  1. Thanks ReeFit & Gill. Im really suprised I haven't nuked the whole thing. Started off as my first SW tank. Lots of lessons learned, but with the help from the people on here I avoided many of the catastrophic mistakes.
  2. I guess it has been quite a while since I have visited this site, or updated my thread. Very busy lately -- We got a new future fish nerd addition to our family. Here is a quick update shot of the neglected tank and the not-so neglected new frag.
  3. I had a pair that also hosted Xenia. It was pretty fun to watch them weave in & out of the stalks.
  4. Ive always had great luck with Nikon or Canon. I buy the Canon Powershots for my guys at work. They take very nice photos and are very durable. They often get dropped and hold up for several years. If you stick with a large manufacture like Nikon or Canon, you cant really go wrong.
  5. I was able to catch the Midas and move it to the QT, but my Prazi-Pro did not show up in time. This is about the 6th or 7th fish that I have had mysteriously die in the last few month. All have been new additions. Im not sure what is going on. They seem to either pass away in a week or so, or they last 6-8 weeks and have similar symptoms to the Midas. Eat well, look healthy, no visable parasites such as ich, and they just dont put on weight. I also had the Yellow Fin wrasse that started the death spiral for a week and then died. I read an article about flukes causing mysterious deaths. Anyone had to deal with flukes?

    Naso not eating

Is it a new fish, or have you had it for a while? Lately all the fish I have bought seem to slowly starve to death. It is really weird since they eat well and stay active, but they get skinnier and skinnier until they finally dont have enough energy to eat and pass. Im thinking it is some kind of parasite or disease.
  7. Maxi-Jet MJ1200 with the clear hose off a Python. I dont know what size ID hose it is, but it fits snugly over the discharge of the MJ.
  8. Here are some other good links for DIY macro lenses. Some are pretty crude, but take nice shots. Also you can buy couplers to mount 2 lenses together to create a super macro. http://stephenelliot.com/2007/05/15/reverse-lens-macro-photography-tutorial/ http://www.diyphotography.net/diy_reverse_macro_ring http://jyoseph.com/diy-macro-lens-reverse-mount-extension-tube/
  9. Thanks Kim. I did google swim bladder disease and found a bunch of information specifically about wrasses. Seems like there are many others that have had the same problem. Some recover, some dont.
  10. If's its a love dance, then I need to call Planet Earth to film it. So far sticking around, but I had pretty much written it off, so now it is getting my hopes up. Maybe that is it's evil plan -- get my hopes up, then croak.
  11. Day 3 & it's still kicking.
  12. I have Korallias on a wavemaker, so I guess it is possible. I have had that happen before to a Clownfish, but there were marks on its side. This fish has no marks. On another note, it was missing all day today, so I figured crab food. Then right before feeding time it made an appearance. It is still doing the corkscrew swimming technique, but is actively pursuing food and eating. Weird.....
  13. I didnt figure it would make it, but Im blown away at how fast a fish can go from being visually healthy to nearly dead. I also dont understand how they still have enough spunk to try and eat. I mostly want to figure out what could have caused this, so I can try and prevent it in the future. I have had horrible luck with new fish lately.
  14. OK here is the first video. This was after I put food into the tank to feed the other fish. You can see the wrasse is acting strangely but was actually taking food away from some of the others. Sorry for the poor quality, the first was an iphone video and the second was taken with my Blackberry. This is the death spiral video. The wrasse was doing this immediately before and after the feeding.
  15. Our yellow fin wrasse appears to be doing a death spiral. It appears alert and is actually eating food, but it looks like a cut plug herring trolled during salmon season. Im waiting for a video to upload and I will post it in a while. Has anyone seen this behavior before? I tested my water again and nothing unusual. Corals are good with full PE. What the heck is going on?
  16. I seriously doubt that I will be able to get it out of my display to put it in QT. Can you mix an anti parasitic with food? Will it harm corals & inverts?
  17. Our new Midas is slowing losing weight and getting thinner. It has been eating well and is always hungry, but looks like it is slowly starving to death. When it eats it doesn't look like its stomach is filling up, like the other fish do. Any advice? We are currently using Rod's Food 2x a day.
  18. The UPS driver delivered my Apex controller yesterday. (clap) Im going to spend this weekend setting it up. Anyway, does anyone here run a wireless connection on their Apex? If so, how do you have it setup?
  19. Good point Algae, that is great advise. My sister tells this to people all the time.
  20. You can't go wrong with either a Canon or Nikon. My sister is a professional photographer and she uses Nikons. My wife uses Canons. Both are very nice. Sometimes the packages appear to be good deals, but really arent. You need to check carefully what comes with them. Many of the "extras" can be found for really cheap on Amazon or some of the online photo shops. I would suggest picking out what camera body you want, then spending the extra money on good lenses. (That is if you are going digital SLR.)
  21. Glad your happy. The pieces you gave me are really nice. They look great under my lights. Thanks for the trade!
  22. RBTA is spoken for, but the torch & zoas are still available.
