  1. Oooooh I might have to make sure my schedule is clear for that! I'll be keeping an eye out! And yes I think you're right about likely being ready ages ago lol, I tend to take it very personal if a coral doesn't make it (as I should I suppose and obsess about what I'm doing wrong) so I've been holding off [emoji16] Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  2. Wow! I absolutely love seeing people build tanks themselves, doing the drilling of the holes etc. I was thinking about doing it myself when I was looking for an upgrade last year but was too scared to do it so ended up buying a Reef ready acrylic tank. I like the before and after! Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  3. So I've never once tried keeping Acropora since I got my first reef tank in 2014, I've kept mostly LPS and a few softies, and easier SPS like Birdsnest and Monti Caps. My tanks have been doing great and my main tank especially has been extremely stable for well over a year now so I think I'm finally ready to give Acros a try [emoji51] I'm hoping to find someone close by (Forest Grove, Hillsboro areas) that has a frag or two I can buy next weekend. Since I've never kept them I'm very open to suggestions as to which one(s) to look for! I can't believe it's taken me this long but I think I'm finally ready [emoji23] I'm pretty booked up this weekend and have a crazy work week coming up but I'm off next Saturday and Sunday so I'll be available to come pick up some new corals! I've recently picked up some great corals and anenomes from Holly (Gil&Fin), Matteo and jadams7 and I'm so happy with how my tank is looking lately I want to keep going. Thanks again by the way to those I just mentioned [emoji4] I've been clearing out a lot of my softies that had began overgrowing my tank to make room for new corals and I still have room! 4. Thanks, I'm going to pull it out and look again this morning. I haven't looked at it much for a couple days because I'm trying not to obsess about it too much, I was staring at it it felt like constantly for the first few days lol. I think I'll probably get a hole saw to scuff it up more too. The scrubber came with an extra screen that was pre-scuffed but everywhere I've read said to get it as abrasive as possible like you just said so I'll do it just to get as much out of it as I can. 5. He has babies, I saw them a while back [emoji3] he's probably had more by now, had a cute little white one in there last time. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  6. Second egg crate. Here's a couple examples, mines similar to the first one Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  7. Upscales [emoji16] Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  8. I also just followed what you did and did the Duct tape thing to help block the light along the slit where the water pours down, I did it right after taking the pictures. I may end up having to cut the screen to a smaller size too, after reading a little more I found out my screen may end up being too large Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  9. That's why I love this forum! I just took some pics of the screen, this is three days of growth, I set it up Sunday morning. Does this look pretty good in your opinion? I was surprised there was anything after only three days! But this is the first scrubber I've owned so I'm not sure. Now I have hope that this could really do wonders for this tank, I've always had high nitrates in it. I'm sure it's because I really like feeding the fish in this one [emoji849] all of my corals have always looked great though so it must not be too terrible but 30-60 ppm of nitrates is crazy high! I think this may be the answer to the nitrate problem in this tank, and I can still feed my fish like I want to [emoji3] this is the first tank I've had nitrate problems in, it really started going up after adding my Kole tang a few months back and I started feeding more, adding Nori and more variety. That fish eats and poops a lot so I think that added to the issue, before my nitrates were around ~10 in that tank, it could be other factors too though that added to the problem though. 10. I've never used anything except kalkwasser since 2014. I'm always adding frags [emoji16] I don't keep a ton of SPS though (at least at the moment, I've gotten the bug lately though) mostly LPS with a few SPS, my 50 is pretty well stocked with corals and colonies so it's keeping up for me just fine. I add it to my ATO's and everything has been extremely stable with ALK 9, calcium 450 and PH 8.3. I've never had a cyano outbreak since using it either which from what I understand is due to using the kalk, at least that's what I've read? I test weekly though, adjust as necessary. I don't claim to be a pro because I'm not but I can tell you it's worked great for me [emoji16] Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  11. Wow your tank is more impressive every time I see it! Beautiful [emoji3589] I think it's about time to start fragging Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  12. It's yours [emoji4] Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  