  1. Looking great! You phone photos are better than most people's DSLR photos. Love seeing those large sps colonies. Nice Blue Squamosa too!
  2. My Jebao DC 6000 died on me last week. It was a little over a year old. I am planning on getting a waveline, Jebao DCT or DCS. Did you order the DCS from Fish Street?
  3. Fallow period for velvet is 6 weeks. I would recommend going a little longer, so you only have to do it once.
  4. I also treat with Prazi pro on every fish. I would advise against using any copper, unless you are treating with it at the proper level. Low levels of copper can mask symptoms and will not treat the fish. I typically try to get the fish eating well before using Prazi, then one week treatment of that or 2 weeks if I run a second Prazi treatment. I monitor the fish for any other issues and treat accordingly. I've used both hypo salinity and cupramine for ich and have had good results with both. Tank transfer method is the other option for treating ich. 30 day minimum for QT.
  5. What are the dimensions of your skimmer? Will you plan to have multiple sizes, or stick with the one size?
  6. I like the idea, but I don't think I'd be willing to compromise my view into the tank with the framework around the tank and the large vertical bar. The RoboSnail seems like a better option, at a price of only $270...
  7. Your tank is looking great. How's that bandit doing? Looks like the purple tang wound has healed. Any issues with coral nipping yet?
  8. Don't listen to Brad, he's just jealous your aquascape has more rock than his... Just kidding Brad, your tank is looking awesome! Aquascaping is one of my favorite parts of the hobby. Im surprised others dislike it so much. I think your do-over is looking awesome. Lots of unique sections with caves, shelves and overhangs. Look forward to seeing it once the water clears up and you get your lights up.
  9. You know what I'm looking for. Send me photos if you see anything good! Can't wait to see what you get.
  10. Glad you picked that guy up. They're such awesome fish! Really sorry to hear your purple tang decided to be a jerk. I know the helpless feeling of watching a prized new addition get bullied. Give it time, that bandit should hold its own once it gets settled (depending on size of your PT). I'd try to keep the purple tang distracted from the bandit as much as possible while it settles in. Maybe try taping an actual size photo of a purple tang against the glass and give it something else to bully. Keep the bandit eating well and it will recover quickly.
  11. Wait until you see his fish collection! It's insanity! I've been following that build waiting to see what he does with it, because I know it's going to be one of the most amazing tanks out there. Here's a video of some of Andrew's tanks to give you an idea of the kind of fish he has:
  12. Nice! You got a regal! Is it finding any food scraps left behind from that trigger?
  13. Never heard anyone complain about the Regal 300SSS. In fact, I've only read rave reviews on it. I've had mine running for 5 months, or so, and have no issues with it. I can't even hear it over my return pump. Why didn't you like yours?
  14. Still can't believe Brad made the comeback for the win against me. I was up on him by a lot until Larry Fitzgerald dropped 25 and then Rogers completed the comeback with almost 35 points on Monday night to beat me by 3.... Holdin' it down at the back of the pack 0-3.
  15. Yeah, it's overdue, but at least it will be a jump start to the good stuff and hopefully I can get some good tank and livestock shots up here soon. Speaking of build threads.... I know someone who's got a nice 250DD
  16. Thanks guys! I'm hoping to get the 240 up and running soon. It's been such a long process it's almost a joke for me at this point, but hopefully all the hard work will be worth it in the end. I'd also like to thank Jeff for all his help along the way.
  17. Nice post! One thing I wish they shared in the video is how long they decompress the fish at each depth. Doesn't seem like they are collecting at extreme depths though, but I'd still be curious. I've seen some of the high-end deepwater collectors using fancy hyperbaric chambers to decompress fish.
  18. I figured it's about time to make a thread for the big tank system I've been working on for the past year and a half. The focus of this system is on fish and corals will be secondary. I will try to slowly fill the tank with soft corals and whatever won't be eaten by my fish, but this system is really going to be about keeping rare and unique species of fish. I have my 75g shallow cube (http://www.pnwmas.org/topic/32513-75g-shallow-cube-build/)%C2'> my corals and that is located in the room adjacent to the main display tank of this system, so I get to enjoy the best of both worlds. Details of the system: -Marineland 300DD starphire main DT -Custom stand to match stand of 75g cube -3 IT2040 lights -2 Jebao WP60's (for now) -300DD is plumbed through the floor down to the basement In basement: -100g acrylic sump -240g Envision 1" acrlyic cube -IT2080 light -2 Xwave 6800 powerheads -Regal 300SSS skimmer -Apex Controller -Reeflo Hammerhead return pump -TMC 110W UV sterilizer plumbed into the return for both tanks -800w titanium heater -Full Reef Genesis setup with Renew, Storm and RocV to automate water changes and ATO I began this build roughly at the same time as my 75g build, and it was really difficult trying to pull off both builds at once. Now that things are getting closer to being fully operational, I am realizing how much water and work it takes to keep up with all my tanks . To catch everyone up, I fully braced my living room floor for the 300DD and doubled up all the joists under the tank. My floor wasn't perfectly level, so I meticulously shimmed every inch of the stand and even through the middle and back of it. I built 2x4 stands for the 240g and 100g sump and those tanks live together under the 300DD. The 300DD has been up and running since April and I've continued to add components to the system as time's progressed. I decided to use I am still working on buffing the 240g out and getting it plumbed into the system. This build has been a difficult endeavor, to say the least, and I would not be where I am without the help of sdietz2469. He's been a huge help for me, so thank you Shane! Here are a few renders I did of the setup while I was messing around with KeyShot at work. I created the model a while ago to plan out the build and placement of everything, and recently tweaked things to reflect some of the changes I made during the build.
  19. It's ok Brad, you've got me next week and my team can't seem to figure things out. My kicker has totaled 1 point and my flex position has totaled 2.3 points through the first two weeks.
  20. If you have rock or sand in your QT tank while doing hypo, it provides a places for the ich to attach to when it drops off the fish. It's even recommended that if you're using any type of filtration that you change out your filter media daily. The other issue is the die-off of bacteria on the rock and sand from the lowered salinity. An ATO will be very helpful to maintain proper salinity throughout the treatment. Slightly lower salinity won't do much for you. It will provide a little extra oxygen in the water, but won't do anything as far as diminishing ich.
  21. Running the tank at 1.021 won't do you any good. Hypo treatment needs to be taken down to 1.009 and should stay there about 5 weeks. You'll want to lower the salinity over at least 48 hours and follow the same procedure when raising it back up. You need to treat your fish in a separate QT tank and you don't want any live rock in that tank. If hypo is your preferred treatment method, I would do some more research on it and make sure you're fully comfortable doing the treatment. It shouldn't be attempted in your display tank. You are correct that your uv is too small for that size tank. Also remember that a uv sterilizer will only kill what flows through it and will not cure a fish with ich. It may reduce the ich present in the system over time and eventually help keep the fish ich free, but it shouldn't be viewed as a treatment method.
