  1. No its not hijacking at all, I totally agree, any imput from anyone is greatly appreciated. The bummer part for me is a tang is not really a viable option for smaller tanks, I might try the Kent Magnesium to see if that works too. All I know is after a year of using tap water and Instant ocean, and the corals doing great, I finally setup what I think is a better tank, use RODI water a Refugium with several kinds of Macro Algeal, updgrade to a Protien skimmer that is rated for several times the size of my tank, and BOOM....worst case of pest algea I have ever had in the whole time I have been keeping reef tanks...its crazy and kind of a bummer to finally have the tank setup how I really want it, and have it not work....kinda frustrating....Kinda wish I would have kept things the same and kept the old tank...ALL the sps where doing awesome in there, and no real bad algea....but this new tank is a nightmare.....and I really don't want to tear the whole tank down and "cook" the rock....its just a bummer, it would be awesome if there was some miracle cure that got rid of everything...lol
  2. Well, this is just my observation, I was kinda dissapointed, after a week of it being in the tank, it really hasn't done what I thought it would do, It seemed to nibble at the algea, but seemed to want to spend most of its time eating at the sand and the little diatom aglea that was there. I was expecting it to go crazy and eat all the algea, but nope....like I said it did nibble at it, but didn't eat it like I was hoping. I aclimated it to my wifes tank to see if he would eat other types of algea, and same thing there, seemed to be a sand grazer, hasn't really touched any algea in her tank either. And she has different types than I do, Macro, Pest, ect...Seems to like Diatom algea though.... I am going to try a Urchin next, and see what they do, as well as continue to do water changes and install a GFO reactor to curb any excess phosphates....We will see...
  3. Very Cool, Curious what kind of issues are you having with them? Pinched mantle? You should start a Clam Sperm Bank....lol
  4. Wow thats a nice colony, BIG too! Sweet!!! How much is each entry?
  5. That is freakin cool! made my day, thanks for sharing! That snail is priceless now!
  6. Sorry everyone, he picked my post, and I was scheduled to meet him tomarrow, but I am not able to make it, so I have PM'd him and mentioned maybe he could pick another number, hopefully someone closer, I wish I could make it, but plans have changed for me this weekend...darnit!
  7. If its a standard 40b from like Aqueon, then no it wouldn't have a brace, its all open.....
  8. Beautiful tank! I love to see progression pics, going back in the thread and seeing how it did look, and how it looks now, its awesome to see the changes. Thanks for sharing, its a beautiful tank!....I love those Monti Caps...beautiful! I also really like how its viewable from both sides, and each side looks different, pretty neat!
  9. Oh...then for sure, if I had to pick those two, I would go with the Marineland, Company has been around a long time, it has two T5's instead of just one, and the reflector is bigger and better on it, PLUS, I don't know this for a fact, but it seems easier to find the 150w DE bulbs pretty much anywhere, those other special "G12" bulbs, seem harder to find here, that is another thing to consider, the availablity of the bulbs and what K rating bulbs are available. They might be big in Europe, but not so much here, at least at the moment. I have never seen one in use, so I would be sketched about it being like a spot light effect, where the marineland has a larger reflector and would spread the light out better I think.
  10. If I had those two to choose from, I like the Aquaticlife casue it has two 150w lights, BUT it only has one T5 on each side, where the marineland single has 2 T5's on each side. The main issue I see is the single Metal Halide might not be very bright on the edges of the tank, if you suspended it above a ways, it might be better. The refectors are pretty small, like on my sunpod, so having two is better in my opinion. The cool thing about the aquaticlife one is that the metal halides can be rotated, I have never seen one being used, but the reflectors are even smaller, so unless its suspended it might cast a "spotlight" effect. I would go with the Marineland, it says it has a 14k bulb with it, and not a 10k, that with the 2 T5's would be a good setup I think, if you suspended it a bit off the tank, I think it would look really good.
  11. NICE!!! Looking GOOD! Did you get a higher Kelvin bulb? looks good!
  12. NICE!!! Looks Awesome! Glad you liked the sunpod, looks like it fit perfectly on your Biocube! Did you like the color of the Current USA 14k?
  13. It was my tank that busted, I took her 40b and she moved all her stuff to a 33 long, we each still have our own tank.........the dueling 40b is over, she won...THERE I SAID IT...My 40b was pretty much over before it started...(sad)....ON to the next competition!!! (laugh)
  14. I wouldn't mind joining either, Count me in...(clap) Depending on the price and what kind, we might snag 2 spots, one for me and one for Amanda, a competition within a competition(plotting)
  15. I don't see them anymore either, its weird but for some reason now that I don't know where everyone is from, I miss it, but before it didnt seem to matter all that much, I guess its one of those things where you miss it only when its gone.....I wonder what happened? Wait a sec, thats weird, after I posted this I noticed under my avatar it shows my address, but I can't see anyone elses.....Weird?
  16. Aren't they overseas? Kinda like the U.S. version of Aquatraders.com, selling cheap knockoffs made in China? I don't know, I think once shipping is added from overseas, it would bump the total price a bit. I have never ordered from them before though, so I don't know.
  17. WOW!!! Thats a SUPER deal!!! Josh is a great guy, This is a pretty sweet setup!
  18. I agree, I have been running 2-250w MH over my 40b and everything has been fine, suspended about 10-12" above the water, and a fan on one end and my temps stay at 79....granted the reflectors on a Sunpod are not the greatest, but its been working fine for me...I haven't had a problem, also my house is very consistant and doesn't fluxuate that much at all, so that helps. Before the 40b, I had a single 250w Sunpod over a 40g column, and never had over heating problems with it either, I was suprised what a little fan blowing across the water could do to lowering the temp. It does cause extra evaporation, which means you have to watch the salinity and do more frequent top offs, but thats not a huge deal to me.
  19. Whoa....Where have I been? I didn't know he had a shop? Where is it? in Tigard? I would love to go check it out, I had no idea it even existed....
  20. WOW!!! What a change! Looks Awesome!
