That thing looks magnificent. Glad to hear the move went well.

Thanks, Kim!
Maybe I'll let a hammer in, then any thoughts on motile livestock? I want to keep the bioload small so I don't have much waste to remove (no skimmer as of now and hoping to keep a variety of stony corals).
I'm thinking just a couple snails, mostly trochus or similar, maybe a hermit or two to creep the sand and rock, but then what? goby? cleaner shrimp? sexy shrimp? clowns? firefish?
bear in mind, I'm shooting for a good 50x flow.
Also, I got the rockwork in place today with some TLF epoxy, I'll post pics soon. And if anyone can spare about 10lbs of LR (tiny pieces is great), I'd love to take it off your hands. Maybe with some sand and/or bottle of water to help spike my microbes a bit (mostly dry rock as of now).
I'd give you some LR, but you are a ways north. Maybe someone closer could help out or the LFS.
Thanks for the feedback. I had a pair if CFL lamps on the fuge chamber of a 55g sump/fuge before, but since this space is only about 5" square footprint and relatively deep, I've been thinking I want light all the way down. Basically, I'm gonna have a cylinder of plastic cross-stitch material looking the inside of that chamber and want to encourage the GHA to cover it. Then I can pull it out, scrub the GHA off and replace it. The hope is that it's a clean and natural easy to export waste nutrients. I remember reading a tutorial with a similar setup and they really liked it, so I was gonna a try.
Anyways, I think anything other than a submersible light wouldn't light the tall and skinny fuge well enough. Sound logical?

With a 5" square, it can be pretty hard. I was just throwing out ideas. You know your tank better than me.

Thanks Miles!
I've made a decision or two. I'll be buying the Jebao pp-4 to replace the koralia 700 and I'm pretty excited for it. I realize it's "just" the knockoff of the mp10, but I can't justify the cost of Ecotech, and at <$60 on Amazon, I just can't pass up the Jebao since it's barely more money than the koralia 700. If you've got a better idea for a 29g nano that's < $100, let me know soon, I'll be getting a few pounds of LR rubble to supplement my mostly-dead tank soon, once it is settled for several weeks, I'll get the pp-8 and a frag
I'll be targetting SPS and acans, maybe a hammer/torch/frogspawn, but I'm nervous of sweepers stinging the sps...thoughts?
Thinking I'll get something like this submersible light to light the 'fuge' (which is just for growing/exporting green hair algae on a crosstiching grid), have any better idea? I've got almost the whole depth of the 29g, about 5" square that I'll be growing the GHA in.
I think the Jebao's are reasonably priced for what they do and are a good choice. As for the submersible light, I have never heard of someone using them. I always see people going to Home Depot and buying these: https://www.google.com/#q=clamp+light+home+depot&safe=off&tbm=shopI imagine they both work.

Hello everyone,
I finally got around to acid washing the buckets and started the experiment.
Six salt buckets were acid washed in 3.7% solution of HCl for 24 hours and washed out. While waiting, I heated up RODI from an Air, Water & Ice three stage unit with a TDS of 13 (not going to lie). Tested the TDS with a HM Digital DM-1 Dual In-Line TDS meter. Heated the water up to 76° and checked using a temp gun, then raised the salinity to 1.026 with Instant Ocean: Reef Crystals. The salinity was checked by a ATC refractometer, which was calibrated with a standard 35ppt solution. The water was tested using a Salifert Alkalinity kit and Red Sea Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphate, Nitrate and pH kit. Here are the results for an out-of-the-bucket mix of Reef Crystals:After testing the salt mix, I transferred all the water into six buckets, three of which had heaters that were calibrated to 76°± 1°. I went and saran wrapped the buckets, but I realized who keeps their saltwater in a sealed container? So, I am likely going to open the buckets once per week to move the heater and adjust accordingly. The buckets that have no heaters are at ambient temperature to the garage, which does not fluctuate more than 15°.
I am actually excited to see what happens. Randy Holmes-Farley did a similar test on saltwater and concluded that alterations of water usually happen when organics are in the mix. He pointed out that he was unsure whether Reef Crystals had organics and if they are biologically active. I have a feeling that there is going to be a change for the heated buckets more than the ambient buckets. Now I just need to get around to testing my own aquarium.

