  1. They are an LPS coral, so same type of demand... Some are claiming that the "aussie" ones are in shallow water so they need higher light, but I take that with a grain of salt...I really think that they will do fine under most lighting and if there is any concern, just spot feed them and you are goo to go... They are different then candy cane, though, but from the same type of coral
  2. I want to know when we will see these local? LOL...these are super nice...I betting that the price tag keeps them away from here, seeing that all of them are over 200 for a colony...These have now gotten me into acans!!!!!! http://www.fragfarmer.com/Australian-Acans-p-1-c-54.html http://www.thecaptivereef.com/page/15u9a/Aussie_Lord_Colonies.html http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=30135
  3. I am making this the official thread...if you are going to be in chat...just reply to this thread and let people know you will be in there....I am in there now if you want to chat...
  4. So, now that my big tank can not have much added to it in the way of fish and coral, I have idle hands and want to start on a new project... I saw the JBJ picotope aquarium somewhere on line and fell in love with the look of it. I have always wanted to start a pico tank, but never really wanted to spend the cash...but this was less then 40 bucks, so I figured what the hell, lets do it...I knew that I would want to keep coral in it, so the filter it comes with would not be sufficient and the light would not either...So I did some buying and upgrading to bring this pico up to the next level...I wanted something super small, not a bio cube or anything of the like, but 5 gal. or less and this is a super cool design, so here are the plans... Equipment: - 3 gal. JBJ picotope aquarium - Peguin Power filter w/ bio-wheel. This also has carbon bags, I wanted a bio wheel, because they work very well for LPS tanks and softie tanks (and since I do not plan on keeping SPS, this will really help with the water quailty.) -Filter it comes with, I will use this to house phosphate remover. -Lighting: are trade show 50w halogen display lights, which I got a number of ushio bulbs in different colors, including a 3.5k "daylight" bulb, so I should be able to achieve the looks of normal sized tanks with different types of bulbs, with out have a huge chunk of fixture over the top (like a coralife fixture), so these I think are a great option. Since I will be keeping LPS, if these lights do not offer the best means of photosynthesis, they will not be harmed to much. These are bright and to boot they offer shimmer lines and were cheaper then the clip halides that are available in the hobby for these small tanks, not to mention that the bulbs are 7 bucks each. -PCI CL-85 chiller -Maxi-jet 606 for the water to push through the chiller Livestock: -Some sort of small goby -2 dwarf seahorses ( I am hoping that since they are so small, the food demand will not be as high, so I can keep up with it.) -Aussie acans, micromussa and maybe some super cool favia, I already have some baby’s breathe ready to go in the tank… Here are a couple of pics to get this started…once this starts rolling, I will get more pics up as soon as I have some… It all in the boxes Out of the boxes Plans for the stand
  5. From my understanding, urchins beaks can easily scratch an acrylic tanks...I could be very wrong...but you might want to confirm either way, just to be safe... Other then that they are reef safe, with the exception that they like to knock things over...
  6. Awesome can not wait to come over... check out this thread reef165 knows drywall, so I am sure he knows what is involved, if not I am willing to bet he knows someone who does... http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5467 I am more then happy to come help...so just let me know if you need any.
  7. Nice, well let's see your collection...like I said I am down to get stuff from other people... So send me some pics that you are interested in selling. :-)
  8. I agree I sent him a message as well, still have not heard anything from him, I am sure he is super busy with stuff. - just like to get stuff from different places to get some variety, I wish some local stores would bring in some aussie acans. I would be all over them!!! I have been chatting with the guy from reef doctor and he can give some killer deals on frags of the small acans... So if anyone wants in on it let me know even if it is a small order, like 50 bucks or what ever!
  9. I see that people do group orders from Roe's...so...I was curious if anyone wants to get in on a group order from http://www.reefdoctormicromussas.com We can split shipping and if the order is big enough, we may be able to get some freebies as well ...Let me know if you are interested...I am doing this either way, but thinking somebody people may want to go in with me on it to cut shipping costs...would like to get this done some time this week...
  10. When you get the 360, I am bringing my fold up chair over and sitting in front of your tank for some time... This is a great tank, I saw it when it was up and going in Reefhut's house, very nice tank.
  11. I am in the same boat as reef165... I am wishing no ill will on any store, just saying that I am surprised we are able to support so many stores...and I am very thankful for all the ones that are here...
  12. I am putting together a 3 gallon pico tank with a chiller, so I need a very small easy to build stand made...I just do not have the tools to do so...so I was hoping someone had some scrap laying around that could build one for me and I could hook you up with some frags or simply pay you...Please let me know...Thanks.
  13. I agree...and this is why I like to try and by fish right out of the bag because it is dramaticlly less money... I do not agree with Race and what he is claiming...I would just like to see LFS offer one... There is also something to be said for buying a fish you can see in front of your face and to demand a store to carry a guarantee is not good practice...like you said it should be up to the store if they want to offer it and let the people choose...
  14. I understand this whole point.... But knowing that fish die for some odd reason...so if a store sells fish that are fresh out of the box and they die in someone else's tank and the store tells the customer to bad that happens, it sounds like the stores are saying it is the customers part...which is not the case... Joel this is not a personal attack on you at all...i am just stating my thoughts here...I do think there will come a point that stores will start to offer a guarantee....
  15. I agree with you completely Joel, they will sell to anyone and have a budget big enough to make guarantees...Wholesalers should be giving guarantees...and then the LFS should honor those guarantees and until that happens LFS should not be expected to offer guarantees. I do feel that this is going to start to set LFS and wholesalers apart from others and will start to dominate the field... Cause it is super frustrating when you go into a local fish store buy a fish and it dies two days later and it was only in the fish store for a couple of days, you talk to them about it and they say, well we have no idea what happened cause it was fine here...when apparently it was not...And I know this to be true, cause I have seen fish that i thought about buying but thought I would wait a bit longer since it was just newly added to the store and a few days later it is dead (and if I would have bought the fish, I would have been told they have no idea what happened) and I am very happy I did not buy it cause I would be out cash... I am probably going to catch a ton of flack for this I am sure...
  16. Check with Miles (Impur) I think he has some...he is the zoa guy on this board (laugh)
  17. Nice, I had to drop my tank to 250.00 bucks to get it sold, your stand was nicer then mine it looks like...
  18. I have one, will hold water not the prettiest, has a bulk head that has been epoxyed in that is blue... If you do not like the bulk head placement it could be plugged easily...it has fuge section as well I'll take 75 for it. Worked like a champ on my old tank. Let me know if you are interested.
