  1. well, i angled the clam down a bit and this is what it looks like: I guess all my questions about its health were just annoying....(laugh) It still is discolored a little if I look from the top of the water down but after observing someone else's clam, I noticed that mine has grown a set of "scutes" (sp?). Anyway, I take that as a good sign. (clap)
  2. Really? I'm a microbiology major, which one is more likely to hire me once I graduate? (scratch)
  3. I suspect I know why a lot of people didn't show up for the Borneman lecture - in fact, I wish I hadn't gone. (scratch) Anyway, maybe before each event/lecture you can give detailed description about the event/lecturer and then try to get a consensus on who would actually attend and have a minimum attendance for you to invite out a lecturer - because like someone else said in this thread, I too will go out of my way to see a lecture I'm really interested in (which is why I went to this one but I really should have did a little more homework...)
  4. gosh darnit. When we spoke on the phone about the clownfish I didn't realize you would sell everything so fast and have the LR available so soon. Anything left?
  5. odyssea 20K 175W MH. It's about 12 inches away from the light I think the brown strings came from the clam. bad? Anyway, I think the clam was just moving because it's back down now in a different angle. Still, I would like to know about the stringy stuff....
  6. what kind of clownfish? EDIT: If true percula, i got dibs?
  7. I only told you the name so you could look up better pictures. My lights are 20K so photos come out looking like they're under atinics. I guess I could go take a flash photo.... I also have these: However, the problem now is that I will be coming up to Portland Friday night. I don't know if the corals will last until Sunday meeting?
  8. OSAC. Give a scholarship to a needy student.
  9. Does the club have a t-shirt? I like the novelty T-shirts - for example, I have a t-shirt from the Marine Organic Chemistry lab I used to work at that says "Ab alga ad astra" (I think it means "from the sea to the stars") in a small logo in the front and in the back is a picture of a fish that has DNA helices for fins and pictures of molecules inside air bubbles. (whistle) (laugh) I know on campus whenever we have booth fairs the most popular ones give something away. Maybe we can hand out a calendar with pictures of club member's tanks? I don't know what that would cost... (scratch)
  10. Shiny posters at every LFS? Shiny things always catch my eye. I'm a girl, what can i say. (laugh)
  11. Analysis? Something up with the clam or is it just me? The heater is not actually as close as it looks.
  12. You have to watch the commercials though!!!! Dharma puts on commercials and gives you a phone number and website to visit. It's a huge reality game to figure out what Dharma is/does. I guess the game is over now though and I forget what the point of it was but I think because Portland, Oregon had the largest fan base for the game that that's why it was named as the "location" of the Dharma Initiative. EDIT: Juliette - good person or bad? hmmmmmmm Alexandria is Ben's daughter?!?!?!?! Wasn't she supposed to be the French Woman's (aka Danielle) daughter? Is the French woman part of the Others and when she "captured" Ben (aka, Henry Gale) , was it just a huge ploy to get him into the group?!?!?! AHhhhhhhg. Is Ben actually Danielle's husband that she said she supposedly killed off? yikes! I love this show.
  13. About how long will the lecture be? I've got homework due the next day down in Corvallis (whistle)
  14. Um, those are pictures of all I have. I could probably part with two or three polyps of the first one. They grow super slow. On zoaid.com they're called green stardust people eater...or something like that. I guess I would trade polyp for polyp? I dunno. This will be my first official trade. (clap) (shy)
  15. DOH! I tried. (laugh) If you change your mind about the money thing, let me know!
  16. Ok, ok, i don't have any zoos that you don't already have posted here. I'll trade you my soul for these orange ones. (whistle)
  17. how are you going about fixing the pinched mantel?
  18. will someone take this coral!? I am interested in trades as well.
  19. I don't understand why you said I am wrong when I admitted that yes, there have been global warmings before. I think the thing we disagree on is whether or not the planet can handle the RATE at which it is warming. We shall agree to disagree. Ok, sorry to keep pushing the subject.DOH!
  20. I'd just like to note that in the past two hundred years humans have expanded to every part of this globe. A single species has exploited nearly every earthly resource and dominated all other species. Global warming is part of the natural cycle but temperatures have never raised at the rate that it is occurring today. With the expansion of human population and industrial economies (e.g., China) global warming is much worse and occurring at a much faster rate than mother nature can compensate as she has done in the past. I do not see the report as a "scare" tactic. It's merely a truth. If you want scare tactics, ask Bush about Iraq.
  21. (laugh) pun intended? (whistle) (laugh)
