  1. When I used to ship corals, I only used FedEx due to their excellent tracking system. USPS tracking system sucks dog and UPS is finally getting their act together. FedEx gave me a peace of mind due to their excellent tracking system. Rather know where my package is than somewhere in the US. Plus they have great customer service!
  2. why convert??? Just own both. Have a reef tank and a freshwater sting ray tank.
  3. and you didn't even say a word yesterday... Happy Birthday!!!! Would have just gave you the scoly... (um NOT!).
  4. The Wet Spot in Hollywood have one in their bathroom. they used to have freshwater fish in it.
  5. I would send the pic to Neptune Sys. There might be an underlying problem that you are not seeing.
  6. PM Lowman. But the salt is popular and not cheap anywhere. This maybe a once in a long time deal... or maybe the last time we have this deal. I'm stocking up for the year is all I can say.
  7. But I also understand that it is hard to buy good equipments to have it sit in the shop. Every location's market is different with the amount of money local reefers can spend on their equipment. IMO, if a LFS want to be successful, they have to extend their business to the internet and capture the buyers out there. You can't rely on the local market to become successful. It's a very specialize hobby and market to keep it fully local.
  8. For livestocks, I prefer to see the specimen before buying it. As for drygoods, it's more of availability locally and price. If the local price a little more, then I'll just buy it locally. But if it's 2x more then I'll seek online. And also how bad do I need it. But many times I would buy it on-line and just have it ship to my house to avoid having to drive around all weekend to find a part. But then I'll do my research online on the product before buying it and not go to a LFS and ask about a certain item. I have also heard from some LFS that they can match online price and shipping cost and get it for me. But then will you deliver it to my house like UPS or FedEx or reimburse me for my gas to get to you? Seriously, if you can do that, I can buy it online too. But do agree that going to a LFS to ask questions on equipment and then buying it online to save the cost is not a good practice. I don't like wasting LFS owner/employee's time and then having them not get the sale. It sucks for them. But on the flip side, I don't see many LFS carrying quality equipments. Many look like DIY eqiupments and if I'm paying hundreds of $$$ on a piece of equipment, it should look like I did. There was a post by someone saying may LFS can post their stuff online so we can see who has what? that would certainly help me buy my stuff locally. I rather not drive to 2 or 3 stores to find no one has the drygood I'm looking for and then ending up buying it online. Saying you can get it for the same price is not good enough. My weekend time is limited and I don't have time to drive all over town shopping for my tank stuff. Now I just buy extra of what I need and call it good. here's an example. I used to buy Oceanic salt from a LFS for a decent price. And I would buy 10 buckets at a time to get the discount. Then I find That Fish Place sold it cheaper and with a $6.99 shipping rate and ship to my house, how can I say no to that. Yes, I had 10 buckets shipped to my house for $6.99. And yes, I will buy it for the price and convinience. So there you go.
  9. just 11 more to go!!! The price is the lowest by far. C'mon folks... jump in now and save on the salt.
  10. Robert, Thanks for the cheatos. It was more than I was expecting and was nice to look through your setup. Your display tank was very clean... have to get busy with mine now. Thanks again for being flexible with your time. Will have to get together again. Jim
  11. share the love... I am also starting up a refugium... but where are you located?
  12. i tried the peps but not sure who ate all of them...
  13. Just curious where this salt purchase is going? Depending on timeframe, I maybe in for a large quantity as I like to just stop up. Bought 10 buckets from That Fish Place and burned through half alread. Like my water changes. :0
  14. when I do scrap the aiptasia off the rocks, I do it outside the tank and also scrap the underlying rock surface so there are no residue.. have worked for the past 10 years. So far it hasn't been an epidemic, but prefer to keep it under control now than later. slow eater huh???
  15. I heard that about file fish, but I can't risk having a fish go after my sps... it's already hard enough trying to catch one fish. Randy, I'm game.. but how much is shipping? I found a site that sold each for $14.99, but the shipping was $40.40. I was going to order 2, but given the total would be close to $40 each.. no freaking way.. I'll take my rocks out first.
  16. dang it.. everything I read (of course they came from the sellers) says they are the most affective ones.. I have about 10 that I can see and want to eradicate them. I've tried injection, peppermint shrimp, and copperband butterfly without any luck. The only way is to get the rock out and scrap it off, but some of the rocks will require removal of other rocks which I rather not have to do. Want to save that as my last option.
  17. Any one or store have berghia nudibranch?
  18. Maybe Tim on the west side can get it. Only picking on him becuase I don't want to drive across town..
  19. where was the picture taken? Wish you are located on Maui.
  20. if you are going to keep a shark, I would recommend nothing smaller than 500g and with that you are still limited to certain sharks. I think when I was looking into this, there was one shark that only gets to 3 ft. long. And wasn't easy to find, but then again, I could have an empty tank with a shark or a reef tank. I took the reef. My concern was more of a long term care for the shark and not just to keep it a couple of years and have it die. Check with LFS. I think a couple of the stores do maintenance a couple of tanks with Sharks. But I believe they are 750g or larger tanks. With Rays.. I wanted to keep a blue spotted ray as they are the most color ray, but read it was hard to get them to eat in captivity. I do have 2 freshwater rays that eat krills. I had a freshwater ray that basically starved himself to death.. Couldn't get him to eat live or frozen food. BUt if you do venture into either, make sure you see the specimen eat at the LFS before buying it. I wouldn't buy it mail order mainly because you don't know if the shark or ray will eat in captivity. And local aquariums (Oregon Coast Aquarium) may not take the shark if it gets too big. It's your responsibility to find it a home.
  21. I have 7 right now and would love to get a Black Maxima.
  22. I'm currently using Oceanic, but going to switch after I get down to my last 2 buckets. The Oceanic is high in CA, ALK, and Mg. My levels are through the roof when I do a water change. Maybe I just need more SPS to help with the level.
  23. Do you have pics of the frogspawn and hammer? Is that price for both? If I do get the corals, then will be interested in the phyto too. Is the mandarin eating frozen? Thanks Jim
