  2. Clowns You say they r a mated pair? Have they ever laid eggs for you? If so I have someone interested!!!! Thanks
  3. I MISSED IT AGAIN DOH!(threaten) I had to deal with the ex's parents coming over to see their grand daughters for the first time in over a year. They are nice people (unlike their son:p) so I would never keep them from seeing thier only grandchildren! It was a little later than I planed and I had to get get kids fed and into bed for school the next day. I was so mad I had to miss it though!! I was really looking forward to It!!! Oh well I am lookin forward to the OCA tour and trying to swing a camp trip!! So I will see everyone there!
  4. Meet and Greet You definatly will have no trouble finding the crazy bunch that meets there!!!! Just look for the big bunch of people that all look like they are (nutty)!!!! Myself included, I will be there and I might even drag the new boyfriend. Though he is not much of "FISH" person he does apparently talk to his friends about my corals because when they come they ask me about this or that which "Charles said was really cool!". We will see if I can get him to come?
  5. Help Identifying? I have 1 of these??? http://www.fishtankforums.com/6-saltwater-aquariums-general-discussion/11482-hitch-hiker-new-coral.html
  6. Just a little to late. I have been hit or miss on the site latley and apparently I missed the info about the meet and greet! Well I will definatly do my best to be at the next meet since I have been slacking so much! With work, life and my tank its a wonder I can find the time to sleep now and then! I did get to stop buy and see John and Constance last week though and I should add their tank is looking pretty good. Definatly better than their old one!
  7. mineral mud I used this in my fuge I had setup on my old tank and was actually able to notice some results within a week or so. It seemed like my corals were opening up a little more and maybe grew a little faster. I plan to use again once I get my tank squared away. For a smaller fuge you could prbably get away with just using the booster even? I had a 10 gal fuge before and a 4" sandbed and used just the Miricle Mud booster. You could probably do this too? I would check around though.
  8. Algea I also had some algea problems with a tank I bought used. It had been setup for like 5 years by the previous owner. When I got the tank resetup at home i went to clean the sand bed for the first time and it was bad! about 3 mths later and into a pretty bad hair and caulerpa uprising I decided to disassemble my tank scrub what rock I could with a wire brush, and thoroughly rinse it in clean water. While it was apart I put in all new sand and went with a much shallower sand bed, about 1". After that I have not really had any trouble with any algea, except in my fuge of cource! just my 2cents. How long has your tank been up and running? How old is your sand?
  9. macro I have been doing some research and I did find this: http://www.hawaii.edu/reefalgae/invasive_algae/chloro/caulerpa_taxifolia.htm However how are we supposed to know if we have the Med. strain or the Hawiian strain?.................The world may never know unless we all walk around with microscopes and have a degree in Biology! This is where its really complicated!(scratch)
  10. I had the funniest thing happen today. A lil Background info: I setup a 10 gal hex in my chiropractors office a few months back. Just a basic lil reef. HOB filter, no skimmer but I do 4-5 gall water changes weekly or bi-weekly. 18 Watt PC light. 3 med size pieces of LR and a couple of mini zoo colonies and 2 shrooms, oh and a small lettuce coral. Fish: 1 little baby occelaris and a 3/4-1" long 6line wrasse, (I know he will out grow and overstock but he has a home in my tank or elsewhere later). I also have 4 types of macro to help with water quality and they grow out of control, I trim them back weekly!green grape, taxifolia, prolifera(spelling?), and 1 I do not know the name for, but has been more difficult for me to keep in the past in my own tank. The funny thing: A patient came into the office the other day and freaked out on the doctor because he has every kind of Macro Algae that is illegal in the united states! I know you cannot flush macro and should dispose of it in a plastic bag in the garbage but I was not aware of it being illegal and if it is then why does everyone seem to have it in their systems! Apparently her family owned a pet store and it is illegal to possess or to buy/sell/trade in the united states! I had to laugh but my doctor was concerned at first! I calmed him down about it, but his recep. was affraid the FBI was gona bust through the door or something and arrest them for have illegal goods in their aquarium!!!!(clap)
