  1. I will make sure to cut another piece of the OME, any other Zoas for trade?
  2. I will let the entry slide on this first post for Jeremy and Brian. I originally was saying that the 1st would be the deadline but changed it to the 20th after the meeting... Get that post up Clark!
  3. Holy Smokes! you all feel the same way about that last gathering as I do? That meeting was Amazing! It was probably the biggest and bestest shindig I have ever seen at Jeff's shop, wall to wall people, Boomin music, great corals, and really good food. Jeff and the PNWMAS Club really came through for this one folks. I am glad I did not miss out on this. Before even entering the building there were two tables of various side dishes and condiments provided along with a number of dishes brought by some of the members attending. There were also plenty of "Refreshments" on hand...I swear I saw a keg around there somewhere, but no jello shots like the party bus. We were all fortunate to have Chef Scott as our on hand grill man, working not one but two at a time! Thank you so much for coming in and manning those grills, you did it like a champ, and great food as always. Spectra is a man of many talents, so lets give him a mental applause for a moment. And as usual the store was looking good...And Packed. Packed with customers AND Corals! This was no joke! Whatever you needed they about had it, Acroporas CHECK, Zoanthids CHECK, Bomb Mushrooms CHECK! I think this gentleman and I had the same feeling, this is so feaking cool I have no idea where to begin. A cooler in hand is a good place to start though, I like that kind of thinking. As many of you know there were a few group buys for this meeting in particular and I think it all worked out rather well. Here we have PDXmonkey on the left scoping out a nice anemone to take home, which was hard because they were all very nice. Gill&Fin top middle was doing the wet work of getting those anemones bagged and handed out. And far right is Emerald being of assist in getting things in order, there were ALOT of participants on this one. Gumby on the left going in for a frag of that delicious looking CNC Acropora that is going up on another Grow Out contest.I believe that contest is being put together by the man to the right of Jim, ReefNJunkie. Eye on the prize, bragging rights and a very nice Acro. And then there was the happy recipients of the CNC Acans and the Zoanthid Grow Out contest frags. Fishoutofwater Let the games begin!!! So Many people and so little time, at every tank in the store was a friendly conversation going on about the salt water hobby. Optimus Prime, left, looking into what Stylaster, Right, is pointing at. A killer Acro no doubt, he has an eye for that reef candy and there is plenty of that here at CNC. The owner of Cuttlfish and Corals sees to it that there is no shortage of ocean goodness in stock, and speak of the devil. Here he is, the man himself. Thank You Jeff, for opening your store to us, helping out on the raffles, and for just being an all round cool guy. You and your crew did a bang up job, it was great and everything went like clock work, tell your staff that we appreciate them as well. Jorge right here working non stop while the meeting was rockin, he didn't skip a beat. Jack was also being put to the test with all the foot traffic in the shop but he was bagging livestock like it weren't no thing. At some points it was pretty intense but he kept his cool...Even when the sumps kept running low from all the bags of water taken out of it. Just watching him made me want to grab some coral of my own to take back home. Anyone need a frag!? Why yes Miles, Yes I do. MilesMiles here leading the way to a nice looking batch. Hope the move went alright my man, feel free to hit me up when things settle down and you are wanting a couple frags again. Paratore here, getting a complete photo bomb by Lewisfisherman. A couple of real Zoa nuts, I need to swing by both your places at some point to check out the systems and get a trade on. Kai here plotting the next course of action. Don't worry buddy, the crowds are thick but there tanks are full, plenty for all. One of my main homies from the West Side! HigherThinking came over and brought me a beautiful favia, just because he is a nice guy. I will return the favor Andrew, you can bet on that my friend. I usually see David on the other side of the table, with me buying coral frags, nice seeing you able to enjoy yourself man. ZoroReef, sounds like your new system is coming along just fine, and it sounds