  1. I was only referring to the co2 flow.
  2. So your effluent rate is 10 drops per min? Your co2 flow is 10 bubbles per min? I would suggest not to do any more large water changes and allow your alk levels to fall on there own. If your alk starts to spike again just turn off the reactor and wait for it to fall. You may be stressing your tank more with such large frequent water changes.
  3. The problem of a DSB is once the anaerobic bacteria are released they instantly die off and pollute the tank with toxins. Release of the anaerobic happens when stirred up, or they reach an age or degree of becoming stagnated (the old tank syndrome). It’s not a nutrient release that creates the instant tank death although it can contribute to the ill effects of old tank syndrome as can any stagnated bacteria havens like the old wet/dry’s. When your “in tank” DSB is stagnated you essentially have to replace (or somehow clean) it, or, suffer through the ongoing consequences. Alternates to using a DSB: 1) Remote DSB so it can be replaced or cleaned without releasing toxins to the tank 2) Provide more, and/or more dense live rock to harbor the anaerobic bacteria. 3) Carbon dose, or now the use of Bio pellets to supplement the aerobic bacteria to increase population sizes to be able to consume the nitrates along with the supplemental carbon source (to me this is like bacteria on steroids) 4) Nitrate reactors This is from DR.
  4. DSB are becoming less and less popular as people are finding they can contribute to long term tank crashes and high nutrient issues. If you are keeping a strictly Sps reef I wouldn't recommend a DSB.
  5. How much you pick up that Aussie doughnut for?
  6. Those dang bubble blaster pumps are amazing. Great job on making the skimmer come together.

Most definitly not a red planet. Could be an acropora kimbeensis. Was it a maricultured bottle brush he fragged?
  10. When designing your rockscape what are you looking to accomplish? A wall of stacked rocks? Seperate islands? Cool looking overhangs? When we first got into the hobby we all thought to pile rocks forming a wall of corals was the way to go. Things have changed a lot since then an we now understand how water flows through our rock work and removes settled detritus. One of the major flaws people do is leave dead areas in the reef which lead to higher po4 and no3. Instead of leaving an open rock work they add different powereads to combat dead flow areas. When designing your next aquascapes think about how things occur in nature. Leave room between the back wall. Don't stack rocks, instead create structures and islands. There are no rock walls in nature... Clean open scape is beneficial to the tank not just for visual.
  11. I was referring to the dkh test.
  12. If you need your ph probe to be accurate at ph of 4-6 the you need solutions 4 and 7.
  13. When testing PH levels your PH probe will only be accurate with a certain range. If you calibrated using higher solution then it won't be so accurate at lower PH levels.
  14. Lol The beavers... People still care about the beavers?
  15. (scratch)I wonder why he doesn't offer local pick up...
  16. Matt your gonna love that pump. I have a water blaster 5000 as my return pump and it is dead silent. I also have used 3 different bubble blasters and they are amazing pumps.
  17. Thats not a custom job. Its a buuble king. Its actually a very common skimmer with large systems.
