  1. FWIW, that Dart is the quietest pump ive ever seen. My cat purrs way louder than it does....im not kidding. And i havent noticed it heat the water much. My Barracuda doesnt heat the water much either but like i said before....i have a fan on it 24/7. Its not nearly as quiet........but not bad either
  2. i didnt know that about the throttling back as being "ok"...good to know but the closed loop should have nothing to do with the sump.......... cls pump infeed(s) -> pump -> OM unit-> cls returns sump should never see the water in the closed loop part of the system......thats what makes it a "closed" loop reefgeek......i will also offer this.....if you go to use a bunch of flex pipe in plumbing this OM unit........take your time and there are a few tricks that if you dont do you WILL have bubbles in your cls returns elevate the pump somehow and put a full time fan on it to help with heat issues............ I just use a block of boat plastic to get it up in the air a few inches...
  3. I originally had a 4 way for my 90....but after plumbing the 225 with spraybars and the 8 way i decided i didnt want to waste two of my 4 ports on spraybars so i upgraded to a 8-way. FWIW, dont say i said so...haha........but Paul at ocenas motions will upgrade you to the 8 way for only the difference in retail cost.......... If you want any spraybar ideas with the om products, i did a bunch of experimental testing to get the spraybar flows to match the other port flows on both of my tanks...........ZERO dead spots is the goal.....
  4. the only way IMO that pump is reasonable on a tank that size is if you went barebottom. that 225 i just built with the 8 way only has 5800 or so moving through it and i can barely keep the sand on the ground in it............and my OM drum is cut with 3 ports open If you go ahead with it with a sandbed just make sure to put threaded unions on both sides of that pump..........itll be easier to throw that barracuda in its place should need be;) IMO splitting the lines wont affect it as much as you think, DEFINITELY not to the point of not being enough flow, and you really dont want to put a ball valve on that pump put an ad on reef central to swap, get the right pump and some cash in your pocket just my $.02
  5. Like i said, the guy who i worked with on the phone did a experiment for me through 1/2" glass, out of the water. he had never heard of the concept so was curious himself. What it comes down to is the point Joel brought up in concern to risk. we will see
  6. The larger of the magnets i linked have enough strength to hold almost a half pound OUT of the water. I dont think sliding is an issue. Besides, i either need to put some corals on the walls or get a bigger tank : ) OR a bigger crack pipe..........(laugh)
  7. Good input Joel. He "said" they were coated VERY well and you couldnt easily take it off with a blade.........we will see. With that being said i may just coat them AGAIN and do some time and thrash tests before using them.......... thanks ps-have you or anyone else ever heard of the aquamags polluting a tank??? I dont plan on moving them like a magscraper, but just the same......if this coating or one i can create over it isnt bulletproof...its definitely a "no deal"
  8. I think for $1.40 a pair and all i have to do is epoxy a cool piece of rubble to it aint too bad....... I just bought a bunch of them in both sizes....ill make you all a deal.......$5.50!!! (laugh) (whistle) J/K I will let you know if they are as cool as they sound so far. I have visions of hanging large colonies off my sps tank walls and baseball size lps all over the walls of my softy tank......... (plotting) THATS how you make a tank REALLY packed with corals...... I think that people selling frags could benefit from these things a ton........quadruple your space for much cheaper than throwing up new walls and equipment..........and for small frags i bet you could get a couple magnets for pennies and then charge a little extra (or not) and let them go with the sale as a bonus................
  9. Just thought i would share a little FYI for anyone else who thinks the frag mags are a cool concept. These magnets are MANY times stronger than the ones that aquamags.com sells for $6 apiece. (it takes TWO of these of course). They are coated with epoxy and waterproof, rustproof and inert. The guy i talked to had never heard of the concept but he did an experiment OUT of the water for me and the small ones he said could hold 2 ounces and the large one SIX ounces.....OUT of the water. The ones aquamags sell can only hold an ounce they claim under the water.. I found these as i didnt like the price OR the ugly black rubble that they put them on. So i searched haphazardly for a couple of days and came up with these. I am going to epoxy COOL rock rubble to them so certain corals can easily be stuck to the side of the aquarium, as well as easily removed if desired. just thought there might be a couple of you interested, as well, they were super responsive and friendly towards my inquiries. http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DC2E http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D82E
  10. i think he emailed me about the time i posted that.......i got it is there more than one reefgeek??