like you are being very selective on what is going in to the new tank. Just the most exquisite pieces yeah, the man knows what he wants. Trailerman getting his raffle on, he always seems to have a smile on his face, raffle or not, winning or not. And yet Another Sasquatch sighting, no doubt the party at Jeff's brought him out of hiding once again. And why are you not in the Zoa grow out!? Kasah Left, and Walt right, didn't get to chat with these gentlemen this time around but I do believe I will be competing in the Zoa GO against Kassah. Watch out man, these polyps are just getting ready to slip the jab. Rudy also came by and said whats up, The Golden Basket hanging in Cuttlefish and Corals, very cool. Rudy is opening up his place next month for the May meeting so be on the look out for more details on that. Danlu on the right having a good conversation with Gumby to the left. Looking forward to seeing some of the new advancements being made on the lighting frontier, keep us posted would you Daniel. And Jim, once I get my act together I will get you another little package going on of frags. Sharklover just chillin, once again we didn't get to talk much, but be sure there will be a next time. Lexinverts and Jeff having another in depth conversation. That Redsea reboot should be about past all its cycling stages and what not, I can get that slimer back to you when your ready. Well Jim here has been all over the place hasn't he? To the far left is KKnight our TFT coordinator. In the background you can kind of see R-3 and Paratore having a good old time...And obviously the man on the far right holding the fish food is Gumby. Look here, as cool as a cucumber it is our very own Albertareef! Always wiling to lend a helping hand, a stand up guy, and now I believe he is about to get those raffles going on. Willapa taking away the Molokos Certificate, get that panini while you snag a frag man. A win win in Portland. Exodus got the Avast certificate he wanted, although I am not too sure you really need anything else for your system. It is pretty solid right now as is. Kingifhser got hooked up with the Coral magazine subsciption, YES! SRRoberts on the left in disbelief of Spectra, middle left, winning double time on the CNC gift certificates. Yeah Buddy! SAY WHAT!!! Paratore in for the Win! Radion in the Bag! Congratulations man, it is a sweet prize for sure, put it to good use yeah. Another thing that was cool was there was a number of families that attended, it is always nice to see a reefer educating his children in the hobby and the club interactions we partake in. Keeping a reef together takes alot of knowledge so get em started early. Here are some nice looking families in the hobby. Ron coming in and just dominating the rock flower anemone buy...The little tyke just couldn't take it anymore and went down for a nap. But I bet once those anemones are all opened up in the same spot they just POP and this kid will dig the in tank fireworks. Here Jeremyevens was equipped with the front baby harness, so this kid could get the best view of the frag tanks. Very clever. DJ came over from West Linn, always nice chatting with you man, and good to see the fam. We all got to see Robyna and BlackIce with their new baby. Just look at this kid. And isn't this shirt just too much? Love It!!! Grow that one out for sure. There were plenty of familiar and unfamiliar faces at the meeting and I love that, just the right mix were people all feel welcome and just start opening up to one another. Here, Corals make everyone happy, its like a reefer ice breaker, just look at the smiles here...Genuine good times. And yet another cheerful hobbyist, Tesch with the contagious grin, the vibe in this room is so amazing. All the folks here are on the same wave length. Kevin just happy to be here it seems, and who wouldn't be in this kind of reefer party. It was about as good as anyone could hope for really. I have some more pictures that I can post up but I would also like to see some of the other pictures different people got of that day, you can only have so many vantage point by yourself yeah. I want to say a BIG Thank You to all those involved, you know who you are Holy, Albertareeff, FlahyFins,...Especially Emerald for getting this all together and to Jeff for puling a lot of strings for us. The club appreciates it. I had a great time and from what I can tell so dd everyone else, this was a Grand event. Love you all, Reef On my PNWMAS People! Be seeing you on the forum yeah....And at our next meet. Whoop Whoop!!!
