  1. BIG ROCK Give Joel at waves a call I was in there fri and they had some very nice LARGE pieces, do not know the weight but I would around 20-30 lbs pieces, nice purple stuff to. I bet you could talk him into a trade for some of your smaller stuff if you ask. He also had some base rock when I was in there a couple of weeks ago, nothing in your lb range though. I did not look fri when I was in. Good luck!
  2. sump what are the dimensions for the first sump posted for $30?
  3. DO NOT BUY THESE SEAHORSES!!!! I went in there a few weeks ago they had some in then too. They were breathing heavily and were curled up in the corner. The manager told me they were eating frozen mysis and brine. When I asked him to feed them a little so I could see them eat he informed me NO they had already been fed that morning!!! (flame)I got enraged and tried to explain to him seahorses needed to be fed at leased 2-3 times per day due to their digestive system and he informed me I did not know what I was talking about and that seahorses do just fine being fed 1 time per day(flame)(flame)(flame) After arguing with him for several minutes I just finally told him he was a dumb as* and stormed out!!!! Good Luck in your search for the dwarfs though......
  4. 70 watt My tank is different, I can monitor it better. This tank I will only see once a week when I service it. I need something I do not have to worry about!!!! Aquaticengineer...... I have that in mind!!! I just thought I would see what somebody here has first so I do not have to do much elecrical wiring. I might even be willing to pay you to buy the stuff and put it together?????(naughty)
  5. 150 watt Thanks I saw it and I will keep it in mind. I think it might be a little over what I wanted though, a 70watt is a lot of light...... I will send you a pm. Thanks Amanda
  6. MEET AND GREET I have to say this was one of the best meetings we have had there. A ton of great topics were brought up!!!! I cannot wait untill the next meeting!!! They seem to get better and better each time. Thanks to Rob and Carolyn for coming it was very interesting to hear about the fish trade in another part of the us and how lucky we really are for all of our wonderful stores and clubs we have here. we are truely blest with that!!! Hope your move is going well and you get up here permanently soon so you can get your tank going!!!!!
  7. I am looking for a 70 watt MH HQI or mogul. I do not really care! A fixture would be great but can be retro. I need it asap for as cheap as possible! Let me know what you have and how much prefer with a bulb even if its pretty old. Its for a tank I have setup for a friend and need to get some light on this tank for the softies. The problem is that it is a tall, narrow tank so I fugure MH is the best option to get light all the way down to the bottom. I would like to in the future after the tank is more seasoned be able to put a couple of sps in there to so MH is my only option there. Like I said I need to find this ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!Anybody, I do not mind a drive if that is what it takes!!!!!!!!!(fingers)
  8. Tank Eater The only thing I can pinpoint it down to is my serpent star........ For crabs all I have is hermits, blue leg and red leg and scarlet, nothing very big. On the good side my sand sifter seems to be healing nicely!(scary). All my rock I have had for a very long time and I like a reef nurd use to sit and look through my tank with this old red light I had. Pretty cool nothing was disturbed by it like they were with the flash light, they would pretty much ignore it and go about their thing. I do have a skunk cleaner shrimp but he never bothered it before sometime swimming and landing on it even....... not attacking it just perching on it........ I do not know but I am getting rid of my serpent star this weekend for sure!!!!!
