  1. Thank you CrisQ. I started off about 5 weeks ago curing rock with it in a 30 gallon tote. It was in a spare bedroom at the other end of the house. I then cleaned it and moved it to my new 65 gallon setup in the living room on Sunday, Right by our bedroom door. My wife just don't like the mag drive 7 like humming. Dave
  2. Purchase from Jason at OIB about a month ago slightly used. It came as pictured with a brand new never used pump. Wife says it's a bit noisy for her liking. I love this skimmer it works great. It's just I put my tank right by my bedroom door and she don't like listening to it hum. It don't bother me but would also like one that I can use with a lower water level. This one requires 9 to 11 inches. I would like to get around 6 or so. Dave
  3. A small frag of zoanthids I removed from a rock. It has an aiptasia right in the center of it I'm going to kill somehow.
  4. Well, things didn't go as planned this weekend. Broke the 25 gallon Marineland cube I was using for a refugium. Plumbing the return I couldn't find flexible enough hose or a true Y connector to feed the duel returns. oh, also my hinged light stand didn't pan out. But other then all those problems I made due for now. Don't laugh about the two rio 50 power heads there only temporary. I got them new in the box's at a second hand store for $4. I figured they won't hurt.
  5. I got it from OIB $85 for a 200 gallon bag. He had Kent for a lot cheaper but recommended Red Sea if I was going to keep coral down the road. I suppose I could've started off with Kent and switched later but figured I better just stick with one from the start. I can't provide any specs. But it did mix clean and not much residue on the bottom of the container. And it's clear. When I was getting water from Woody the mix water seem to always have a yellow tint to it.
  6. Alll good information thanks everyone. I ended up with Red Sea Coral Pro. Why? I don't know. It was kinda expensive.
  7. Still haven't installed a Second set of shims yet. But I did cut some plywood and installed it under where the cube refugium is going to be placed. It needed to be an inch higher so it will drain into the sump better. Still needs paint. Also started on the plumbing. Have not quite figured out what I'm doing yet so most of its PVC threaded so I can change it if necessary. Hopefully I collect up the rest of the things I need and it will all be together by Sunday.
  8. I did a search but nothing came up for me? Well anything after 2007 anyway. Also I don't want to start any what salt mix is better wars. What do you use and why? Where do you find it for a fare price? I think I would prefer it in a bucket for storage purposes unless by the box would be a better deal. Back in the day I use to just buy my water already premixed with Crystal Sea from woody. I don't believe I ever had an issue with it either. But now that I'm starting over and the prices of RO/DI units have come down in price, I decided to purchase one of my own. I do plan on getting coral at some point so the salt would need to be appropriate for them. Back from the dead Dave.
  9. How many is a lot? I bought a pack of 8 and placed them every 6" or so. Think I should get another pack?
  10. I do have an over weight basset hound but I don't think he can offset half of a house. So, I decided to do a bit more measuring. Just to find out both sides of my fine poor white trash housing complex is leaning to the center like an old worn out over worked king mattress. This may also explain the cracks in the ceiling? Haha! In all reality I never bought this place for the actual house it just came with the property. My wife and I are just making due with what we have until we retire. At that point we plan to move it out and have a real home built or just sell it and move into a motorhome.
  11. So I have already ran into a problem. I live in a double wide manufactured home. (I know poor white trash) and come to find out the house has got the gangsta lean in the center where I chose to place the aquarium. So now I do t quite know what I should do. Crawl under the house and start screwing up the jacks and hammering in the shims or just shim the stand? It's only 1/4" but it will bother me not having a rim to hide the water line.
  12. Finally got it after 9 weeks of waiting!! Right from the start I'm going to tell anyone that wants to order a DSA tank Don't!!! Unless your in no hurry and don't want what you ordered. I ordered this tank from one of the best retail shops in town and he had nothing but problems with them. I do not blame the retail shop one bit he did his best and made good by throwing in some extras for free. Also not making me pay for what was left of the bill that I owed him. So on with the build! Plans main display as shown with a Marineland frameless 25 gallon cube as a display refugium. Above the refugium I will install a matching 1/4 door to block the light from escaping. I am also going to trim the door opening to make it look better. Stay tuned.
  13. Excuse my ignorance, I've been out of the hobby for some time. Where do all the funky names come from?
  14. Now your just rubbing it in.
  15. Never fails I just bought a new one.
  16. Update, I have been using this light over a rubber maid tote for about a week. I got a great deal from Noobtosalt on about 80lbs of live rock some sand and a few soft corals stuck to them. I fugued I better give them some light while I wait on my tank to arrive. And boy does it light! My last tank back in the day had a single XM 250w 20k and this led has all the power and maybe more. I have it mounted about 3' above the tote and everything seams to like the light. Within just a few hours of placing them and firing up the light they were already puffed up and looking great. Although to me it is a bit tricky to program. So for now I just set the correct time and set it on automatic mode. I like the way it seamlessly ramps up and down on its own and I don't have to tinker with plug in timers. the color from above looking down is great looks close to my old MH from what I remeber. At some point I'm going to have to figure out how to program it. The middle of the factory setting it ramps all white and blue to 100% for a few hours. Which right now isn't much of a problem mounted 3' above the tub. But when it's mounted over the aquarium that I'm getting it will only be 9 to 11" I figure to keep the light soak of the walls. Imo it's a great light so far. Some things that I would like to see for improvements. 1. A bit easier to program. 2. the display back light would turn off after a few minutes of not being touched. 3. The eyelets for hanging the light would be optional. (I had to remove them and crimp nut certs in there place) so I had a place to mount my custom frame work. If there were nut certs from the factory then screw in eyelets would be great. I hope this doesn't void my warranty? But this had to be done. I can't stand pendent lights hanging then a randome power cord just going wherever. Dave
  17. Thanks again. Everything doing great in my make shift tank. I should have asked if you had more stuff to sell while I was there. I still have a few things on my list.
  18. Thanks for the great deal sorry we couldn't meet.
  19. Must be a different Dave I have no need for a 300 gallon. But could use this as a sump.
  20. I have seen Jesse's 8 gallon in person. Great looking tank.
  21. Some samples of my work done in my shop at home.
  22. I can do it if you supply the steel. I work for a fab shop and also have everything needed to perform this task at home in my own shop. Dave