  4. I might be able to help you out if you make it my way again.
  5. Yes, Rudy and the Golden Basket are a great resource for any reefer,I know I am saving a few dollars to spend while I am up there thats for sure. And just in case some one wants to get their coral trades on feel free to do so here, I know this community has plenty to go around, lots of overgrown corals in this club. http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/topic/43072-may-meeting-frag-swap/
  6. As requested, a thread starter for a Frag Swap at our May 2018 Meeting at Golden Basket I used my own previous template, so if it looks familiar...It is. Being a meet and greet type of gathering it seems like it would be a good time to get the old coral trades going on. If you would like, you can do your trading on the fly by just bringing by a few pieces and hoping that some one will have a desirable coral you want...Or better yet, you can post up what you have to trade and work out a preemptive exchange here on the forums, that method always works best for me. You can feel free to use this thread to post your trade-ables in or start a thread of your own. But First, let me get you some of Bert's basis tips for success here. 1.) make an attempt to have a fragment of reasonable size and health and try and get things cut and ready a few days to a week ahead of time to have the wounds healed up for the exchange. And double/triple check for pest invertebrates or algaes before sending your corals out, we try to keep invasives to a minimum here...And once you get your frags home, just in case, always acclimate the specimens then dip the corals before you put them into your personal aquarium. QT Aquariums are best but good old Revive, Coral RX, Melafix, Iodine, or Bayer will do much better at prevention than nothing. 2.) Try to package your corals appropriately. This can mean not putting a spiny coral like birds nest into a thin dollar store bag or not utilizing insulation on an extended cold or warm trip. Try a small cooler or Styrofoam. If you can't find either of these and the destination is a long distance, keep the vehicle air conditioned or heated appropriately. As far as packaging goes you can double bag and use thicker mil plastics, or something else like a Tupperware or specimen container. I have even used washed out yogurt or cottage cheese containers that stack well inside the coolers. Just use something that will work, nothing like losing a nice and colorful animal because the bag got too cold and leaked all the water out on the way home. 3.)Do your best to be courteous and fair to one another by not take advantage of each others ignorance or generosity. These are people of all levels in the hobby so give them the benefit of your knowledge and experience instead of the cold shoulder. And speaking of generosity, that giving nature has always been smiled upon here at PNWMAS and pay it forward tends comes back around these parts. Well, the meeting is closing in fast, less than two weeks yeah. So Let's see em folks, Whatcha Got!? Corals that is! Personally I have a ton of things I can cut if someone wants to ask for a general type of coral. For now here is a picture of some sweet zoas I have to cut before they attach to something they shouldn't. And I will add some things here once I can go and grab some pictures that don't suck.
  7. So looks like no post entry for The Clark, PDXmonkeyboy, and Reefnjunkie, other than that I think everyone made deadline. Good Job people, I now hope everyone's polyps open up and start growing so we can get some competition gong on.
  8. Final day folks, you have until midnight tonight to post up your tank specs along with top down and side pictures to show the true beginning polyp counts, re read the beginning post if your unsure about something.
  9. Well, its time for my last minute entry and unfortunately my polyps are not looking that great as of now, I am almost tempted to run out to Jeff's tomorrow and see if I can get in a new entry at the last minute. Just kidding, I will roll my dice like everyone else. Here are the specs and pics before they closed up some... 40 gallon breeder plumbed into another 40 gallon breeder making about a 78 gallon system since I keep the water level low for some reason. The tank containing the zoa is lit by an Aqua Beauty LED fixture set at %100 blues and %50 whites. Flow is at about 4500GPH total but the frag is not in any direct flow. The return at 500, a 1,000 from a Koralia, and another 3000 from an off brand no name circ pump. Frozen brine or mysys shrimp for the fish and once a week broadcast feedings of a coral food such as reef chili or coral gumbo. Activated Carbon and a moded Coralife skimmer are the only filtration in place. Dosing for calcium, Alkalinity, Magnesium, and Vodka. The zoa is on a frag rack mid level in the tank, I would say about 10 inches deep. I started with 5 polyps that were about to open up, I now have 5 polyps that look like they want to melt...But I aint throwing in the towel, I have seen some pretty amazing come backs. The zoas next to them are looking just fine so I will give it some tender love and care.
  10. Well folks, the deadline is in a few days here, I know I need to get my camera battery charged and take those pics too. And don't forget Jeff may have some replacements for certain mishaps that may have taken place. I find it odd that a few did not open, I made sure to dip mine and then it looked happy the next day. Like Kim said it can take a few days to weeks to get some zoas to bounce back, so don't give up the fight. Oh, and one more thing, as long as there are no objections we have added a last minute contestant to the game, The DSBlack, I feel the more the merrier... So I sure hope Kim and Jtarmitage can get to Cuttlefish And Corals soon and get back in on this.
