  1. I don't have one but i have been considering a Tiger cucumber for my sand bed. I had a diamond goby in the past and he was amazing!!!! The sand was always white but then he jumped. :( The sand dwelling snails are ok but they come out at night and always knock stuff on my sand bed around.
  2. IME if you have too many herbivores they will die off. I would get ten turbos and always end up with three and no algae, I would get more and always have the "balance" restored. With hermits it all depends on how much you feed; personally I hate having hermits crawling all over my coral so I always go with as few as possible to still get the job done. Just my opinion
  3. Tiger Pistol shrimp are the most active but that can be a double edged sword IE most viewable/most destructive. High fin banded gobys actually swim above the burrow, very cool. I would say candy cane high fin banded pair would be best.
  4. Yikes!!! It's been a month (almost). Somebody pay the man; you know who you are... Hoping this all works out.

    Hello

Dosn't sound like ick to me either, did you say you vacuumed the sand bed? It's ok to suck up particles from the surface but IMO you should never use a gravel vac like one would with a freshwater setup. Just my 2cents
  6. Wow!!!! Looks like a pocket star monti in acro version. You da man Brad. Maybe you should name it reef junkies brown bomber People would be so confused by the name. (laugh)
  7. LOL. Just seeing Mike's tank is worth the trip.
  8. LOL. The fact that you are in Salem really drive home the point LOL.
  9. I am so happy for this fish!!!!
  10. I will deliver I have to get the salinity back up first. Apparently you can lower it all at once but you have to raise it slowly. It should take me 6 days to get it to normal, that's if I remember to raise it everyday. I will shoot you a PM when I get to 1.025 right now I'm at 1.012
  11. She is yours!!!!! I will sleep easy knowing she went to a good home.
  12. So here is the deal, I have a beautiful black spot angle; she is 4+ inches and needs a new home due to my blue tang. :( I just want the best for her so the price is $0.01 to a good home, this will NOT be first come first serve and it will NOT be a raffle. Whoever has the most appropriate system for her will get her. There is a catch; my tank has been in hypo for two months and I just started raising the salinity today, this means it will take me at least 6 days to get salinity back up, it also means that the fish could have ick (incredibly unlikely but it is a possibility). If you would like a beautiful reef safe angle post up a pic of your tank or a link to your build thread (if you have one). Once my salinity is at 1.025 I will pick a winner.
  13. LOL, thats only two days. I'm sure he will get back to you when he checks it.
  14. I had a saltwater tank in the house the day I was born
  15. LOL. I was about to post that I couldn't belive the Pink Boobies hadn't been snatched up yet. They are by far the most florescent chalice I have ever seen. (drooler) (drooler) (drooler)
  16. Good save MVP, I have never kept puffers so I know next to nothing about them; except for their tendency to eat the critters I do keep. I have used quick cure (malachite green/formalin) in a marine tank with success, no puffers of course. The bottle instructs you to you half the freshwater dose. hypo is not fast but in reality it's best not to rush these things.
  17. That's my tank in ten years.
  18. Peppie, I saw that pic before I read the post and I almost screamed!!! I thought someone was going to use that foe a stand and i was like NOOOOO!!! Glad to read it is going to be well loved in a saltwater free home.
  19. Have seen cap snails before? They are little hitchhikers who come out mostly at night. They reproduce on their own and do a great job. Most LFS have them in their tanks; it might be worth asking your shop if they can round some up for you. Just put them in after lights out so the wrasse doesn't get them. Having a variety of snails seems to help, I think they each have different algaes that they prefer/dislike.
  20. Is it a fish only system? Do you ever plan on converting it to a reef. If you answered yes to the first question and no to the second you are in luck. Most meds like copper or quick cure will harm inverts but if you have none you can use them. Keep in mind that the copper will forever linger in the sand and rock, this means that you will never be able to turn your tank into a reef or sell your rock/sand to a reefer. The quick cure will stain your silicone if you have a glass tank but IME will not linger like copper. Both are quick and effective, I have never used copper so I am speaking purely from what I have read. Another option is Hypo (this is how I am currently treating my system) The advantage of hypo is that you will be able to use the rock and sand in a future reef but like the other treatments ALL inverts will need to be removed from the system prior to treatment. Hypo is effective but by no means quick. Hope that helps. feel free to post up any questions, I will try to check back on this thread. Good Luck!!!
  21. P.S. it looks like your piece of live rock doesn't have coraline, I would get a nice purple piece if I were you. Although I'm sure you will introduce coraline on frags eventually.
  22. looking good. My only critique is that aqua clear makes a much better filter than marinland. Looks like this is going to be a sweet little tank.
