  1. Rose City Aquarium I want to post about my experience at Rose City tonight. First of all yes the dogs were there at the shop but Nick however they were in the back room. They did not apear to me to be aggressive. I talked to Nick about the concerns of the dogs and he is taking into consideration the concerns of the 1 person who felt threatened by them. IMO Nick seemed to be a very reasonable and responsible guy, and to the person who felt threatened, I really think you should stop in there again and talk to him. We also talked for a while about the tanks and some of the livestock he has had for a long time including the giant clams. He also explained to me about the livestock he lost due to the neglect of responsibilities by a former employee. Which I am sure has a lot to due with dirty tanks too. However nowhere was there a coral I could not see due to dirty front glass. I hope you do plan to visit if you have had second thoughts due this thread. As far as tanks being dirty I think those who do not know should know that Nick is also in the process of doing some remodeling to the back room of the store to turn it into a freshwater area, then will be expanding the saltwater to include the corner where the freshwater is currently. I am sure this is taking a lot of his time! Thanks Nick for the enjoyable visit and I hope you enjoy my seahorses!
  2. Seahorses Sold Thanks Nick at Rose city Aquarium, Hope you enjoy them!
  3. You do not want to have just 1 seahorse anyway..... Seahorses are social creature and prefer to be in the company of other seahorses. I have had a seahorse singley in a tank before and he got very depressed and just hid in a corner, hardly eating. I also tried to put a pregnant male in a tank alone a week or so before he should give birth and he aborted the pregnancy. So if you ever plan to have seahorses in the future I really recommend that you have at leased a pair so they can have company. If you want to have your wife interested in your tank try taking her a LFS and letting her pick out a coral, that way she is involved in the livestock....... Just a suggesion........
  4. Zoos I had some problems with zoos a while back too, they were great and then they started doing the same as yours! The only thing that changed with mine was the addition of rock.... Then after loosing a lot of the colors of zoos I loved so much, I found the culprit!!!! There in a zoo eating nudibranch..... Hard to see and a sneaky little sob too, mainly coming out at night in my experience. They are quit small and tend to be between brown and orange in color. Look carfully at your zoos for any abnormalities, they actually resemble a zoo in a way.they sort of seem to have tentalces like a zoo on their back. I did not dip any rock or coral when I bought it but I am sure to do it now! Live and Learn!!! I hop for the best for you, and that is a beautiful tank:)
  5. You do not want to have seahorses around anemones. the problem is that they use their tails to grab onto things and they would try to grab the tentacles causing a sting. They also do not do well with corals that have tentacles, frogspawn, toadstools, many LPS.......
  6. Seahorses Yes seahorses can be in a reef tank, and mine have always been at temp of about 78`F and are used to being with coral. Seahorses are pending on a sale.........
  7. A friend of mine, Bob who opened the store in Aloha for a while, Had some Bar Gobies who layed eggs! He said one looked like a female guppy about to pop then he found a huge gray lump on the back side of the rock that is definatly a huge cluster of eggs, the same day the goby got skinny again! He is going to try raising them like clowns and see what happens. Any suggestions would be great! he could not even find out what thier gestation period is....... Thanks
  8. Rose City Aquarium I think everybody here should be ashamed for attacking someone who just started posting on here. Everyone is entitled to their opinion good or bad! The fact that it was bad does not mean he should not post it on here! If you carefully read the post then you would know he id not say anything except that the tanks were dirty and he was concerned about the dogs being aggressive. Just because the dogs were nice to everybody else does not mean that they did not growl and bark at him and his family. I am a dog person and have owned dogs of all shapes and sized since birth. Dogs can act protective around one particular person for no apparent reason and if he felt he had reason to fear for his family then this should be taken into consideration by the business owner. Just because a dog is perfectly friendly to all but one person who may come into your store you need to think about that. As for the tanks being dirty if you have a tank multiply the care by 500 and then you have a store, they are not always going to be clean you may have caught them the day before they cleaned or something. If you are trying to get a good look at something ask them to clean the glass so you can see it or ask if you can do it yourself....... I shop at a lot of the stores around the portland area and I cannot name a single one who is clean ALL the time! Some are better than others but you need to think about the economy and the fact that the fish industry is not doing well right now as a whole and Rose City May/May NOT be able to afford to employ enough people to keep their stores clean all the time!!!! I personally have had both good and bad experience with Rose City so I do feel like a person in the middle. I am glad that it was posted on here about the dogs, if someone is afraid of dogs this is a good point! I for one will continue to shop their but I will be more cauious when I do shop their with my children! I should add I have not been there in a while...... But will be going this week and will add to this post about my expereience there. Thank You for reading
  9. I have a brand new Koralia 4 I got as a gift and its too much flow! Anyway I am wondering if someone has a Koralia 3, 2 or even a couple of 1's they would like to trade for. I am not sure where it was bought but I put it in the tank and turned it on and it was just blasting everything a little to much and messing with the outgoing flow causing the water level to rise in my main tank...... A problem I need to fix but I would rather have a couple of smaller powerheads pointing in more directions anyway. If they work let me know what you got!!! Thanks Amanda
