal.
I went looking for a hot dog fish and this thing was over a foot long and as thick as my forearm. They had it in a ~30-40g tank. What a nasty creature. I'm glad to have learned about them! Thanks for the suggestion. I also now know how to tell the difference between Sardines and Anchovies! Pretty cool stuff.

It's the hinge itself. It's the piece that bridges the door mount and the stand mount. The little 1" piece. It seems like the part that rotates closer to the stand mount has lost tension when I compare it's function to the other hinges. There seems to be extra slack in this hinge. I guess that settles that. I wonder how that managed to happen while we were gone. 😩

I came home to one of my doors hanging slack and no amount of fiddling seems to be lining this door back up. I'm not sure that it should be doing this. Any tips?

That is hilarious and awesome! I would have loved to hear that conversation.
You should have asked them what their water parameters are! 🤣
I would have but I feared the answer would be 'better than yours!' Their sps tank was pretty impressive.

Thanks guys, still having billing issues with amazon s3... Lets see what happens next month
I learned to loathe AWS billing during school. I empathize.
I always thought sea lettuce was a good thing.

Wow, you brought a lot of sps on the plane.
I’m not sure how you get your acros to look better in your booth than in most of our display tanks. That is dialed in!
Haha very aptly put...
Looks Beautiful Rudy!

Ta-daaaaa!
Vicky took a bunch too. There's still some more coming when we get back home.
We took the behind the scenes tour and it was so good. They showed us a whiteboard back by their kitchen with a Mater (Cars) saying 'I love the MBA!' It was drawn by one of the Pixar crew when they were there researching for Finding Dory and they never erased it. I totally forgot to take a picture of that though.
We also met Hank. He is the longest employed person in the facility and Pixar honored him by naming the octopus from the movie after him.
That last bad quality picture is a dying Giant Pacific Octopus that laid eggs. She just sat there, sadly caressing them. It was a breathtaking sight.
The reef area was funny. I stumped a bunch of volunteers when I asked what kind of lights they used. They had to radio in to ask and then couldn't pronounce 'metal halide'. I id'd a bunch of stuff for them. It made me feel like a reef wizard and I thought of all of you. I told them about our club and that I was one of the lesser-accomplished and younger members. They had no idea people grew coral for a hobby. It was a funny conversation.
Check it off the bucket list! We will be back for sure.

We had to eradicate a bunch of hobo spiders in our new house. I got the big red bag of powdered spider killer and sprinkled it on the perimeter of the entire property a couple times in the spring. That helped a lot but the hobo's were still in the house
The trick inside is sticky traps placed parallel along walls they travel. I put 5-10 of these traps around the garage walls because that's where they were living mainly. It took a couple months but they're all gone and haven't come back. Seriously be careful with these. I had a friend in college that I just graduated with that lost his dad to a hobo bite last year.

Haha I was thinking the shrimp is probably stoked to have all that fresh substrate to burrow in. They do seem to delight in digging the most inconvenient tunnels after all!

Get ready to be blown away. That facility is fantastic. Get the behind-the-scenes tour if available. It's the kind of place that fish geeks should go by themselves. That way, you can geek out and daydream as long as you like. (Spoken from experience!)
I'm glad to hear it, especially from you Sid! My wife and I have our three little kids with us but we also have grandma down here to take them while we go. We were hoping for the tour but we'll make sure we do now.

Oh just a hop, skip and a jump. The next meeting is there too if you need more of an excuse. I've been thinking about cruising up there anyways though if you want to go sooner. I appreciate it!