  11. Yeah, count me in for some of the off colored ones for sure, and keep me in the loop for some other shapes as well.
  12. You can do some changes to the frag plug and mounting but only before your first entry post, since the frag itself came detached I see no problem with it being remounted on another similar plug. And even if you are not a zoa fan these contests are a HOOT! Good prizes, bragging rights, and poking fun at our fellow members is all worth getting in on.
  13. Well Contestants this is the official thread to post your Cuttlefish And Corals Zoa Grow Out entries! If you post your entry in another thread it will not count. Contest begins April 20th!You have a week before and a week after to post up your picture. This competition will run 4 months! Ground Rules: The goal of this competition is to be both educational and fun. I am hopeful the winners will be able to share their "secrets" and truly see how different lighting, supplements, dosing, and tank parameters can make a difference in growth. Rules and Guidelines for The CNC Zoa Grow Out Competition. 1.Your first post must include a quick write up of your system in thiis competition thread. Including tank size, flow, lighting, placement of the frag, frag measurement, equipment (ie calcium reactor, dosing, etc), feeding regiment, etc. 2. You will be required to post photo updates. The contest will start April 20th. You will be required to post a photo update once a month. I will remind you of this when the time is soon to post. I know life gets busy and people go out of town so you have a 2 week window to post. You will have 7 days before the 20th and 7 days after to post your update. If you do not post within the allotted time frame you will be disqualified. 3. Please no cheating. This competition is meant to be fun and for bragging rights. Cheaters will be disqualified and banned from any future competitions. 4. The frags must remain on the original plug. You may modify the plug if needed example cutting off the stem for placement. You may place the frag anywhere you want in your tank and you may move it to a different spot during the competition but it is frowned upon and you cannot move it to a new tank as the point is to see how the frag does over time in different systems. 5. Initial photos of frags need to have a top down as well as side shot so we can all see the frag and what you are starting with. No hiding zoa polyps in your photos. Not following the rules will cause you to be disqualified, I know that sounds harsh but it is out of fairness to the rest of the group. Remember a lot can happen in 4 months. During the last growout many were DQ'd due to not posting. It's really simple. JUST DO IT. Length of competition: The competition will run for 4 months. This will give us enough time for the frag to grow. A lot can happen in 4 months and a lot of people could drop out, so if you are persistent, you have a chance to win the grand prize. This will give EVERYONE the same advantage\disadvantage with acclimation and so on. Pictures will be required frequently for updates. Final post will be July 20th 2015 for the winner. Judging a winner: Should be pretty straight forward this grow out. The most polyps at the end wins. But the Grand Prize is... Not going to spoil it yet, you have to play our little game here. Our Standing List of Fine PNWMAS Contestants are... 1. Sharklover 2. Paratore 3. Kasasah 4. Lewisriverfisherman 5. Spectra 6. Reefnjunkie 7. Jtarmitage 8. Badxgillen 9. Optimusprime 10. MJs reef 11. Sroberts 12.Flash21 13. Emerald525 14.Jeremevans 15.Kristen Herr 16.TheClark 17. Kev 311 18. JMurray 19. Pdxmonkeyboy 20. Gil & Fin 21. TheDSBlack So lets see who is who among the competition, Who thinks they have a chance against some of PNWMAS finest coral growers? Post em up and lets get this party started. Featured here is the mother colony, not my grow out frag... Although mine might look like that in 4 months, I got the JUICE!!!
  14. Yeah, this is going to be pretty amazing, as are all the people involved. Lets raise the roof on this one, see you all shortly, Hopefully...its a long drive from the south so see you as soon as traffic permits.
  15. I am pretty excited too, whoop whoop!!! It's Party Time! CNC Party Time!
  16. I was also hoping to add on some snails for the order, gonna get the tally paid here shortly, is it possible to grab 20? If I missed the official deadline I completely understand. And thanks a bunch or doing so much leg work here Emerald.