  10. Pics Sorry not the best pics!
  11. These are tank raised! I know I have raised them since birth! They are Hippocampus Erectus. The parents were bought by someone else online from www.seahorse.com and they are sold as "Sunbursts" for $400 per pair.(nutty) I do not want to have to sell these however if I can find someone with more time to give them the proper care they need I would let them go for $50 each obo. I am 90% sure there is 2 females and 3 males, and I am pretty sure that 1 of the males is now pregnant! There color is not as bright as it usually is but I do not have much in the tank with color. If you have them in a tank with bright real or fake color they are incredibly bright colors going from yellow to deep orange. Like I said I do not really want to sell these but due to my work schedule and my kids if I can find someone who will give them a good home I would feel much better. I also need the cash, but I may consider partial trade for a single ended halide pendant for my 400 watt, or maybe some nice coral/rock. I do not have a computer so please call me if you are interested and make sure to leave a message so I can get back to you. 503-679-5183. I wanted to give you all here in the club first dibs then the may go to RC or craigslist. Thanks Amanda
  12. Hollywood Aquarium I do want to be more clear about it, though Hollywood is not my first choice or second for that matter They do have a ok selection of overall healthy stock to what I have seen. Though the employee did not seem to be as knowledgable as I ffel he should have been working in an aquarium store. He was not the idiot in this case and did not say much to the person about the wrongs he was doing he did state that was a very over loaded tank and would probably even be to much for a 55 gallon tank before long even if they are small now. I definatly do not think that Hollywood was the place that sold him the fish. He seemed more like a "PETCO" sort of guy(scratch). (whistle)I would also like to take this time and wish the fish a quick death maybe with some flying lesson to go along with it if they would accept that.:p(fingers)
  13. So I was over at Hollywood Aquarium the other day just checking things out since I had a few minutes of my lunch time to kill. I like to over hear newby questions to store employees to see how they respond and find out who is really knowledgable and who likes to talk big to make sales. The customer was having some trould with Cyno and asked for some options for a cleaner crew since he has a HUMAHUMA trigger fish....... The employee did not really answer so I offered some knowledge of experience, and told him basics. First clean out what you can then increase flow and o2. Then he said he couldn't really add much more flow cause its only a 10 GALLON TANK!!!! WITH A HUMAHUMA!!!! So calmly I asked him if he knew how big they get and if he knew that it was probably already way to big for his tank, and he just said I know if he gets to big I'll trade him off. Then he said he had a bunch of hair algea on his rock and stuff and wanted something that would eat it. Then before me or the employee could answer he added that he also had a young LION FISH IN THE !) GALLON WITH THE HUMAHUMA!!!!!!! I about dropped to the floor. I makes me so frustrated at the way some people can be so nuronic when it comes to their pets. If more people would just take a little time and do some research about a pet before they buy it whatever it is then things would be a lot easier on the natural balance thats for sure!!!!! Our reefs would be better of and we would not have shelters to the max with dogs and cats!!!!! OK sorry the grip setion but I had to get it out....... Thanks for listening:D

  21. Cutting Floridas I cut a bunch of the florida ricordias I bought from Joel a while ago and the are doing great! Healed over fast and attached to rocks quickly! I mounted them all on 1 big rock for a rainbow of ricordia and they 1-2 are even starting to bud after just 2 mths attached to the main rock!!! He has got a rainbow of colors there at waves and they are great quality! $20 per ricordia rock I have bought them from him with as many as 5 mouths on 1 polyp........cut,cut,cut(plotting)

Has sand, lots of LR-nice show pieces!, a bunch of different soft corals-TONS of RED MUSHROOMS!!! 30-40+, Macro Algae-several types! This tank has been up and running for a long time and was used in the past for seahorses. Right now there are 3 occelaris clowns but I can also add almost any type of fish you want to the tank before or after its moved! Included in the price! Nice purple tangs available now!!!!! This tank has always been stable and I have usually just done 10-15 gallon water changes on it every 3-4 weeks. Obviously the more its stocked the more frequent the water changes would be though..... Right now I am taking $600 OBO I will try to get some pics on here today if I can but if you would like to take a look at it let me know......... Thanks I am selling this tank for a friend, I am usually the 1 who takes care of it though!
  23. New Tank If you go by water volume I am not moving up, just condensing a couple tanks into 1 bigger 1! I am tired of water changes on all the tanks and would like to hopfully get some fish that are not nano sized! I have a bunch of coral frags I can throw in for a trade as well I want to frag off a lot of what I have to make some room for some new stuff in the new tank.... I have some nice colored zoos!!!! I might also throw in a really good sized green bubble tip anemone, hes good and rarly moves around the tank! I also have a blood shrimp, and a few other softies and shroom and some nice blue ricordias with purple fringe that are already attached to small pieces of rock so easy to mount and ready for a new tank!!! Just let me know what you got!!!! I just need tank (glass or acrylic) and stand between 55-75 gal drilled, close loop or with internal overflow better....... I can give about $100-125 cash and trade for some frags or anemone if you like. Thanks
  24. I have someone trading me a 65gall tall tank, but its not drilled and there is no stand for it. So I thought I would see if anyone has a tank between 55 and 75 gals tall, long, or cube, that I would not have to mess with. I would rather a rectangle. I need it drilled for closed loop or with a built in overflow, does not have to be plumed though. Do not need canopy, just the stand with it. I would prefer as few scratches as possible but I know they happen. I can do a little work on the seals if it is leaking but do not want to if I do not have to. I need to try to stay around $100. So if you have a tank and stand between 55 and 75 gals for about $100 let me know asap! Thanks
