  1. Interesting question, I was wondering the same thing recently. For certain plants, I know they grow very well under MH, but create much thicker/nicer "flower blooms" under sodium lamps. So I was thinking it they may aid in blooming or polyp extension or somethign like that. But I know little about reefing, and since I never see any sodium talk or related hobby products, I assume someone has already proven them less beneficial than the halides.
  2. I'll take a big mag rock for $15... Pm me paypal please.
  3. cool! I may have to take some pics like this.
  4. Oooooohhhhhhh. Me likey that top colony pic! I think the g/f would fancy some of those for Valentines day. any chance I could get some of those from you? Maybe like a $10-20 chunk? I'd hate to show her a frag with like 2 pink zoo's on it :( That might be a bit dissapointing, lol
  5. Pink Zoos for $5 huh? Are they really pink? or more of a red? I need some buble gum pinkness for my girl.
  6. (Funny but I grew up in CSprings! Grad Cheyenne Mt '98) Couple good spots in PDX: For kids, check out slappy cakes on Belmont. Pancakes and fun. For eaters check out Pine State Biscuits. They have one on SE Belmont and one on NE ALberta. The on Belmont always has a long line and yeah, there are like seats for 10 people and you have to fisht for a spot, then everyone in line drools as you chow down. It was on Diners drive in s and dives a while back. I highly reccomend this spot for sure.
  7. I'm newish around here as well. I'll be nice to you
  8. haha, good looking out Gill. I'll get this as a little something extra for fun. But yeah, good call for sure. I know that Simpsons episode your talking about
  9. Thanks folks, I'll see what I can find.
  10. So my g/f is really supportive of this reefing hobby of mine, and starting to show more interest and enjoy relaxing while staring at the tank. I was thinking of getting her something for my tank for Valentines day. Why buy flowers that will die in days when I could buy her some coral that will last for much longer? (hopefully) Her favorite color is pink. (cheer) I'm pretty new to corals in general, but have a 75 gallon tank that's been set up for about 5 years and doing well. Lighting: I have 2x 46" VHO actinics and a 14k 250 MH. Could anyone reccomend a cool "hardy" Pink coral for me? Heck, if you have one for sale that would be swell as well! Thanks folks! (drinking)
  11. You can watch the Pilot online for free. And of course, the local pub theater (Bahgdad) airs it Friday nights so you watch it with all the other PDX hipsters!
  12. It is pretty funny in moments. Soem characters are pretty funny. Not sure how long it can go though.
  13. looking nice so far. What kind of lights do you have under the hood?
  14. Thanks for the tips folks. What is "Running GFO"? (noob, I know)
  15. I've got the green kind and yeah, it looks like bubble algae. It's a real pain. I've been poppin/breaking them everytime I do water changes, but they grow so fast. I've been told emerald crabs eat it but they never seem to make a dent in it. I'll be listening to here if anyone has any suggestions for us.
  16. This sounds very interesting...
  17. Thanks for all the help folks. Tricky thing is I'm setting this tank up for a buddy in CO, and I'm in Portland. He knows very little and I know just a bit more than him . He has the following overflow piggyback thing for his tank. Continuous Siphon Overflow, 1” Single Bulkhead, 600 gph. http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3579+3642&pcatid=3642 So the next question is what size sump pump should we get to balance this out? am I right by assuming we'd need soemthing less than 600 gph? Should that be enough for a 75 gallon reeftank? Or does he need two of these? Thanks!
  18. Perfect thanks! i'll go check out the threads for some visual reinforcement. Thanks everyone! (rock2)
  19. -It's glass. Thanks for the tip dsoz. I figured it would have to be some sort of siphon setup, just curious how I'll match the pump volume with an siphon volume.
  20. I'm helping my buddy set up a 72 gallon reeftank. It's the some tank I have (72 gallon glass bowfront) except mine has a cornered off trickle overflow area and his doesn't. He wants to run a refugium in his sump and I'm a bit clueless on how to plumb this thing. There are no holes in it and I think we want to avoid drilling it if possible. So we are looking to go over the back with the in and out supply. Total newb question I know, but does anyone have a diogram they could link or post, so I have some idea of how to set this up? If it takes two pumps thats fine, I'm just not sure how to get the water back and forth at the same exact rate of exchange so more isn't going up than down etc. Thanks in advance.