  9. adding Oh and I should say that my params are all stable and good. due for a water change this week but only for habit mainly. He was doing doing so good and growing fast!!!!(flame)(flame)(flame)
  10. Thanks Thank you all for your kind words. I am very proud of it and now upset. I went to work monday and turned on the lights before I left, all was well and everything looking good! Then I came home to an empty clam shell....(sad)(sad)(sad)(sad)(sad)(sad)(sad)(sad)(sad)(sad) The only thing that might possibly have eaten it was my smaller/med. sized serpent star?........(scratch) I also noticed tonight that my sand sifter star seems to be missing half of one of his legs????(scratch)(scratch)(scratch)(scratch) He looked OK otherwise and it seems to be healed, no flesh or anything visible. The only other thing that it could be eating my critters could be the big purple people eater!!!! Could my sand sifter have split??? I rarely see him so I have no idea what could have happened to him.(plotting)(scratch)(scratch)(scratch)(scratch)(scratch)(scratch)(scratch)(scratch)(scratch)(scratch)(scratch)
  11. Ich I got ich once from a fish I bought when I did have any QT tank setup. He was at the store in the same tank for 5-6 weeks with no signs or symptoms of anything so I figured I was safe......... WRONG! I only lost him and one other fish luckily. I used a product call Kick Ich by a company called Ruby Reef. It seemed to clear up the ich within a couple of days. It is totally reef safe I believe and I treated with my anemones and all and did not notice a change in their condition at all. Its worth a shot on you tank so you will not have to wait a full 7 weeks, I think the treatment is only 3 weeks or something. It been a while..... Welcome to the forum, and good luck with your tank!
  12. New Store He is a good friend of mine...... He has worked very hard to hand pick only the healthiest livestock!!!! We will hopfully have his coral tanks up in the next couple of weeks then a few weeks after that start into some corals. I have been with him to his supplier to help pick out fish and he has some very nice corals, especially SPS so I am looking forward to getting the coral up and going so I can help him out with the corals. You can send me a pm or give him a call if there is anything fish or coral you are look for. His supplier can get ahold of pretty rare stuff that I have to say I rarly if ever see around here!!!! Glad you all like his shop!!! I will have to pass it on to him. If you have not already checked it out you definatly should!!! He will probably become a sponser some time in the next couple of weeks when we get things sorted out as far as sponsers and such goes....... Thanks Amanda
  13. RBTA I had a pretty large one that wert through the grid on my hang on overflow box. and through the U tube. It looked liked it was shreded body and all guts hanging out. I put o a glove and as gently as I could I scooped it out. While in my hand it fell into pieces!!!! I thought it was gone but I dropped the pieces in the tank anyway. A couple of weeks later one came crawling out from behind the rocks! The a while later another one. then another!!!! So from 1 RBTA I went to 3......... So I thought!!!!DOH! A month after I found the last little RBTA, I was cleaning my tank out good and was checking my tubing and overflow box like I do every other month or so and there it was another little perfectly formed and healed RBTA............. Soooo do not give up hope at all!!!! If it is holding onto the rocks it I would think it will probly be ok...... Good luck!!!!
  14. tank I am interested in the 30 gal and the nano skimmer do you have any pics of them or can you tell me a little more about the condition of the tank and where its drilled?(back, side, etc....) Thanks Amanda
  15. My clam Thanks everyone I am very proud of my tank...... When I first bought this tank I only paid $50 for it! It was the tank stand canopy and LS, and a couple fish none of which I still own, I traded them all off. I built this tank from the ground up and I love it, Its my BABY! I do not want to know how much money I have put into this tank all together (and do not want to know) but I got deals on everything I bought. I got my clam from from upscales at about 2-2 1/2" for only $30! Its color is much better in person for sure!!!
  16. Aiptasia If you have a butterfly fish I would throw them in after you pry off the bigger ones. I do not think butterflys will go after aiptasia if they are too big. but taking the big ones off the rock is not that difficult, its pretty much like moving any other type of anemone.Or you could boil it and then "cook" it in saltwater for 6 weeks would be the cheapest but not the most timely. good luck(scary)
  17. Reef market This is sort of the point I was getting at too. We need to contact them directly in person or over the phone and make a formal invitation to one of the companies to give a real demonstration of their product/s..... Anything done in person will always get more then sending them a generic invitation to rent a booth. And I talked to several of the store owners about the NWCFM and I know many of their reasons for not being at the CFM. But this event was supposed to be geared around aqua-cultured coral only! A "Reefer's Market" is geared toward anything under the sun (or the Halides:p). For example Joel over at Waves makes some of the best glass tanks around, He could have a couple of the smaller nano tanks there to sell and as examples so he can get orders for larger tanks. Among livestock or new/used dry goods if he wanted to. The whole idea is to try and make this a real event that they are going to want to attend. This needs to be an event where they can showcase their "specialty"........
