  1. That I could probably handle, not sure why I never got into the beer thing.........too many games of quarters as a kid maybe. Might be I was stationed in Kentucky in the service and Jack Daniels was cheap as water on post
  2. Its all about the Whiskey.............and theres only one in that category, 8 Seconds.......yum, yum and dangerous
  3. I tried to do years of research by finding threads on multiple forums about the subject that had went for years. I found several, I wish I could find the one that started back in 04 or 05 and link it. It had very limited " Hey Dudes is Absolute better because it costs more" when a thread appeared headed in that direction, I would find another until I found what appeared to be people with some sort of degree in chemistry (or maybe just an amazing knowledge of this VsV) adding to the thread. I even asked some question on here in my own thread which I felt were never truly answered ANYWHERE. And I still believe we may be stepping on ice when doing the VSV Dosing just because alot of varibles never came up in discussions. I did do a couple googles this morning on " problems with vsv dosing" , "troubles with vsv dosing" and the likes and really found nothing yet again, well actually I did, I found a thread where a guy talks about clams and dosing, he went 2 months with clams and the thread stopped so......... He said he had killed stuff a couple years before because of " aggressiveness", what this means? he doesnt clarify From my understanding, you ramp up feeding to counteract. Almost everything I read says to add MicroBacter7 or the likes when doing this as well as increasing feeding. Maybe the Vodka had nothing to do with your clams death other than starving them. I think death in reef tanks happen at random and for random reasons and sometimes get blamed on this or that because it has to be blamed on something. Im avoiding Sugar and vinegar only because theres multiple place where people seem to overdose here, and from my understanding, its only to introduce 2 different strains of Bacteria, MB7 does this.
  4. Hey Mark Nice seein ya again, sorry I had to rush but our daughter had to pee and I promised them dinner if they chauffeured my but clear out to Garrets place, Id had a few drinks earlier. In our conversation you asked how I had a theater in a mobile home or something to that effect. It isnt, its in the basement of this which is 40' north of what was once a mobile home ( that was hauled off in 3 dumpsters) Someday when all my little frags grow up to be big frags, youll have to stop out for some pool , reef and a flick
  5. Damsels can be little buggers, they are known for killing other fish. I have one and when I add a fish I have to watch it the first day and if he chases the new fish, I chase him with a long Turkey baster and after awhile he gets the idea. He sees the turkey baster a lot less these days
  6. Hmmm, yeah maybe I should have read more but I just read where people had successful looking reeftanks and were claiming victory and showing pictures. Maybe Ill google VsV gone bad and see if people OD'ed their tanks. I thought I remembered something about O2 or Co2 levels but Im just taking it slow.
  7. Heh yeah he seems to take squeezing well! Hes got some awesome frags!
  8. Actually I read really well, one thread went on for 4 years and had science introduced into about 10 pages and not one person had death. One guy was dosing like 3ml in a 40 gal tank which suprised the heck out of me. All Ive read is good, maybe you can link the bad stuff, I think this thread goes into detail pretty good with no problems http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1225324
  9. he put what he did in my thread here http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/showthread.php?t=16009 Everything I read was .1 ml Vodka per 25 gal..........I have a 150 + sump, I went .7 ml for 3 days the 1. ml now. 0 nitrates, 0 phosphate on Salifert tests The first night I did 3 cap fuls of MB7 and 3 drops a day since
  10. So what do you guys "feed" your corals? The Bacteria or do you use oyster mix or any other goodies? You do this so you can overfeed am I correct?
  11. I know I sat down and read for an entire day about both Zeo and Vodka and I never read anyone having a problem with Vodka dosing. The few that did said they had Cyno pop up and they halved the dosage and it went away. The Zeo crowd was a whole other animal, seems alot had troubles and Zeo is pretty expensive to start, keep and that twice a day pumping thing would probably make my Tank sitters a little nervous if I went on a 2 week vacation. With Vodka, just stop dosing or keep it up, filling a syringe with vodka and squirting it in once a day, and 3 drops of MB7 is pretty easy
  12. Yeah I started this about 4 days ago and already noticed 1 major difference, the water is so completely clear its scary! I mean it looks like your stuff is "suspended in air" clear. Im the same as you I have always been a little dissappointed in all the voodoo and never really saw huge growth in anything but Xenia, star polyps and Montis but yet I see these amazing reef tanks that just seem to go crazy in growth and they all do the same thing..........Vodka and bacteria dosing. Im giving it a shot and so far my corals look very happy, I even bought or got a free SPS from David in New Castle the other day and it appeared to be turning whiter and whiter up the base on a daily basis. the second day of vodka and MB7 it just stopped and little polyps popped out.
