When I had my toadstool it was notorious for closing up for a week and even up to a month after a water change and the boom one morning it would open up and be considerably bigger. Didn't happen every water change, maybe every third or fourth. As long as it doesn't look like it's melting or totally shriveled up it's probably just getting ready to grow a bit.

I had two PP15's in a 4' 55 gallon and they would blow stuff around pretty good. I guess it all depends on how much flow you are looking for.
