  1. I have no troubles at all with the Kalk reactor/top off clogging but the CA reactor is a pain in the rear but I have a valve on the end of it and its one of those 1/4" plastic one from Lowes/Home Depot, they arent the best for trying to drip and not clog. I dont think the Kalk can clog because I stir around 7 am and it tops off at 10PM and Midnight, the water is still above 9ph but the kalk has settled many hours earlier
  2. My top off is through a Kalkreactor only, the 1/4" line out of the RO/DI runs into the Kalkreactor and then out to the tank. Yes the reactor stirs the kalk using a timer that turns on its pump, this is in the early morning so it has all day to settle not dumping stirred kalk into the tank.
  3. I use a kalkreactor and my PH stays at 8.3, if I dont use one it dips down to 7.9 The lowest I ever see my ph is 8.2, I also top off with the Kalkreactor at 9pm and again at midnight using this hooked to my Ro/DI I also use a CA reactor, moreso for Alk than calcium which I always have plenty
  4. If Brightwell is low in calcium Id gladly trade an un-open brand new Kent for a 5 Gallon Brightwell.....I would make up difference in cost if there was some too!
  5. That site is great, it where I got my $350 Vortech MP40, thats a $70 savings
  6. I bought an Vortech mp40, got it on a Friday..............and ordered another one on Monday after seeing how amazing it was
  7. jgf86123 was the only one interested in a foam background correct? He's not going to make the meeting so no need to mess with anything foam right?
  8. what thickness is the acrylic? How many scratches, you said you have buffed out some of the scratches?
  9. jgf86123, check your PMs and call me if you want a foam wall, need to figure out who got what (eggcrate/foam/zipties/whatever)
  10. Played everything since Doom and Wolfenstien, and every console..........Counterstrike,,,etc. etc. WoW, Warhammer, Got to 42 in Aion and just got bored to death, havent logged in a month. Mainly CoD on the 360 now and even thats getting old.
  11. Weekly, bi weekly, monthly and percentage of entire system. How many fish do you have? Do your current schedules show vast improvement of what you did before and what was that? I do 30 gal weekly in 185 gallons, thinking so far so good. Did very few the first 4 months and ramped up to 30 gal a week after about 6 months old. I have 3 fish and lots of clean up crew, plus 6 fairly large shrimp. I feel I feed heavy
  12. Id get a Vortech mp10 and be done with it..........any speed any power and wave variation imaginable, reef crest mode, lagoon mode , feed mode , automatic night mode. Im so done with koralias
  13. Yeah dont run Kalk with an 8.8 ph, I use Kalk in topoff to keep mine at 8.3 from a 7.9 out of RO/DI make up water. When I do water changes I have to fill my container via the Kalk reactor to get it to 8.2. The ph of my water coming out of my kalk topoff is 9.0 I use a hannah ph tester and I find it pretty much in line whith the 2 other ph kits I have as part of other tests. Did you ever tell us if it was slow death......one piece at a time.........all at once, a couple here, a couple there. I have a foxface Im about to kill and enjoy doing it, I caught him killing corals, he picked at a monti ...poof a day later its turning white, once it was gone he started to pick at the biggest peice I had and sure enough 2 days later its gone, I see him picking at everything in the tank now. I am trying seaweed to try and keep him happy but the yellow tang just rips it off and it floats aroung for fun and games for a few seconds. seriously thinking of getting rid of all fish, everyone I have got this time around is crap.
  14. Another thing to consider , but may not be relevent to this discussion is the subject of Dyed corals. I have a friend in Florida that has a 1K gallon tank and he knows a seller that has different tanks he runs some sort of dye in and produces the most amazing looking corals.........for a couple weeks and then they bleach out and you just "take them back" and in a couple weeks you get your colorful coral back. I had never heard of this and told him he was full of it and he said hes been buying dyed corals for 10 years now and its alot more prevelant up and down the east coast than you would think. He said if you can get a non dyed coral in New York its abnormal. I found this weird, he said hes been in several "Dye rooms" where theres every color in the rainbow in different tanks with certain types of corals
  15. Not sure how old yours is but Ehiem have a 2 year warranty and even though they look like you cant get to the impellers, you actually can.
  16. I put mine about 5" down to the top of the mp40, Im really loving this thing all sps has majoe extension of polyps, everything in the tank is lovin it.
  17. By the way I had a place email me he was selling the MP40s for $355 shipped, thats a substaintial savings, wish he had emailed me sooner. I think he has 2 left, Im probably grabbing 1 more at that price. If anyones interested I can see if he can get more
  18. The bigger green bodied one? The one thats like $175 at Petco and about 18" tall and 8" across? EDIT you have the square one right? I have a rather large round one
  19. Its pretty amazing, it may be the one thing I have purchased where I saw instant results. Infact I saw things Ive never seen before, every softie in the tank grew to almost scary sizes within 5 minutes of running it and playing with it for 2 straight hours. To be completely amazing I would think I need one at each end, while theres still movement and can still make a 1" wave, I think 6' is just beyond its power. Then again, theres current, it just a weird current but the undertow on these things is something I still dont understand but it covers the entire tank and starts heading upwards at around the midpoint pulling everything in the tank out of every crevice. It made a considerable mess sucking clean the whole tank. Its too powerfull right above and in front because the overflow and foam back, I need to find what likes really aggresive current and strap it down in that area. I would compare the flow to grabbing a dinner plater sticking it in the tank and sweeping it half way across.
  20. Went with the Vortech mp40w, got a great deal with free 2 day so I will see if it works as advertised. I didnt realise they had an automatic night-mode built in and once I called them and got their 1 hour sales job, I couldnt resist. Supposedly they gave all the controller manufacturers developtment kits and so are aggressively pursuing the further control of these pumps. Supposedly you will be able to use all modes throughout the day, or any combination as well as dial in the pulse modes.
  21. If the Vortech Wireless driver holds its settings, you could get two and do some good stuff with a day/night timer where the power is on one driver, then switches over to the other at night and you could have them overlap for a couple minutes and achieve a good tank cleaning twice a day as well. It would be the same price as a Tunze with 2 pumps and controller, around $840