  13. Hey Mr.S Garrettm85 PMed me within the first hour of posting. Its a rather large " chunk" maybe he would give you some. Forgot to mention it was gone here!
  14. Im 20 minutes west of Salem and frequently go to Salem. You will get a zillion copepods with this chunk
  15. and after all those great recomendations...........if everythings good, you may have an aggressive fish thats stressing( killing) the others

I actually have Herbie Overflows but having an 1-1/4" flex pipe going down to the sump without a hard 90 and any length past the 90 creates enough suction it just drains too efficiently. This is the first time I havent had any elbows coming off the supply and theres just no restriction at all
  17. Hey whats up! Long time no see......... Yeah the ole Bowfront was down for over a year while we started some other projects. Cant wait to see that beast of a tank you bought from Scott when you get it set up

One thing I noticed from my last "attempt" is you need some offsets coming down from the overflows. As of now one of my overflows is almost straight into the sump and that overflow rises and lowers creating a suction sound. Im guessing it takes 2 90's to keep this from happening
  19. Nice tank, saw it while I was grabbing all the Montis out of it........... Upload pics to photobucket, then copy and paste their link into your post
  20. this seems to be the norm, did you notice cleaner water and color changes or advanced growth?
  21. The weird thing is I spent probably 5 hours straight reading and never found anyone that had a " bad" experience with Vodka dosing. I think I remember 1 guy who dumped a 1/2 a cup of sugar and killed some stuff but most of the problems I noticed was with the Zeo crowd. From my understanding, if you notice anything going south, cutting back a little on dosing always solves the problems.
  22. So MB7 being this? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3975+19615&pcatid=19615 What is your alkalinity? was it high from calcium reactor, is it lower now, or did the dosing lower it naturally? So am I understanding that you are basically "creating" bacteria (food) for the corals whilst also creating bacteria that dissolves nitrates and phosphates? Also I am wondering if you pull out the Chaeto before dosing, or watch it and see if it dies in which case I would do a " who wants free chaeto " thread
  23. Yeah it was on KATU or one of them, it was definately in the Portland area. The cops made him take it down because not only were people driving up in the yard and attempting to help but the 911 calls were plugging their phone lines....... One of the best ( most amusing ) things Ive seen in years as far as Christmas decorations, its too bad we live in a world of whiners that cant take a joke, anyone with half a brain cell would know the gutters would be wrinkled if not falling, and there would be some sort of movement from the dummy. At most if youre not sure yell to the guy and see if he needs help. Like calling 911 is going to rescue in time or better yet, set the ladder back up if theres a response. Personally, the more I think about it, I would have told the cops to get off my property and go hand out some seatbelt tickets to grown adults that dont want to wear them.
  24. LMAO..........tell your friend thanks! I saw on the news about him having to take them down...........thats too bad, really , really funny, I belly laughed
  25. How many actually do this with success? I bet I read 30 articles about it and it seems they dont mesh up and everyone is just slightly different. The one thing Im not sure about is the amount, several list start with .5ml per 25 gallons but as I read posts everywhere else they say they dose .5 daily or twice a day, now are they forgetting the PER 25 gallons or is this just a know fact? So say I have 150 gallons and 30 gal in the sump would this mean I dose .5 x 7? Also I read alot about V/s/v but I swear I read somewhere that a scientist said theres no science behind it and passed it off as voodoo needing the sugar and vinegar. Also some are doing other additives with this and its a pretty substaintial difference in the products, is there anything YOU MUST ADD or blow up the eco system? I have the Phosban reactor and a sizeable wad (1/2 a 5 gallon bucket) of Chaeto (sp?) in my sump ........do you leave these in, or take them out? some do.... some dont. Some people have incredible results ( one guy was getting inches a month on his sps, some see no results months into the process. Has anyone here run VSV with outstanding results and is positive the results are from the VSV and not just doing weekly water changes or something else. Did you actually stop dosing, see negative results, then start back up with positive results? Some people shut down their skimmer for 6 hours after dosing, some dont, some add $100.00 ( per 8) bacteria bottles every 2 weeks , some dont. The Alk thing has me baffled as well, my Calcium reactor keeps my tank at high levels along with Calcium at high levels, I have read where most who VSV drop their Alk down to lower levels but with no explaination of why If youre confident your method works could you list your paramaters , how big your tank and sump is and how much you dose, also any additive and feeding and how much feeding. Also when you feed is it spot feeding or just dump it in. Does doing a 15% water change a week do the same thing or achieve the same result? Is there enough in water changes alone to grow out Sps?
