  3. Ive bought two of them a year ago.............the most INACCURATE heaters ive ever used, and thats saying something. I think i hucked one of them into the concrete in my garage cooking rock.............its no longert among the living......i think i still have the other floating around..........want it???

I honestly dont think him sliming like that is so bad if you suck the majority of it up...and run some carbon when you see it......i guess it depends on how big your tank is though.........BUT, i have lost at least a half dozen corals to this guy by coming home and finding that something has fallen into him........TOAST. He loves it just under the waters surface so i always try to securely have him elevated as high as i can so that cant happen so easily.........It DOES burn a couple of his tips ever so slightlyt but I think it just makes him grow out instead of up

I sucked the majority off with a huge syringe right after it happened. I have this 12" x 1/2" syringe that i bored the endo out of that i use to target feed a couple of my lps with......it works pretty good for sucking stuff up...... Its actually a great tool i think everybody should have......its good for sucking up nudibranch, small snails and flatworms too....quite a bit more control than a turkeybaster and you dont have to get out the siphon........ : )

Im sure everybody in the tank LOVES it when this happens I ticked off my 12" hydro today
  7. LOL, you should have seen my 80 gallon by the time i finally finished my last build. I intended on doing it in a month.....it took four months and the entire time i would tell people, " yeah, id scrape it, but its coming down soon anyway"....haha....... every now and then id want to take a pic for one reason or another and id have to scrape an area big enough for the lens.........

    MACROSHOTS 50mm

SWEET!!!! Some great shots of some GREAT pieces.
  9. If you dont have a temp controller either stand alone or on a chiller you can plug the heater into as well go with two smaller heaters just to be safe. : ) A few extra bucks that might someday save your tank from cooking is CHEAP insurance.
  10. hands down these are the most accurate heaters i have ever used. I have 4 of them but cvant attest for the longevity as i only started using them 6 months ago. But ive never heard anything negative. Just dont pull them out of the water, forget to unplug them and set them on the carpet...... (laugh) http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_heaters_won_brothers_pro-heat_titanium.asp?CartId=
  11. I think a combination of what has been mentioned so far. Although kinda generic, the whole clown anemone thing cant be beat, that and a bunch of pretty softies and i think youll have lots of future reefers interest. : ) You could make that pretty easy to maintain as well.
  12. This coming from a man afraid of drilling a couple of little holes in his tank (scratch) (laugh) May the force be with you Siskou
  13. OK, i am going to start by saying the first one isnt a fresh picture.......its 3 months old, but its one of my Fav's. I call it "The King on his Throne".
  14. They dont carry reef crystals here in Bend. : ( thanks though. I kind of liked it dropped on my doorstep anyway. : )
  15. Yeah, i understand, that puts all of the sponsors in a bad position of trying to be the first one to answer a thread in order to get the business or a silly pricing war, of which im not sure any of them would participate in anyway. TOTALLY understandable why that cant happen here, or in any thread besides thier own sponsor forum. To be honest, i buy all of my salt from the Dr's. They will ship 8 buckets of reef crystals to my door for $320. It would cost me $440 to get 8 of the regular IO if i drove down to good ol Petco or Petsmart to buy them, which of course are the only LFS's I have to choose from.
  16. THAT will be VERY interesting to see how it pans out. I got to believe there is more than a little bit of money riding on the results of these tests. I for one am prepared to drop my current salt like a bad habit(JUST like a bad habit maybe LOL), based on what i hear.
  17. Why only 12"??? FWIW, i initially build the racks with 100% floor coverage - 3 1/2 " or so in front if so desired. Then you simply lift the rods out that arent necessary. The rods arent glued nor do they need to be. They just sit in place. This provides you with 100% control of what actual footprint you want your rock to take up as well as provides you with new aquascaping possibilities in the future when you want to cahnge things. You simply put them back. As well, depending on the size of your rock, all of the support rods you see are not even close to necessary, many of those are pulled out as well when you go to stack, but its one of those things you dont know which ones arent necessary until you start to stack. BUT, in answer to your SPECIFIC question...$50 + shipping. : ), but i would encourage you to just give me exact usable footprint and let me build a rack for the whole thing, which wont be all that much more, $10 probably for the extra rods, thats where the majority of the material cost is in these things. Ive tried the cheaper rods but they stand out and arent so hard to see...the cast acrylic like quality tanks are made out of is the key. I also need to know if you have an acrylci tank with eurobracing, as two smaller racks are needed to fit them into the tank in this case.
  18. Ive already done it although ti wasnt my original idea....its called 3/8 acrylic rods and a 3/8 masonry drill bit. You can make impossible ledges and "floating" rocks with that method
  19. This is my latest invisible rock lift design The racks begin with seriously TWICE as many rods as are really necessary(+/- depending on the size of your rock of course). Then when you go to stack your first layer of rock on them you simply remove the ones that arent needed by lifting them out of their sockets. I set them up so you begin with 100% covering the floor of your aquarium minus about 3 1/2 inches clearance in front. From that point you can shape your reef however you like by simply pulling the rods out to shape the desired footprint. THEN, you have the option in the future of putting them back for new aquascaping ideas. check it out here is an ebay auction for it. http://cgi.ebay.com/Invisible-Live-...1QQcmdZViewItem ps-anybody from TRT or PNWMAS can have an automatic base price of $60 if interested. Base price is based on a 48 x 18 tank footprint. I think its ok for me to place that link here as i am just as happy to help anyone build one on their own if they want any details Im not selling them to get rich and famous......im just passing the time playing Mr Mom with my 5 month old. : ) Im just going to spend any money made on some SPS corals over the hill at a REAL LFS. haha Mods...if this ISNT ok just let me know and i will come back and omit anything referring my auctions : ) Ive got the materials to make like 20 of these things and just passing time at home. : ) I think ive come up with a fantastic idea here if i do say so myself, and im more than happy to share with fellow reefers. FWIW, your looking at roughly $30 in acrylic alone if you buy it in bulk Equipment needed is a table saw with an acrylic blade, a 3/4 inch drill bit(acrylic bit not completely required but helps) and a bunch of 1/2" acrylic scrap and 3/4" cast acrylic rods. And of course some good 'ol weld on #16 This is the BEST way to lift your rock IMO. If is not ugly like pvc lifts and as well, the rods are so much smaller than the necessary pvc piping to do the job, it barely restricts flow at all underneath and through your reef,UNLIKE pvc. The frame is designed to not mess with any of your sand critters, 1 1/4" of sand will cover the frame 100%....... win/win/win over pvc lifts : )
  20. Very cool : ). Hopefully i get over the hill for a meeting before that one ............
  21. I saw this one on RC earlier today........ http://www.oceanussystems.com/products/poseidon.aspx was curious..........i want to figure out how to make one of these run 2 different sumps/systems.....that would be the only way i could justify that kind of money....... anybody know of one that can do that???
  22. Steveweast.........floating viewing boxes????? Would like more information on this and what exactly you are talking about. Dont mean to hi-jack izzypop.. : ) just curious I dont have an inwall but i DO like to take top down pics...................