  11. I have an emergency situation. My sisters tank had a t-5 fixure which became so curroded with salt it was bulging out the ends of the protective cover! I did not have time to check on her tank and she did not know better. I cannot believe she did not have a fire!!! She is no longer working and I cannot afford to buy her new lights. She does have a few polyps and shrooms currently in the tank. If anyone have any lights retro or fixtures would be better! with bulbs then let me know and let me know what you are asking for them. Even something to borrow for a little while untill she can get a job or a tax return would be amazing!!!! Thanks
  12. Story Not that I am by any means trying to defend someone who may or may not have done anything illegal but someone from the PNWMS and maybe PCI should contact the News/Oregonian about this and maybe help clarify to the public about the nature of this shipment and what its uses are. Maybe just explaining that the shipment was meant for reactor media and why reactor media is used for reef aquariums. This would be a good way for the PNWMAS to help get the word out about proper aquaculture practices and importation and wild collection practices. I think that as a Marine Aquarium Society we understand more about what is going on with this case then the "regular joe" so it should be our job to spread our knowledge about the situation.
  13. Bulk I know Scott from reef corals is selling Bulk Magnesium, Calcium, Kalkwasser, and also a reef buffer and the purk there is you would get to check out the MANY awsome corals he has for sale too! We just got done fragging a bunch this weekend! He buys Large quantities so he can sell you what are wanting! Scott Reef Corals 503-709-7860 And to make it better he is in Beaverton!
  14. power center I also had problems with 1 I had shorting out and it wat sparking and smoking. I am sure it would have started a fire if I had not gotten to it. My brother saw the flashing of the sparks behind the tank at 4 am when he went to the bathroom or it may have burned the house down! There was no water or slat around or on it! It was dusty but that was it! I would definatly not recommend buying one of these! If you are wanting a timer I would recommend a powerbar with a GFCI and the individual timers. The only thing I was running on my mine was my return pump, 1 65 watt PC and a couple of powerheads and a 50 watt heater on a timer to come on at night when lights were off!
  15. carpet Where did you order it from that you got the wrong item?
  16. cube tank Thanks for all the advice I will take it all into consideration when I get things going. Every bit of imput is helpful to me and hopefully to others. I may end up going a little smaller but I have not decided really yet, I am still in the planning stages. I will probably purchasing everything with Tap plastics since I prefer to buy locally whenever possible!
  17. (plotting)I am considering buying some acrylic and making a new nano cube tank. I was thinking like 20X20X20 OR 22"X22"X22" and plumbing it in with my current system but also having its own refugium type filtration built into the back. I am thinking this would give me the opportunity to tear down my 75 and drill it again and make some adjustment to the flow that I cannot do with it running. Anyway I am thinking about 1/4" clear acrylic and I do have some help with building it. I was curious what cement/brand is recommended. I am just unsure if there are some that cannot be with an aquarium?(scratch) Any advice would be appreciated.(naughty) This would be a project worked on slowly not something I will be buying and building this weekend, if you know what I mean. Thanks
  18. Pink Monty I would love 1 if you are ever up in the portland area. O I have a little I could trade including some really nice ORA Green birds nest and another birds nest I am not sure about if you are wanting sps or some softies I could frag for you let me know when you may be coming up if you are interested. Thanks!
  19. Dehumidifier Got 1 ordered. It the Goldstar 50 pint unit with electric controls from walmart.com $145 plus 22$ shipping. It had really good reviews in consumer report so I figured it couldn't be to bad. I would have gone to Lowes but the Lowes by me has employees that are pretty much all dumb and some are #*%^$@@$^&. So I went the online route. I will have it between the 21-25 th of Jan and I will give it a week then post me results here.