13. I have a great little Fuge Light that I no longer need since I just bought an Algae scrubber. The fuge light is an Acke from Amazon, it's a great light for growing chaeto [emoji3] I've only used it probably a total of two or three months on two separate occasions, I tend to change my mind a lot going back and forth between chaeto and deciding I want an algae reactor or algae scrubber.... finally found the kind I wanted and bought a scrubber! Comes with a good amount of free Chaeto, if I had to guess probably a basketball sized amount? Was only a handful couple weeks or so ago. Trade for a small frag of pretty much anything or a mushroom or two. Located in Forest Grove area. There are others who can vouch for this light, that's it's a great affordable fuge light that grows chaeto just as well as the much more expensive ones! I have the Chaeto in a bucket right now and they're both ready to be picked up, I'm available this week after work usually between 3:30-7 pm or during the weekend. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  14. Oh I have phosphates, that I'm sure of. I removed all the chaeto and put it in a bucket and removed the fuge light too so I'm going to have to find a home for those since I'll have no use for them anymore. I'm glad you responded [emoji4] thank you! I truly appreciate the tips, I've been in this hobby since 2014 (saltwater anyway, have had freshwater since I was eight) and I still feel like I know so little about it. 15. Great idea [emoji106] I'll definitely try the duct tape thing. I've been battling nitrates in this tank so I'm hoping the scrubber will helpSent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  16. It's looking great [emoji106] Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  17. He's got some really great stuff! Thanks by the way for the Bubble Tip, it's beautiful and is acting like it's always been here [emoji16] now if only my Clown will see it as a potential home and leave it's Toadstool.... Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  18. How long do you leave your lights on? Do you run them opposite schedule of your tank light? This is the one I ended up buying, the LEDs are extremely bright, it came with everything except the pump. The guy was only wanting $50 for it but gave it to me for $40 so I thought it was definitely worth it! It's lit on both sides, has the top and cover and plumbing. I ran it in a bucket of citric acid and ro water for a few hours and good as new Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  19. I actually considered t-ing off my return but then I'd probably have to get a larger return pump? I could very well be wrong [emoji848] I ended up going with a Maxi jet 1200 and it actually seems great! I originally tried a mag 5 pump I had laying around and man was it massive overkill! Water was spraying everywhere [emoji58] so I figured something with less gph would do the trick and with the Maxi jet to me it looks perfect [emoji108] I really like your mention of covering the top half inch to help keep the algae from clogging the slit where the water falls from, what did you use to do that? Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  20. Found one [emoji16] Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  21. So I bought a nice used waterfall algae scrubber which I'm really liking, it came with everything, nice LED lighting on both sides except it didn't come with a pump. I've never owned an Algae scrubber so I've been looking around online to try to get an idea of what pump to use, I tried it first with a mag 5 pump I had and it was definitely overkill! I don't want to hook it up to my overflow, I'd rather use a pump. I'm thinking maybe 300-400 gph with adjustable flow? If anyone has a better idea of what I should get and better yet if you have one that would work laying around let me know Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  22. Will do thanks [emoji106] not sure when I'll be back out that direction but if I do I'll let you know thanks [emoji4] Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  23. Ooooh I might take you up on that offer lol! See you tomorrow [emoji4] Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  24. Looks like I've already found some [emoji16] thanks Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
  25. I'm looking for a fair amount of Caulerpa and other macro algaes besides chaeto, hoping to find some somewhat close by, Forest Grove, Hillsboro, Banks, Cornelius, possibly Beaverton, Tigard, McMinnville area if it's enough to make the drive worth it. Thanks in advance [emoji16] I'm getting excited watching my tanks get back to where they used to be last year. They were somewhat neglected there for a while when I had a death in the family and my tanks and some other things and areas of my life suffered because of it, but now that I see that beauty really starting to come back I'm getting more excited about getting new corals and basically starting over after doing some serious pruning of the softies that were taking over, now I have much more room for new corals!
