  1. How much for just the extra wet side?
  2. Buy tank raised. C&C buys mostly if not all tank raised fish. ORA sells to a lot of retailers and are tank raised.
  3. Voted. Good luck. The porthole is awesome. I won one last year.
  4. Test for nitrates as well as phosphates. Shorten your light cycle some. Start a refugium and grow algae in there instead of your display.
  5. Clowns are notorious for this kind of behavior. It's the Damsel in them.
  6. Here is a video taken with an inexpensive waterproof camera from Costco. The quality isn't as good as the gopro but when this happens you use what you have in your hands. We actually saw a lot of these while there, many up on the beaches in the late afternoon but this was special to swim with one.
  7. Here are a few pics from snorkeling in Hawaii. I spend a lot of time in the water but these are the only underwater shots I have. These are stills from videos taken with a go-pro hero 3.
  8. Last month Jenn and I went to the Big Island to get married and enjoy some long overdue R&R. On friday the 13th, our wedding day, we got up in the morning and went out on a boat to find and swim with some of the local spinner dolphins. The go out to sea at night to feed and then in the morning they head back to the island to gather and rest in the coves around the island. We encountered a rather large pod, 30 or so individuals, complete with adults and some juveniles. They swam through us, under us and around us. All this time they are actually sleeping while slowly moving up the coast to meet up with other pods at Kailua bay. At one point, three individuals began to get separated from the pod. One of the dolphins simply wouldn't have this so it reached out to another and gently grabs the others fin and gives it a tug to get everyone back on track. This was a truly magical time in the water.
  9. Something like this? Here is a link to a video I shot in Jenn's 6 gal after a water change: https://flic.kr/p/oTPVHj
  10. I had a rather large matt of it growing on a rock in my anemone tank. I peeled it of and it's now in the fuge.
  11. What's your nitrate level. Clams are filter feeders and appreciate some nitrate. I know this may sound strange but clams are strange critters and help filter your water.
  12. Mine always chases the mag cleaner as well. I don't think that's the reason. But, congrats on being an almost grandpa.
  13. Right on! We are lucky to have local reps for a couple of the LED manufactures local to Oregon.
  14. Chinese grocery. Just make sure to get the non flavored variety. Its sushi nori. What they use to wrap sushi in. You can get a large package of probably 40 sheets for under $5.00.
  15. I have to agree with pledospphy here. I just got back from the Big Island of Hawaii and while in the water there I saw many beautiful tangs. From yellows and convicts, which were the most plentiful to naso's, blue rings, and sailfins. They were all very large and very active. After seeing them in their natural environment I will probably think twice about housing tangs in tanks shorter than 5'. The thing that amazed me was the absence of visible algae for them to eat, and yet they were all very fat. Good luck with the purple. Jeff, Sorry about the wife's accident. I hope all is well and there are no permanent or lingering injuries.
  16. I'm going to bow out of this. Nothing wrong with the zoa's, just too similar to ones I already have. This will give others a larger piece of the pie. Thanks though Robert for putting this together.
  17. Came home the other day to a dark tank. It seems the poser supply for my Reefstar LED fixture had failed. One phone call to Kenny at Reefstar and a new power supply was on the way. I got the New fixture two days later. Everything is great, the tank actually benefited from the two days of darkness. The cyano that had been creeping up disappeared. Not only was Kenny responsive by sending the new power supply but I also received a follow up phone call to check on things. Just when you think customer service is dead, something like this happens. Thanks Kenny.
  18. I may be interested depending on what you decide to go with. Need pics and price.
  19. Love the arc eye. Saw a few last week while snorkeling of the big island. Also pink tailed and many other triggers. Hawks are one of my favorites. I only have a flame hawk. Great personalities.
  20. Been here since Friday. Rain has been the flavor of the day but did get in dime snorkel time today. Tangs are abundant, yellows, convicts, unicorns, orange shoulders, lavender, also saw trumpet fish, many varieties of butterflies, triggers, a grouper, green sea turtles, dolphins. It's so cool to be in their world. And the tabs are HUGE!