  11. Unblock your messenger system and/or send me your address...............
  12. You can save the space for taking the radio and bring more beer. Unless you have a satellite connection, you aint listening to no ball game at suttle lake. You should thank me though, now you can bring more beer. : )
  13. what mode do you have the camera on???? Try both pc mode and play mode, mine works when the camera is in play mode and playing......both the controls on the camera and on the WMM program can control the camera in the WMM window........ If that doesnt work for you we are past the point of my extensive (yeah right) knowledge.......
  14. Ill play. My name is Bill and i live in Bend. I have only been doing this hobby for 2 years, although int he last year of it i have been eating, breathing and sleeping it. Kind of like i have at times the other hobbies in my life, snowskiing, golf and flyfishing. In that short amount of time i have constantly been upgrading and improving and have had 5 different tanks going, not counting the two which i just built which i believe are the PERFECT tanks, short of them being in the perfect house with them in wall or center of a big room of course. I went with the best of both worlds, a 225 dsb softy/lps tank and a 90 bb sps/clam tank, and didnt cut any corners as far as equipment or set up. I own a flyfishing guide business that primarily operates on the Deschutes river. Also my newest full time hobby is my son Carver born in March. I(we..haha) chose that name as i have hopes of him being a ski racer, but im not a controlling person, so he could become a serial killer as well with t hat name. Gotta give a kid options y'know. Hes a big healthy kid but had some fairly severe colic and other health issues for the first four months but is feeling much better now. I found TRT last winter and loved the friendly helpful family like feeling of the site, although my humor is typically a little crude and sarcastic for that site, i have learned(i think) to tame it down appropriately. I met Jay online in April of this year when he did me a favor and i joined pnwmas at that time, although i just have been participating in the pnwmas forum for not even a month at this point. I have enjoyed talking with the people here as well and look forward to learning, sharing, and meeting more of you. Im not much to look at but i have attached a pic of a great looking kid.
  15. Im not positive, but i dont even think that driver is necessary with windows movie maker........on my panasonic, my camera is just set to play and WMMaker just picks it up......
  16. heres one you could count on to gladly support a quality local business.
  17. i dont care....your choice.........i was just too lazy to type it again........... : ) of course if i was smarter...i could have just cut and pasted it.....like this..... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- need 70 or 72"(prefer 70) bulb suggestions for a icecrap 660. Planning on running 2 actinic type bulbs with (3) 250w MH, 2-14ks and 1-10k in the middle on my 225 softy/lps tank Like the title said, just looking for some blue...which bulbs should i get and why???? thanks __________________
  18. http://thereeftank.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81789 thanks...... just looking for opinions and i know you all have them...........
  19. This stuff is frozen i assume??? I got a question for you feeder people. What happens to frozen cyclopleeze if you forget and leave it out for a day. I dont feed my stonies, i stopped a few months ago and cant tell any difference. I think im getting good growth and color but i used to use cyclopleeze and i did let it thaw accidentally. Just curious........its definitely interesting to hear rave reviews like this.....
  20. I use windows movie maker......its a good program and if youve got windows XP, you already have it
  21. Vinegar and lemon juice both work great, but it concerns me putting those things in my water. I have learned with joes juice to turn the current off completely and make sure you get enough on them that it looks like a glob completely covering their mouth and it works EVERY time. Nice thing about joes juice is if you turn the currnet off and can gently put it right next to them they think its food and eat it. Youvbe got to be a quick good shot with the needle, and a lot of times you end up sticking it through them and shooting the stuff on the other side of them....... I have whacked 50 of those things with joes juice before at one time and even though things like zoos will eat it and look sick for days if you mess up and get a bunch of it on them........they always come out of it. Just be careful if you have other anemones....
  22. Pretty much unrelated, but i remember one of my not so bright reefing moments i accidentally let a frozen cube of formula one land on a condy and he of course ate it.......literally and figuratively...............