  17. These look an awful lot like Raptors Rainbows Zoanthids that are pretty prevailant, but just in case they turn out to be something different I will snag a frag, then can put them side by side.
  18. The March meeting at Holly's was - a - BLAST!!! Frag Swaps, Coral Sales, and Reef Talk! Good Company, Fine Food, and Great Raffles! I was a great day for sure! The people who have seen Holly's setups know that there is plenty to admire and look at, she does a fantastic job at keeping things nice and proper, but for those who did not make it to the meet or have never been over, here are a few shots of part of her systems. This display is crisp and clean, full of beautiful colors and motion. The Hammer forest and Fungia patch are pretty impressive. And I would say these frag racks are stocked and loaded, there is much to be had here but I know how things go fast so save me one for later yeah. The club was generous enough to provide sandwiches, chips, and drinks to All who attended. It's really nice to just have all the refreshments and finger foods available, cause when I look at coral, I can get pretty hungry, and there as alot of coral. Thank you Albertareef and Gil&Fin for making that all happen, I know there is always some foot work involved in making accommodations for the club. When I got to Holly's I was a little early for presentation setup, but Emerald and Albertareef were already there getting the raffles ready to go. What A Team. These two are very organized and on top of their game, like pros. Get your name tag and raffle ON here!.. And speaking of raffles. LewisFisherman knows whats up! Even wearing the proper attire for the raffle at hand. We had some very nice prizes here. PIA git certificates, Sea Horse Exchange Gift certificate, TPA $50 certificate,Rod's Food pack, an Echotech MP 40, and a BRS dosing system with chemicals. Hot Dam! OptimusPrime coming in and getting those tickets in, MP40 my friend, or the certificates? Love the shirt by the way, I have some VW Zoas, good guy... Prime and Vance. The room for the presentation was great, we filled it with chairs on the sides and there was actually a raised area overlooking the room that I am standing in taking this picture. Lexinverts helped me with some pointers on my presentation and got the system connected and running on the display. Thank you very much man, I would not say I am a computer savvy individual and you just run through it... Meanwhile, downstairs where the tanks are located... So many faces I had not seen upstairs yet, the downstairs was Hoppin! I even think I see DarkAngel and Cuttlefishandcorals in back there. Kai, how you doing guy? Whatcha all Lookin at there Tesch!? Oh, that's right, the $10 coral rack is Loaded! Might want to take a step back and a deep breath...and get the cooler, there is some nice stuff in there. Lotsa of familiar faces and a few new ones too. Stylaster and Carissa came down from Washington to the meeting, happy you two could make it, good company here. I have a frag rack I am going to setup just for you Roy, get a couple chalices healed up for you, always nice to be in good with the man who runs Pacific Corals. And speaking of the Man, Jeff from Cuttlefish And Corals was in the House! Awesome guy with and awesome shop. I hear we will all be seeing you soon my friend, so maybe I can catch up with you then, I only got a few sentences in with you before I got caught up in something else again. Looking forward to seeing what you have in stock, always a treat. And in the same room I got to meet Kevin and his family. It was great talking with you, sounds like you have a good sized system coming along. If you are not too far off of the path one day I can come by and pay you and your tank a visit. Always like seeing other systems. FlashyFins in the bright and vivid colors we find some of our favorite exotic wrasses in. A member of our BOD who does her part in the behind the scenes work here at the club. Lexinverts left and Danlu right. Lex is our Vendor Relations Officer here at PNWMAS and an avid reefer. Danlu is a sponsor of the clubs with his Reefi light and is coming up with a few new product lines here in the near future. Keep us posted Daniel. HigherThinking sporting the black and orange, yeah yeah. Looking forward to a much needed hang out session, I bet the house and tank are looking good. Thanks for the frag too man, You know I will return the favor yeah. Here we have PDXMonkey left, one of the DIY guys that's good at what he does. And then another generous builder,Spectra on the right. Scott is also good in his trade, currently spending some of his free time making a light rack for a Tanks For Teachers tank, what a guy. And yet another cool shirt, Old School man. Exodus has been putting together a top notch system and from what I have seen the results