  1. Thanks for the help, guys. Could the top one be AoG or Devil's Armor maybe? A lot of these palys (is it a paly or a zoa?) look awfully similar... As for the second one, it looks an awful lot like the RPE, except no green mouth. If we can't get a 100% id, do I get to give them a new name and charge $110 pp?
  2. Alrighty zoa experts, help me put a name to these polyps: First up, purchased as Pink Zippers: Second, purchased as unknown. The brown areas in the picture are red in person. These guys are still recovering after being closed for 3 months Last up, we have a mystery snail hiding deep in a crevice. This guy looks to be around the size of a dime, and managed to go unnoticed in my tiny tank! What the heck is it, and is it friend or foe?
  3. Thanks to everyone for talking tanks and for all the great frags! That was fun:)
  4. Tailspot blenny! They pick at algae, and have great personality.
  5. The good news: You guys have gotten me totally pumped about this tank. I've actually decided to break down my CO2 injected planted freshwater 40br that has been running for 7 years to convert to the pipefish tank. The bad news: this project is actually going to involve refinishing one stand, rebuilding another, rebuilding a light fixture and drilling the 40. It will be fun for sure, but it is going to be a considerable amount of hours before water goes in the tank. The worse news: The wife has refused the funding for this project until after we have set up our wills, retirement accounts and life insurance. I don't know what the heck is wrong with her sense of priorities;) So, be on the lookout for a build thread sometime next year:p
  6. You are right, there are a number of variables that keep the calculator from being completely accurate. For example, who actually knows the true water volume of their system? It will get you in the right ballpark, then it is just testing and tweaking until it gets dialed in. A word of caution, if you end up using calcium chloride monohydrate, it is best to mix it in an open container such as a bucket. The solution gets incredibly hot, and if you mix directly in a gallon jug, there is nowhere for the heat to escape. Watching a too hot to touch jug of liquid sag and threaten to burst is a bit disconcerting.
  7. I use straight up baking soda, and feed grade calcium chloride bought from Concentrates in Clackamas, mixed up according to the Randy Holmes-Farley articles, and dosed according to the numbers here: http://reef.diesyst.com/chemcalc/chemcalc.html I understand using the feed grade CaCl might scare some people, but it seems to be working fine so far. Unless that was secretly why my tank crashed recently.... Hmmmmm
  8. Lots of water movement, be prepared to trim if there are warning signs of going sexual, make sure the pipefish will take mysis. Okay, can do. What is the likelihood I will find a pair of dragon face that will take mysis, and is a 30 cube big enough to house them?
  9. Any chance you are coming to Moloko next weekend? I could use a $10 Ponape.
  10. Sweet tank, Kevin! Alright guys, I'm reading and I'm learning:) Would a 30 cube with a HOB refugium and a power head or two make an adequate environment for a mixed softie and macro tank for pipefish without culturing pods? Unfortunately, culturing phyto and pods is out of the question right now:(
  11. You guys rock! Looks like I have some reading to do...
  12. I'm considering converting a tank over to marine planted with pipefish, but I'm finding helpful information to be scarce. Does anyone here know a thing or two about the subject and can help me out, or at least point me in the right direction?
  13. I hope I'm not getting in over my head, but I've started rebuilding my fuzzy stick collection. The tank now has Monti Setosa and blue Digi, Joe the Coral, Tri color Valida, Mystery milli (tri-color?), Cali? Tort and Bird of Paradise Bnest, along with assorted LPS, encrusting and plate montis, zoas and 'shrooms. Unfortunately, only Joe the Coral and Eagle Eye Zoas were feeling photogenic today: And a FTS showing off all my massive frags... maybe you can spot them
  14. Thanks for the great frags, they already had PE less than a minute in my tank:) To everyone else, Mandinga is a nice guy, with nice healthy colored up frags, for nice prices. Buy his stuff!
  15. I'll try to make it, Moloko is a great bar, and I had a great time talking tanks last time. If anyone coming has some frags of green slimer, rainbow or sunset milli, strawberry shortcake or similar acro, pink birdsnest, or fire and ice zoas, shoot me a pm...
  16. That rock work is amazing, really cool tank!
  17. Speaking of couples, here is my cleaner shrimp and it's parasitic isopod
  18. Amazing tank! Do you ever make it in to Portland?
  19. Thanks guys! It feels great to have a happy tank again.
