  1. Carbon dosing and gfo are the best way. Ats are pretty weak at removing much of anything and the sam can be said for a refugium with a little ball chaeto. Most of the refugiums you see hobbyist use are small Little sections in there sump with a small Bundle of chaeto, in order for a fuge to really be effective if needs to be a whole lot bigger then what most people use. If you really want a clean system you need a good skimmer and some form of carbon dosing along gfo and water changes. Don't get me wrong, you can have a successful Sps tank with out carbon dosing but most of the Time you will be battling po4 and nitrates often.
  2. Those are some nice reads. It good to have people always questioning the normal belief.
  3. Have you checked your mag? If your mag is low then your alk will never be sable.
  4. I would definitely do a floating canopy if possible, that would be the cleanest approach.
  5. That sucks bro. It seemed like you were trying really hard this time around. If it was my tank I would be looking for some toxic chem that maybe got into the tank. I dont think an alk swing would crash your whole system unless it was pretty harsh. I would do some large water changes, run some new crabon and sit back an see what makes it through this mess.
  6. Have you thought about a floating canopy? What reflectors were you thinking about?
  7. Both skimmers are made by royal exclusiv in the same factory. The alpha has the exact same pump that the bubble King 180 has. You gotta see this skimmer in person, the acrylic feels like no other. Once you see the skimmer in person you'll understand the quality. I had an sro 2000 before this and you can see a huge difference.
  8. After going back and fourth on skimmers I narrowed it down to the bubble king 180 and the royal exclusive alpha 170. I ended up getting the royal exclusive alpha and boy this skimmer is a work of art. The build quailty of this skimmer is simply amazing and its so heavy. After looking online and guessing how big it was gonna be, this defiantly surprised me with the size of this skimmer. link http://www.saltysupply.com/Royal-Exclusiv-Alpha-170-Cone-Skimmer-p/VX-PS-A170.htm?gclid=CKq314f1tbICFWdxQgodxHcAJQ video from brs]

  10. You can put the clam on the sand bed if you want. Depending on what t5 fixture you have, there shouldn't be a problem with clams on the sand.
  11. It's about time you post this beautiful tank on pnwmas. I saw your thread in reef central.
