  1. It looks really healthy and happy, not sure what you mean by bleached. I gots me some krill though, I can try that, just gotta keep the clown from stealing it.
  2. Thanks folks. I got the Rose BTA at Seahorse, he had a few on sale so I grabbed one and yeah, its really pink in all light levels. I think he got them from someone local, so it may be someone on the boards..? I just fed it some brine and my piggy clown came over and was stealing it out of RBT! any suggestions what to do about that? I'm like 99% sure its not actually feeding the thing.
  3. Hey folks, I posted a thread when I first joined, but have been much more active lately so I thought I'd sort of reintruduce myself and share some pics of my tank. (rock2) I'm sort of all over the place with hobbies and I shift my addictive attention around from time to time, but right now I'm all about my tank and am really enjoying it! My refound love is due the new 250 Watt MH I just hooked up. I also changed my VHO bulbs (both actinic) and I have a sort of dawn and dusk now. I faded in the MH over a couple weeks and things are looking sweet! Nothing impressive to a lot of you I'm sure, but its coming along nicely for me now that I'm back into it and buying some SPS and branching out a bit. (clap) The 72 gallon glass bowfront: started 5/6/06 but simply kept. Lighting 250W MH 14k 4-9pm Added 1/23/2011 2x46.5" VHO's, one is "454" and other is "super actinic" noon-midnight 5-10 gallon Sump Float valve with 5 gallon auto top off Tiny skimmer that really does a good job when there is waste Fuge with some LR and plants Other Corner trickle overflow Cool bow front magnification effect Light bioload(scratch) Wonderfully crafted 3/4" plywood hood, build in a couple hours with a 2" jigsaw and a 6 pack. (Bowfronts are such a pain to find/make lids for) I laugh at myself for it, but it really does the job well, just ugly and heavy. Fish Paired Percula Clowns hosted to softball sized frogspawn 2 pajama cardnals Yellow watchman goby Coral Beauty (new, 1/16/11) Chromis that survived the cycling process from day one. (gangsta!) Anyway.... Here are some pics, sorry to ramble, I could talk for hours about my tank... My apartment glows, looks pretty cool from the street! I stopped using filter bags... is that really bad? DOH! Since the vhos are on from 12-12, and the MH is on from 4-9, I have a sort of dawn and dust period that I enjoy as much as the bright cycle. Dusk/Dawn Daytime 4-9pm (may start to add time, what do you think?) My wallpaper at work: Smile for the camera you beauty I've got some bubble algae issues, I know, but I just got this big old 2-3" elmerald crab from noobtosalt, as well as some pink zoos for my fiance on Vday. First time I met a PNWMAS member and Jesse was really cool. Thanks dude! The crab is really chowing on the bubbles so thats awesome. I also added a cleaner shrimp the other day and within hours, my coral beauty was letting the shrimp clean it off (trace amounts of ich that lead me to buy the shrimp). It was great to see two biological solutions take effect right before my eyes. I hope you like my tank! And now you know a bit more about me when you see me around the boards. Suggestions on my tank are welcomed! Thanks for looking.
  4. Is there a reefing wiki? if not, maybe thats a project you can start with them... Just a thought.
  5. I think my new emerald crab like to tip frags over. He broke 2 last night. I'll have to catch him in the act and sump him for an hour.
  6. I'm totally in! When's the next meeting? lol
  7. right on, thanks. I actually have the gel so thats perfect.
  8. Not sure what happened in my tank today... get home from work and a horn frag and a birdsnest frag are both off the plug in the sand... I've never messed with this stuff before, but can i just use a little tupperware full of tank water and use regular super glue to reattach them? Thanks.
  9. You can drop frozen food chunks on the back of Koralia pumps to feed your tank. As it dissolves the food shoots across your tank, making your fish swim around to eat, and also provides less active or shy fish a chance to get some food.
  10. The workshop at seahorse aquarium supply made mine from scratch out of acrylic to my dimensions. Still works 5 years later! If no one else speaks up, I'd check them out.
  11. Ah, missed that. Wish I could help. Not sure how to cheat nature in the setup phase though. My guess is your amonia is killing things. I'd test that and do some w/c ASAP Good luck though!
  12. I want in on some of this action! Just need take a sweet pic when I get home.
  13. You have all that in a tank you set up a couple weeks ago with no sump or skimmer? Yikes. Could it be an amonia spike?
  14. Interesting question, I was wondering the same thing recently. For certain plants, I know they grow very well under MH, but create much thicker/nicer "flower blooms" under sodium lamps. So I was thinking it they may aid in blooming or polyp extension or somethign like that. But I know little about reefing, and since I never see any sodium talk or related hobby products, I assume someone has already proven them less beneficial than the halides.
  15. I'll take a big mag rock for $15... Pm me paypal please.
  16. cool! I may have to take some pics like this.
  17. Oooooohhhhhhh. Me likey that top colony pic! I think the g/f would fancy some of those for Valentines day. any chance I could get some of those from you? Maybe like a $10-20 chunk? I'd hate to show her a frag with like 2 pink zoo's on it :( That might be a bit dissapointing, lol
  18. Pink Zoos for $5 huh? Are they really pink? or more of a red? I need some buble gum pinkness for my girl.
  19. (Funny but I grew up in CSprings! Grad Cheyenne Mt '98) Couple good spots in PDX: For kids, check out slappy cakes on Belmont. Pancakes and fun. For eaters check out Pine State Biscuits. They have one on SE Belmont and one on NE ALberta. The on Belmont always has a long line and yeah, there are like seats for 10 people and you have to fisht for a spot, then everyone in line drools as you chow down. It was on Diners drive in s and dives a while back. I highly reccomend this spot for sure.
