  1. You wont be disappointed... I can assure you that!
  2. ATI! Both their bulbs and fixtures
  3. You can buy 100 micron mesh socks if you know where to look, I think BRS only sells the 200
  4. I have used them... but didn't change them as much as I should have because they are such PIA to clean.... that was until I purchased some of the nylon MESH kind instead of the felt! They are SO easy to clean and I will be using more of them
  5. no problem, just let me know when
  6. +1 and they have had some rare stuff in lately. I picked up a blue gigantae anenome and a red headed wrasse (Halichoeres rubricephalus) that I hadn't ever seen in any of the other stores!
  7. You remember mammalian physiology lab right? Open him up and see doc!
  8. Thumbs up from me also. Just recently my 3&1/2 year old marlin started to have startup problems and get noisy. I took it apart to try to clean it and for the life of me I couldn't get the impeller off of the shaft to clean it thoroughly. I emailed chris at reeflo and he said that my warrenty was "borderline" (meaning there really wasn't any) and that he would sell me an entire new pump for 199 shipped (this pump sells for like 450 new!). Then he says just send your old one back and we will refurb it free of charge and send it back so you will now have 2 pumps, one as a backup! Can't beat this kind of service... anytime I get a small leak from the seals on my multiple reeflo pumps I just send off an email and they send new ones out for free!
  9. Chicken! Do you want me to do the math for you and make a chart? No thanks but I will call you when you when your amoxicillin dose for that 3 year old is too high
  10. The best alk testing is doing your own acid titration down to a ph of 4.2, super accurate and super cheap because you have to buy the acid by the gallon so you will have enough for years of use . Initial investment is a ph meter and the gallon of acid...good for years of testing! here is a clip from rc chemistry guys I know this seems a little "geeky" at first and difficult but it really is not... It takes about a minute to perform and if you do all the calculations and make a chart ( xml used = 10dkh and so on) it makes it very easy with NO math. If anyone would like to see how this is done you are welcome to come to my place and I can show you.
  11. I have found the hanna low range photometers are pretty good about testing phosphate levels within a +-0.04 accuracy or so. My tank has never had a phosphate problem (luckily) and usually runs about 0.01-0.02 even without GFO. Maybe the pellets and the carbon dosing is keeping it in check but even before I stared these I had stopped using any GFO
  12. using them for about 4 months now... haven't really seen any real response. I have started to dose vodka/vinegar also now to see if that will help get things started. Mike
  13. glad you got it dan... I was trying to resist!
  14. I agree, TM pro was the best salt I have ever used... mix some up and you will see, instantly crystal clear.... not sure it was worth the money though, especially in a big system so I am now using reef crystals and am having good results. It mixes up kinda dirty but my corals dont seem to mind
  15. I would lean towards velvet also... the only thing besides lack of oxygen that would kill that fast
  16. My mad is not so much a GRRRRR (flame) as a MUWHAHAHAH HA HA HA HAAAAA (mad scientist laugh)
  17. Did you do any QT procedure? I have quite a few angels and almost all of them come in with parasites, usually flukes. I treat all my new incoming fish with prazipro.
  18. I know, during the winters in pullman while I was back in college, I would run circles around my friends in 4 wheel drive trucks.
  19. i would use 2 ATI blue plus, 1 ATI aquablue special, and 1 kz fiji purple or ATI purple plus. a great 15K look that will still have great par!
  20. I had a 00 subra impreza 2.5RS and put over 120k miles on. It ran great and still did when I sold it. If you are ever in the snow these cars are fabulous. Just enough power to be fun, not enough power to be dangerous.
  21. I have a radiant wrasse that will stay in the sand for a week at a time. Each time I assume he is dead but then all of a sudden a week later he is swimming around like nothing happend! Give it some time.
  22. I am using cree 3 watt leds (24 of them) to supplement my T5 lighting. When I switched from metal halide I found that I missed the shimmer, so I flanked the T5s with the crees. LEDs are great because you can dim them, put optics on them, and really tweak the color/spread of them. They are really new though... and many people who are using them as a sole method of lighting are finding some colors are easy to keep, and some others not so much. They believe that this is because of the very narrow spectrum these bulbs produce. The newer fixtures being produced are using both the royal and standard blue leds AND the warm white and cool white leds. These seem to be able to produce more colors. There are some great threads over on RC about LEDs in the DIY section if you have a few months to read them
  23. keep in mind that clam is less than 2" and will probably need supplemental feeding until it is larger and able to support itself
  24. I don't think you can go wrong with either of them... I have the bb on my super octopus xp5000 and you definitely can hear it because it is external, but it is in my garage below the tank so no worries here. I have been to Dan's house where he is running the askoll and I can attest to the silence of this pump!
