  1. get a before and after picture!!!
  2. From my experience with cyano or red slime removing product, I have had bad side effects. I recommend putting an air stone in the tank or sump. Those product have been known to reduce oxygen level in tanks. Now I just remove as much through siphon and frequent water changes. And now I added a UV to my tank. Good luck.

    DIY Chiller

Here's another link for DIY chiller. http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48798 I'm all for DIY stuff, but there are limits to what we can do. Don't make it look like this. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb276/baack1/redneck-mansion1.jpg

    Check these out

That's almost as expensive as his Huge Tyree LE Bubblegum Monster Colony http://www.coral2sell.com/Listing?id=487 Could just get this coral and 2 of the polyps.. and they should be super rare since you are not allow to collect or sell corals from Hawaii.

    DIY Chiller

why not just go buy one. The money you save in material will just go towards electricity in running the fridge. Unless you use same quality material as the non-DIY chiller, the efficency of the system will be less. To me, it almost like trying to make ice cubes in your refrigerator in the same amount of time as a freezer. Just my thought.
  6. nice... makes a good water holding tank if the price is right??? so have you decided on what you want?

    my cortez sting ray

that's sad... i like sting rays... wanted a blue spot, but heard they are hard to get to eat frozen food

    my cortez sting ray

Aside from what Ryan said.. sting rays are not big on fish trying to clean them. I have 2 freshwater sting rays and they do like being pet, but do not like it when any fish is near them. Unless they are edible.
  10. nah... glad to hear your kids are getting into the hobby with you. My kids wanted a tank in their room and I tried that for awhile and finally had to give it up. I didn't have time to maintenance their tanks so I consolidated their tanks and took it out of their room. Now that their tank is getting fed, they are more into it. I only have one saltwater tank and one thing it does is teach my kids what kind of fishes are compatible in a reef environment.
  11. Welcome Jurissah... maybe we'll bump into each other at Westside. He's close to my work so I try to stop by often. It is very different here in the states, unless you have a cold water tank and live by the coast. Plus, the corals are much more colorful in the states.
  12. agree with the filtration... don't skimp on the filtration.. if you want colorful healthy corals, they will need excellent water quality.
  13. mountain biking. Actually Kim was good with responding through PM. It just didn't fit what I was looking for.
  14. why is she still dating him??? that part gets me... be done with the dip ship and move on... plenty of fish in the sea!!!
  15. my only complaint is I keep having to take out my CC to buy new stuff... stop it Tim.. What time are you getting the corals this week?
  16. I have 2 1" SS in my tank and using a Dolphin 3000/4000 as the return pump. The only thing I don't like about them are the motors they put in them. I had my motor go out after 2 years of usage. I have replaced the motor with an industrial grade motor and have been working for the past 6 years. Only downside to the industrial grade motor is it runs a little loud, but not noticible.
  17. Has anyone locally here used a zero waste system? Wonder how long do the membranes last? Water is cheaper than the filters. Not saying I like to waste water.
  18. I have the Air, Water, and Ice and Pure Water Club RO/DI units. Have also dismantled other units to put them together. RO/DI units are all built the same. The only difference are their features, such as clear canister vs. white, type of hook up available. Personally, if you are comfortable with working on the unit, then I would just get a cheap unit that meets your needs (i.. 90 gpd) and you can upgrade from there. I just upgraded all my units to 150 gpd and now get about 600 gpd together. Granted, I'm not getting that much, but it can fill my 30 gal can in 1.5 hours. A flush can be easily built with parts from Home Depot. It's basically a by-pass that allows the waste water to go around the flow restrictor. Hard plumb vs. Garden hose... depending on your needs and how much water lose you get from your Garden hose. If you have more than 45 PSI at your garden hose, you are good. If you need to move the unit around, then garden hose.. if not, then hard plumb it. I have mine hard plumb to my pipes under the bathroom sink. HTH
  19. if you can take the rock out, you can hang the anemone upside down and keep the tenticle tips just above the water (kinda touching the water too) and the rose should slow start to release the rock. It's always worked for me.. you may have to give it a little start, but has always been successful. Good luck.
  20. mltnguyen, you are just expressing your feelings. I see this a lot from news like this. It's a shame, but what bothers me more is hobbyist saying they should do things like this. Well, it's a supply and demand issue. We demand, they supply. It's good these types of problems are exposed in the media or nothing will ever get done. Agree that what ever the outcome is, it will be good for the industry. Plus, you can't punish the person if there are no rules. Can a police pull you over for speeding if there are no posted speed sign or Driver's Manual that specifies what a deem speed limit is for certain type of roads? I'm sure if the tidepools along the Oregon coast was not protected, there will be many hobbyist who is willing to try cold water tank, or not.
  21. wow is all I can say.. and laying the fish out there on the road to see the amount of damage amazes me.. but who gets to go back and collect the dead fish off the road? hmmm Think they need to put a limit on how many fish of each type can be collected by collectors to reduce the damage when there is an equipment failure. But to be mad, angry, or whatever is to get out of this hobby. Everyone that has a tank at home contributes to the ocean's well being. Basically put restrictions or limitations on collectors as they do with fishermen. Until that happens, it'll be disaster after disaster.
  22. that unit is small, but the problem you will have is shorten life span of your RO membrane. The sediment and carbon help removed lots of impurities before the water gets to your RO membrane. But will work.
  23. they make adapters that you can hook up to your facet and pull a small tab to divert water to the RO unit. http://www.airwaterice.com/product/FAUCETADAPTOR/Faucet-Adaptor.html
  24. If you want a great supply of high end plumbing parts, you can try: Harrington Plastics in Tigard by Lowes - www.harringtonplastics.com and Ferguson Plumbing - There's one in Beaverton and Hillsboro http://www.ferguson.com/index.shtml I bought all my Sch 80 and Sch 40 gray pipes from them. And all my Spears Union ball valves.
