  1. I've been looking at nikon coolpix 4800 and canon powershot a520. Any suggestions?
  2. ^^ Hey Bill can you pick something up for me too? I'll PM you later today.
  3. I don't know much about skimmers as I have a nano but figured I could use one if I found one for cheap. If someone has an old one laying around, I'll take it off your hands. It doesn't need to be great, just useful.
  4. ^^ I generally try to ask questions only when my own research doesn't come up with clear answers and thought this was a good link - now i know i don't have a pinched mantel. My clam decided to open up two days ago. BTW, weren't you supposed to post a pic of your clam after your snowboard trip? (whistle)
  5. hehe. thank you. I've had two offers to buy my clownfish. One for $100!!! crazy. (nutty)
  6. Total members that have visited the forum today: 16 - it's almost 3 am and there are 6 active users. yikes people!
  7. ok, ok, old thread but i too pondered on the term egg crate and thought i'd share what I have decided is the answer: if you go to a store like winco where they sell eggs by 5 dozen, you'll see that they are in crates made out of our "egg crate" material.
  8. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-09/jf/index.php :( I moved my clam up higher - slightly more flow, more light. Now the middle part isn't opening up all the way? I don't have a camera so I'll try to describe it: the mantel seems to come out except one "loop". The "inside" part of the clam is no longer exposed. Anyone got any ideas? Nothing has changed except I actually did a water change and my nitrates have gone down a little. The clam is still attached to the rock. On a note I said before.... what does clam poop look like? I think what I may have thought was clam poop was actually it expelling its zooxanthellae which is not good....?
  9. if the sale falls through, can i be next in line? i take a two hour break from this website to go to class and this is what i miss....
  10. stayed up late on a homework assignment, woke up at 8 only to find out campus is closed today until 11. Maybe they'll turn it and cancel the entire day!
  11. I want! I think the "plant" tanks they have at petco would be really cool to have too - the "octagon"(?) tanks where there are several waterfalls flowing to separated sections...(drooler)
  12. you mean the Greek looking symbols to the bottom left? that does look weird. (nutty) I did it. (whistle) (laugh) just kidding!
  13. This may be shallow and I'm sorry if it offends anyone but I take people more seriously if they have good spelling and grammar - especially since there's a running spell-checker while you type a post. (whistle) It seems that a lot of people mess up with conjugations. If you just think about it: it's = it is you're = you are they're = they are I don't know how to explain their usage and even if I did, it'd probably get confusing with technical English terms. Here are some (correct?) sentences with commonly misused words: Jenny is going to the store. I am going to the store too. I'll have to make sure I don't use my two dollar bill. Bob asked, "where are they going?" Kathy responded, "They're going to the store in their brand new car". (Bob tried to kiss Kathy and Kathy punched Bob in the face before kicking him in the nuts) "What's your problem?!" asked Bob. "You're a pig!" said Kathy before she dumped bleach in his fish tank. Hehe. The end. EDIT: I meant CONTRACTIONS.
  14. I don't know anything about pleunum but have seen a few times. Any good links? Mycobacteria would be very interesting! I would have to see what sort of tests I could perform to identify it in the sample? Would it be more likely in the sand or in the water? I'll do some research. Of course, curing ick would be like curing the common cold. A nobel prize winner I'm sure. At least in the fish community. (laugh)
  15. I'm taking a writing intensive course for my major (microbiology) where we are supposed to learn how to write grant proposals and scientific papers. There's a big project due at the end of the term where we will have choosen some "environment" to take a sample of, we will have tested for bacteria and we will write a proposal. I think I'm going to do my reef tank but there are three questions that I need to be able to answer: 1. What is the question?/ proposal? 2. Why should the reader care? 3. How will the work/testing answer the question? Basically, I need a reason to test my fish tank and that reason has to be good enough so that some corporation or big money-rich entity will fund my research. If anyone has any ideas or can point me to some website, or whatever, that would be appreciated.
  16. aaahhhhhhg. what happened to Ohio State!?!?! They started out so strong. DOH! Good effort on the Florida defense team though. That's dedication when you continue to tackle when your helmet falls off and risk serious injury. (drooler)

  18. sorry, it's just what I read a lot. My clam does appear to be regaining color but not fast enough! sigh... I just need to be patient and continue to maintain my water I guess. Thanks for sharing your experiences and your knowledge, Nyles.