are already showing. Looking forward to coming by and seeing the tank all maturing and growing. Center in this picture putting smiles on peoples faces, is Gumby. I wanted to chat with you, Roy, and Cherany about the upcoming fragfest but I found myself bouncing all over at this meeting. There will be a nest time though, be sure, and I still need to come by and see your display one day. Here is Ron and the wee one, getting another generation interested early is never a bad idea. Maybe I can make it a "Tank Tour" in Albany when I come by and chat with Nick and Brian here soon, get to come say hello. Zoorreeef, left, chatting it up with Lexinverts. Super happy to hear you are back in the game man, can't stay away too long right!? I know it was super weird that I didn't show up with coral to trade this meet but be sure I will have some next time man, so Save me an eclectic shroom yeah. Looks like he knew I had my camera out, Jack the Reefer here.I almost wanted to roll up on the pico contest, but I am out of counter space of my own at home...Maybe I can convince the misses to start one up. Anyhow, it was nice seeing you, it had been a while. Flash and family here. Everyone was so nice and well mannered... And thanks a bunch for helping with some of the presentation aftermath/breakdown, every hand is appreciated, were glad you're part of the club Whoa, Whats That President!? Presentation time and then Raffles!? They are on it! Our Team is Amazing! Getting all this in order is no easy task, Emerald here just KILLs it! Everyone getting ready for that sweet raffle, PetVet, right, has tickets in hand like a pro. I try and remember my beginning and end numbers but it never works and I have to look anyways. Eventually the doser and the pico went into the lucky hands of... NewReefer!!! Yeah BUDDY! What a score! You thinking about getting in on that Pico Competition? It was nice meeting you, we hope to see you at future meets yeah. Had to include one of the many laughing pics I captured. Youcallmenny center right and Lewisfisherman far right just having fun and Albertareef front trying not to laugh while working. Love IT! Just the act of the raffle causes explosive Cheer! And Finally, the suspense of the final draw is thick, I want an MP40 but so does everyone else. Gill&Fin was hoping to be holding the winning ticket but... OOOOHHHH!!!! UUUUNNGH!!! MP40 for Paratore! Congratulations Man, I know you got a spot for that beast. Very Cool! That thing will put some wind in your sail that's for sure. Traler man left, and Kai were close in the raffle, but no cigar. Me either, but it was fun yeah. Now Obviously I wasn't able to take a picture of my own presentation but I plan on revising it and making it available for everyone. This is a picture of everyone starting to gather, after this I had to put my camera down but imagine there were other folks taking pictures so I am hoping they share some here at some point. Thank you to those who attended the presentation I did, hopefully it wasn't all old news to you and the end impact of everyone doing their part in prevention went home with you. Thank You for having me out, it was fun. Now, Kinda off topic but... And earlier I mentioned the upcoming Pico Contest so I felt it was relevant to post this little pico I saw at Holly's house.... Isn't it "Cute'? I actually like the protruded rock face, it reminds me of that Iwagumi style. And another couple of cool off topic shots I caught. Look at Daniels son working those crawling and climbing muscles, welcome to the club buddy...Where's your name tag little man? Not sure if this was when Cody won the MP40 or when Newreefer won the pico tank...Or if it was just kids being kids. Darcy left sees something going on to so I guess I just missed it myself. If anyone else out there was taking photos and has some good ones, I encourage you to share them here on this thread or in another. I can't be everywhere all the time so I know I missed out on tons of stuff. Please and Thank You in advance. And now my usual final message of THANK YOU!!! Thank you so much for opening your home o the club Holly, you are an amazing host and your layout fit the meets needs so well, it was truly wonderful. Thank You to the Officers and Board Of Directors who put all those unpaid hours into behind the scenes work making the events happen. And Thank You to the club members, whom without there would be no group we love and call PNWMAS. You All Rock, Reef On!!!
  19. You probably don't want to miss this one, it's going to be Good! See everyone there soon.
  20. Not sure where you can source either of these, they used to come in on transshippments but it has been a while since I have seen either.
  21. We could just turn this thread into a trade thread since Ryan already got it going...If that is alright with you R-3?