I really enjoy seeing when a tank is well thought out. It seems that this commercial design really paves the way for all-in-one. I like it.
Clean bordering on clinical. It won't look like that in a few years, they never do!
Hopefully the price point isn't clinical.

Any administrators out there? This is obviously too much for this forum. Too many amazing colors and too many different corals. It just isn't right.

I wanted to say that I am excited to see where this tank goes. It is a good hobby with lots of good people.
As for a power-head, I personally don't have a recommendation. From what I have noticed is it really depends on your price point. They all work.

Will any of these be brought to the May meeting? I bet there will be a bunch of people who would love to grab them.

Can I grab some of the rock on the 14th? Maybe even coral if there is some left.

Here goes:
75 gallon display. 29 gallon sump.
Flow: Medium. Hydra wave controller adds alternation, plus a sea swirl
Lighting: Hydra 52's. 40% intensity.
Water Change: 5 gallon bucket twice a week.Carbon Dosing: 3mL of Vodka in the morning and night.
Phosphate: .04
Nitrate: 2 ppm
KH: 8.5
Mg: 1440
Ca 420Fed: Every other day is Red Sea Energy, the opposite is BRS Reef Chili.
Location: Near sandbed, on a rock.
Length: 7/8 inch
Height: 1/2 inch
Added some sugar sand a couple days ago and it doesn't seem to want to come out, but it will. Also, got some hair algae starting, but it seems that it is fairly hardy.

Hey everyone,
Here are some of the goodies I am willing to trade. Most of them were fragged in the last couple days. Should look better in a couple weeks.
Two heads:
Part of this one:
Three duncans with about 3-5 heads each, also that zooanthid:
Some of this birdsnest:
I am looking for sticks of all types. Small sticks, round stick, colored sticks, sticky sticks.

Triton is such a cool idea. I would love to do it one day. Kind of makes you wonder what "really" is in your aquarium.

How do you fix a leak in that big of a tank? I imagine you can't get it in and out of the house.
-
I was confused with what you were asking. Thanks for clearing it up. Now I understand what you are trying to do.
Saving water is definitely a good idea. I know RODI units waste a lot, unless caught and re-purposed. I've never heard of people using a permeate pump for their RODI unit, but it sounds like a good idea. I am going to tag along and see what people say.
-
Welcome! Let's see some pics.
-
Can I ask why you think you need a pump? I am confused.
As long as it isn't working against gravity, I thought pressure would be enough for almost any distance.

*Bump*
I wasn't going to bump this again, but I can't find a used wireless controller anywhere. Amazon, ebay, google, they just don't exist. Almost like someone out there bought them all, just so I can't have one (badxgillen). Just kidding, but really.
I have searched far and wide for a new/used controller for the AI Hydra 52's. None seem to exist. Can any of you help me find one? Most places seem out of stock. Technically, I think this is what I am looking for: AI MK II Wireless Controller or the AI Director.
EDIT:
Or a healthy alternative.

I think you also need to figure out the problem. Just grounding the tank doesn't eliminate the problem. Just turn them off one by one.

I haven't had time to post pictures of this event, but it so much fun that I just had to.
Outside Tanks:
Public area (Reefer Madness):
Behind the scenes aquarium:
Seahorse breeding:
Awesome lion fish:
Clownfish babies:
Giant Pacific Octopus (badxgillen):
I think it was rotifers, algae and brine shrimp:
Jellyfish:
Hang-on the back filter:
Fish:
Many more fish:
Caviar anyone? :
If you get a chance to go out to the Hatfield aquarium, make it happen. It will be well worth it.

I'd buy one.

If you rewire them, I think something to be aware of is the difference of voltage and amperage. There are many foreign plugs that require different amps and volts. If they are the same, go for it. Just be careful.
Another option would be to buy an all-in-one adapter. They exist and are cheap.