  20. Purple sand You do not have to do anything special with it, just give it a really good rinse off. The only other factor you will have with it rather than using crushed coral is that it has no buffering qualities, so you will have to be sure to maintain you water chemistry a little more closely is all. I may end up using it though and setting up a 5 gal with a beta and a frog or something for my kids. I have not decided yet, maybe a nano reef with some softies and a shrimp or something.
  21. Petco Has anyone ever thought about taking this to the state level? An idea is that the club could organize a representative to contact local legislation, senators, congrass, whoever will listen and get the ball rolling there..... Impart tougher strickter policies on the holding and sale of saltwater fish. Maybe you have to have a special lisence or something. And this would include annual inspection by TRAINED knowledgable parties. Everyone knows good and well that most if not all of what petco sells is wild caught. It has to be collected, held, shipped, held, distributed, held, probly distributed again to the stores...... What has to be decided is how far this needs to go? Yes petco, walmart, petsmart, big box stores should not be allowed to carry live animals unless they are going to properly care for them. Maybe we can get a petition going involve RC and any other group interesed! Any make it illegal for any but privatly owned and operated store to sell aquarium fish/coral/inverts. Then the distributors are just going to start selling the sick fish to the smaller independant stores. I fell that where we really need to hit is to get legislation in order to better regulate the fish trade better in general, all aspects of it! Lets start with Oregon and branch out from there. If we can get this going then we can pass the word onto other groups in other states and eventually get livestock sales banned at all big box store nation wide. This is going to happen it just needs to be started, once it gets going I really think a lot of good changes could be made to better things. People also need to think about things like how many wild caught fish are in your tank??? How much did you pay for them because I can tell you one thing many of the fish you own are going to be harder and harder to get and the price is going to climb ever higher. Are people ready for this because it will really mean a lot of changes that people may not be ready for good and bad............................................................................................................................... Just my 2 pieces I will pass my soap box now, whos up?
  22. De Humidifier What are all the specs on the one you got I am shoping for 1 right now but the Home depot by me in sherwood, or said that they are no longer carrying them....... I will probably order online but I would like to get 1 that has worked good for someone else. My other question is that with a dehumidifier do you notice more evaporation of your tank water? I have a small 2 bdr apt and a small living room with a 75 reef ( I need to update signature I know), single 400 MH 18 PC actinics and one powerful 4" fan built on my fixture, with 20 gal long refug/sump. I also have my little vacant biocube that is looking for a new home owner or renter right now, but I need new lights first! I think moisture was already a problem with my apts before I moved in because they made me sign this mold/ moisture aggreement with my lease. Makes sence because 1 whole wall of my apt is in a hillside. So anyway got mold in all my windows, even bedrooms, mold in corners inside of metal door is always wet and water on floor at bottom of the door...... I am allergic to mold and do not have the time to bleach windows and walls everyday so I need something that works or some suggestions. I am at work all day and do not feel comfertable leaving a window open all day while I am gone. HELP!!!!!
  23. M&G I will try to come on sunday, I can frag a couple of colors of zoos to bring along to trade also if I can come..........
  24. I am looking for a 1" or 3/4" seaswirl for my return. Due to current financial situation the cheaper the better! Also willing to trade a bunch of coral frags. Bright pink and some purple shrooms, a bunch of different colors of zoos, some purple encrusting sps (do not remember the name), green bubble tip, Tiny little teddy bear crab!, pink clove polyp, rock covered with yellow sponge-beautiful and spreads quickly, a couple of types of macro algea...... Also have a 29 gal tank with stand, has a 10 refugium/sump, Crushed coral (no longer alive), and can include a 65watt PC retrofit light, has canopy but its not in very good shape. stand and tanks need some cleaning from salt creep but are not damaged. You can choose between a mirror back tank with black trim or a standard 29 gal with oak trim. Also have a 10 gal freshwater tank with purple sand and a biowheel filter, easily could be saltwater with purple sand would be cool lookin'!!!!!! Anyway let me know what you got and how much you want for it!!!! Thanks