  18. Reef Market It does not have to be 2,000 people, but pretty much you start with something the size of the NWCFM........ Which had a bunch of empty tables so what I am saying is lets fill those tables!!!!! Have the local coral farmers, hobbyists who are interested in a tank (or a couple who want to go in together and share the tank if they do not have enough to fill them.), hobbyists who have hand built items like sumps or overflows or skimmer....... Give stores here the option of a booth, and invite one of the local companies to come in and provide a demonstration for us at a certain time (like noon) and a guest speaker to come in and spend the day talking with members at a booth then at a certain time like (3pm) give a speech on their topic of specialty...... This would not be HUGE at first since it would be the first time of the event. But with word of mouth this event could double by the next year. I think it could be pretty large compared to what we are used to But that does not mean it would be a bad thing at all............ Obviously some people may not think that a big event in this area is a good idea, However I for one do think its possible and would be a really fun idea! We should make it once a year type of thing at the opposite time of year as the NWCFM so as not to infringe on them. Maybe next fall or something in October maybe. After school starts and before the x-mas spending period really starts. Spring is no good cause everyone parties or leaves town for spring break, and then summer begins again. Many people are traveling during the summer so I think after school starts would hopefully allow more people to attend since they will generally be home, and on a saturday this time, maybe. This is what I think I know there are those that will appose this, but not everyone can always be happy. There is always someone who thinks something should be done a certain way, but without change everything would be the same. And without trying new things there would never be progression.............. We need to give something like this a shot, why not try it(plotting) And this club needs A LOT of both if it is to survive!!!!!!!!!
  19. reefers market I think this is a great Idea to..... This is more of what I expected from the NWCFM! Everybody thought I was nuts for denoting on it but I thought it would be so much bigger with so many more booths. Someone in the club should be appointed to take charge in this with others lending contacts and help of course..... This should be a well organized event!!!! I think it has great possibilities to be HUGE, we just need to be very organized about it>>>>>>> With the right advertising this could be an event for the whole westcoast!!! I think anyone should be allowed be to buy a booth to sell homemade tank products and some of the people on this site have large systems that could be fragged and then they could sell them there to make some cash.... Or TRADES for that matter. Guest speakers are a great Idea, as would some of the more local companies giving demonstrations of their products...... Just to give some ideas........... I am already accited!!!!!! LETS GET THIS THING ON THE ROAD!!!!!
  20. Does anyone know the best thing to dip new corals in for flatworms before adding them into your tank? I am very careful to examine all corals before I add them to my tank but I recently bought a couple of new zoo frags that apparently had one or eggs or something I missed because now there are quit a few! I know flat worms are always a problem people have so I may just buy a velvet nudibranch in the upcoming future and make him a club pet. So when its done in my tank I'll pass it on to the next victim and so on. When hes done with the PNWMAS I will pass him to another club if I need to so he will always have food!!!!
  21. more tank shots Here is pretty good full tank shot.... Plus more coral shots.
  22. notes I am going to go try to get a better full tank shot. Now keep in mind I am using a 400watt MH I think its a 15 or 18 k bulb! The lighting has not been any trouble for me and though the heat level is pretty high, as long as I watch it I seem to be fine. I do not think a 400watt MH is over kill for a 29gallon tank at all!!!!! I am probably the first 1 dumb enough to try it but I hope I am not the last. As my tank shows you cannot have to much light.........In most cases(naughty)
  23. and more of my reef these are also in the POTM.
  24. And some more My little seahorse oasis..........
  25. I am working on getting some better shots but to give you all an idea of what I have I thought I would get some posted on here finally!!! Sorry about the quality of some of them I am playing with the camera trying to get the best shots through the glass. Anyway here they are:
