  1. Those are nice pieces, he sat up in the far right corner of your tank?
  2. Thats a really nice rock wall, I didnt have any rubble so Im trying the coralline explosion
  3. PM sent , sorry for late response ISP went down 15 minutes after they left til moday for Christmas!!!!
  4. Were you pushing it down and it shot out and hit your rib? I know I kept thinking to myself, "If you let go, its not gonna be good!"
  5. Other than buying some large corals....... Is there certain types of coral that chow through calcium moreso than others? My calcium is always high, but Magnesium is always a struggle to keep elevated without dosing. I have a calcium reactor and a Kalk reactor, the Kalk reactor keeps the pH up around 8.2-8.3 and the Calcium reactor keeps the Alk stable but it seems if I shut either down those 2 elements drop. What uses magnesium in a system, I must have alot of it?
  6. How old is the setup? It seems to me most tanks go through this at some point, most definately if they get real sunlight at all. Ive never really paid attention to whats happening or what stage the aquariums at when it hits but it seems like its a couple months after the cycle and before large groups of clean up crews/fish are in the tank for over 6 months. My latest setup is the first time I havent had it happen. Just grab a Mag float http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=4083 and take 20 seconds to clean it off and it will go away at some point.
  7. Yep, seen a couple that looked amazing, at first, then the cyno outbreak or algae explosion happens and youre stuck with a month of brown splotchy wall or algae that just cant be gotten rid of with ease while it smothers your frags and figured what the heck, Ill go for a couple shots of Purple up and hopefully bypass straight to coralline. Its worked before on smoother blackish surfaces almost like a magnet. With sand or rock its a 50-50 chance the corallines will pop fast, I seeded areas with some busted rock, hope it works
  8. At first I left the eggcrate shelves foamless and sort of wished I had kept it that way, I have strong current and the shelves are slightly slippery. that or rub some sand on them, Im going to glue spikes on my frag bottoms if they blow off any more. I think theyre all staying as of now though
  9. Also it depends on how big your frag shelves stick out and how thick they are, heres a picture sort of from the side to try and give you a perspective, sort of a bad picture my Dual 454s were on so..........
  10. yeah if you decide to try this with a classroom maybe we could hook up or I could help out so you dont waste alot of money on foam, I wish I could have watched myself towards the end before I started..........probably would hav saved $26 and had clean hands, legs, toes, Hotwater heater room floor
  11. The stuff I used is very expensive, $13 a can at Home Depot. Great Stuff is considerably cheaper but you have to paint it or epoxy it. I think I saw where Krylon Fusion paint is reef safe..........I didnt want to take a chance
  12. I used Beckett Pond Foam ( its blackish and some guy on reefcentral had it in his tank for 2 years with no degredation) Usually after about 5-10 minutes you can lightly touch it and see if its "skinned" then lightly start to squeeze and keep squeezing if it isnt oozing out. Im impatient and got it all over me because I was trying to do too much fast. Once you get wet stuff on your hands it sticks to everything but water seems to harden it fast so just rinse hands if it gets on you. There is a point of no return, Im betting its a 1/2 hour I squeezed quite a few paper thin "plates" everywhere and an hour later they were 1/8" thick, as you squeeze it flat, sometimes twist it in the middle, push it up, maybe down, just be very random and let some very small beads just dry naturally, they look like tube worms
  13. There may have been fumes but I didnt notice any headache or dizziness and was in a confined space ( Hotwater heater room under stairs incase I exploded a can, or dripped it all over) I would spread out some wax paper incase someone goes nuts and lets the foam rip, it comes out very fast and large if you dont watch it. Different pressures on the trigger make slightly different sized beads along with rate of moving the bead along the eggcrate. If you have a small oscillating fan and a large room I doubt kids would get too high off the fumes! Just kidding, maybe do it outside on a nice day if concerned.
  14. I got it, it had some i653 befor the photobucket and I copy and pasted and removed that and it showed up..........Looks AWESOME, how you keep it in the tank?
  15. After figuring out how to make it not look like foam, I wanted to go crazy and do the same but......... When I was in Army scuba school in the Sinai we did all our diving in the Red Sea and my favorite place to go was called "the Columns", it was hundreds of columns of reef that were hundreds of feet tall. Id like to duplicte this to an extent but it would probably rip the top frame right off the aquarium
  16. The wife said it looked like an alien abortion when I was making the first panel, after looking at it and agreeing it looked like the stuff in the movie " Aliens" in the "Mothers birthing room" all over the walls, it made me try to get crazier and crazier trying to form it and mess it up, you can tell what panels were first, second, third and forth by the amount of detail they have.
  17. Overflows work great because I dropped it dow 1" as it goes across the fronts of them, and with the multiple vents in the overflows towards middle and bottom Im betting good flow behind there since they themselves are curved and my eggcrate is not. Behind the back, I doubt the flow is good. I was originally going to snake some 1/4" tubing behind there and drill 1/16" holes every foot and tap that into return line. Unfortunately I completely spaced this off but it isnt a snug fit tight against the back so Im guessing some water exchange has to be occuring with all the holes that go completely through and the amount of current in the tank. After daily vodka and MB7 its alittle clearer picture you cansee the brighter " holes from the light leaking through room behind
