  1. Yes they are supposed to ship to distributors before the end of the month. I'm betting there are lots of people out there like me sitting on the fence trying to make a decision.
  2. I'm probably going to jump to Sols also. Was waiting for the new Vega to come out, but there are too many unknowns with the Vega. I'm sure it's going to be a fantastic fixture, but will it be worth the $100+ premium over the Sol? I'm looking to get probably 8 to cover a 6 ft tank, so that is a small chunk of change in additional funds over the Sol. Right now I have a 48L x 30w tank, so will most likely run 4 - 6. This Sunlight deal might make my decision easier.
  3. Well said. Unfortunately most people are introduced to the hobby through their LFS and rely on them for the initial expertise. I would like to see a LFS have more educational tools to help people to new the hobby. Maybe a loaner library or some great website links? My LFS is uneducated. If you mention RODI water, refractometer or even protein skimmer to most of the employees they just give a blank stare. If you ask them what you need for a saltwater setup they will show you a Fluval filter and sell you a FW light. They also stock some of the worst fish possible. I have seen far more sweetlips, panther groupers, and copperband butterflies than anything suitable for someone new to the hobby. It drives me crazy.
  4. Do I dare ask what it was used for?
  5. Have this posted on CL but figured it might be worthwhile to post here also. Never know some of you might be motorcycle enthusiasts. Would trade for 5 ecotech radions and a pair of vortech MP60s. http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/mcy/3211671232.html
  6. I'm very interested in how that works. I read nearly the entire reefcentral thread last night. I do have a number of acro colonies so it will suck dipping them all. Fortunately most of them are small. It does give me some relief to finally figure out why a couple of my colonies weren't doing as well as they did in my 75. I've been driving myself insane checking water parameters, flow, lighting, ect. I wish I would have found them sooner.
  7. Crap. I just was looking very closely at one of my Acro colonies that was receding and the [language filter] little buggers are on it! The only new corals I have bought in the last year for my display were from madmike a few weeks ago. Im sure they didnt come from his tank. I did buy a bunch of new cleanup crew about 2 months ago. They must have come from there. I would have never thought I would get these in my display. Im pretty careful about dips and quarantine for new additions.
  8. The A150s are $265 and 32 watts. The A350s are $399 and 92 watts.
  9. The Kessils also look awesome. I'm really happy with mine, just wish it was controllable through an Apex. I'd buy four more for my display tank if they were.
  10. The Kessil A350 and A350W are dimmable just not through a controller.
  11. Not sure about the hard corals, but most soft corals like dirtier water. My zoas die off when I get lower nutrient levels. Maybe your water is too clean for the softies and you are just having bad luck with SPS?
  12. Kessil A350 or A350W if you like the pendant look.
  13. X2. I have a glasscages tank and the quality is not there. It holds water fine but the seams look terrible and the edges are rough. Fortunately it is a temporary tank only.

    Help with sump

Both my sumps have center returns. Check out my build threads for photos. One is a 40B and the other is a 29 tall. I will try to get you baffle heights later, but you can probably get a rough idea based on the pictures.
  15. Yes, it is difficult enough just to find a place to shoot, let alone one that can accommodate a group.
  16. That is very good point. Obviously you have been in the type of situations the rest of us pray to never be in. My post probably came across different than I intended. I don't think the high cap is necessary (my standard carry gun is not), but if all else being equal, size, weight concealment, ect. I will pick the extra rounds. I am also firm believer that people shouldn't own / carry, unless they practice, train and continue to practice. Shooting half a box at the range after buying the weapon is not adequate. Those are the type of people that could potentially injure innocent bystanders.
  17. There is no substitution for range time and training to prepare yourself. I have a gun range on my property and have shot tens of thousands of rounds. I'm very confident in my ability to hit what I aim for in just about any situation. But I know if the time ever comes to actually pull the trigger, that is a whole new game. You can't replicate that kind of stress. I would rather have 14+1 because I'm not going to stop until the threat is stopped.
  18. X2. It's worth the drive and the $100 admission fee. Thanks again Mike!
  19. Oh that's no fun. . You need at least a couple of Craigslist offers. I'll give you $0.76, 23 ft of weed eater string, a 40x12.50R16 tire with 35% tread left, two laying hens and a carb from my Husky chainsaw. Deal?

    Kessil A350?

The new Kessil showed up today. This is a standard 40B tank. It is worth noting that all the photos were with my IPhone so nothing was adjusted. Frag tank with 100 watt compact bulb (sump light). Also room lights are on in this photo so that makes everything look brighter than it really is. Kessil at about 25% power both channels and other lights off. 100% power both channels. 100% blue and 0% white. 0% blue and 100% white. I gotta say the shimmer from this light is incredible. Never seen a halide like this. Overall the power seems good, but it doest appear as bright as my 250 DE halides. Very impressive though for such a small fixture. I will be playing with it more to see if I can tweak the colors to match my Phoenix bulbs. Also I will take some more photos in manual mode with the DSLR so you can get a more accurate representation of the brightness.
