  1. well the key was that I didnt want to have intakes come up from the bottom due to the possibility of sucking in sand etc, and having to look at the "screen" at the end of the PVC riser (coming out of the bottom. The square holes would be like 4x12 inches, I cant imagine that wouldnt provide enough flow, its going to be alot more surface area for suction than regular bulkhead covers. Also the BIGGEST issue is I cannot have any plumbing behind the tank, I have tiled my floor at home and I would have to move the tank 4-6 inches away from the wall and it would make the tile look terrible. Thats why Im drilling all the holes in the bottom rather than any in the back.
  2. I just did it by hand,,, hopefully its clear. I posted another thread for design feedback. http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/showthread.php?t=794
  3. I am designing a new tank and want to design it such that there is no plumbing out the back of the tank. As you can see in this design the water would flow into the sides, there would be "light defuser" material that fits in this hole, then a finer black mesh would glued to the light defuser to keep fish etc out. The water would both then flow down into the bulkhead in the bottom (closed loop intakes) and also flow up and over into the center portion that will be the normal overflow. There will also be center middle overflow up top to allow surface skimming in the tank. This tank will be glass. I have checked on cutting the square out of the glass and sounds like it will be $30-40 per side. (lazer cut) not bad IMO. Feedback? See attached
  4. whats visio? Shawn, Ill be at the shop most of monday due to the heat, Ill PM you my cell.

    Heat

well Im at 70 blocks of ice and counting. Ran some lights today intermitten based on customer flow. was upto 95 inside. I put a thermometer outside in the shade out front, peaked at 105. The western exposure here just COOKS the front of my building late day. I hosed down the front of the building and roof for about 3 hours. Its down to 89 degrees inside (8:00pm) so I opened up the front and ran my ghetto swamp cooloer (i use a fine mist infront of a 4 foot tall fan) hopefully that will chill the air enough coming in that I can keep reducing the temp inside. its still hotter outside, but Its gotta be dryer air than in here. its stale and sticky gross inside. I seriously considering sleeping here tonight so I can leave the front big door open to chill the whole building overnight. Tomorrow is gonna suck even worse since I dont have a good way to cool everything down tonight. Luckly a customer is letting me borrow his drop in chiller for the cube tank in the office, I just rigged up an exhaust out the window for it so Ill probably run the AC unit I have for the office. its kind of a joke but it did keep the office about 5-10 degrees cooler than the rest of the shop. The problem is it just dumps the heat back into the rest of the shop. its really only good for my comfort not the critters. Luckly there is a 5 ton AC unit in the forcast for waves. Hopefully in the comming weeks it will be pleasent in here. Wish everyone the best dealing with it,,, Im right there with ya, only my lively hood is on the line. Keith, is your chiller for sale? how much? PM me.

been through 15 blocks of ice,,, Ill probably have to go back to work in an hour or so and do another round of ice in every tank. Im sure its not good for the tanks, but its gotta be better than 90 degree water. wish the [language filter] AC guys would hurry up.

its 90 degrees in here and climbing, how is everyone doing out there with the heat? its not even HOT HOT yet outside but its hot in here! Ive got lots of ice waiting to go into sumps when the time comes, everyone else hangin in there?
  8. I would like some help drawing a tank, could someone out there give me a hand and do some drawings in auto cad? Id need someone to come to the shop so i can do some sketches to get on the same page, then do up a drawing in cad. Anyone interested? If necissary I can offer some credit for livestock or something.
  9. i think they are certain death in a tank,,, if my memory serves correctly....
  10. where did the rock come from? Was it cured from an LFS or an established tank or mail ordered? If it was cured you should be able to add critters within days not weeks, mail order is another deal. Interesting topic though, its new to me.
  11. I can get Tek lights that are "ding and dent", ive got a 4 lamp 48" here Id sell for $150. It has a 2 inch blemish on one side that has been repaired. Its on the back so youd never see it anyway. It could be used without needing a canopy to mount retro stuff into. Just a thought.
  12. yes they are available, just bring me your credit card and Ill get you one
  13. I agree, thats why I find it interesting the club voted to disallow sponsors to participate considering an important "other side of things" feed back that could be provided. Reason I bring it up is not just me, but sounds like R2 also was interested in participating. Im not looking to change the vote that was already done, just commenting.
  14. I wish they would have put the menu looking thing on the end or something. Its such a distraction from the rest of the design of the unit. Does anyone know anybody that is running one of these? Maybe on RC or something? someone non biased I mean.
  15. IMO you get what you pay for in lighting. Ebay is like a lighting crap factory it seems these days. Maybe you should buy a canopy and do retro? then you have nice furniture and retro costs are much more reasonable. Ive got PC ballasts I cant hardly GIVE away, Ive had them at 50% off for 6 months and no one wants them.
  16. I wonder if the commercials are because he is doing well now in his new building or if its a "last ditch effort"? Rumor had it he was struggling with his new rent at his big place. I wish him the best either way, I caught his commercial too, looked pretty good for a LFS budget.
  17. you sure thats not a shed? Some of the scorpian family shed there skin.
  18. I have DT's oyster eggs as well as the normal stuff (cyclopeez, kent stuff, regular DT's etc)
  19. Radium on HQI 400w has my #1 vote. Sunlight did just release a 400w Eballast, no more icecrap. Id stick with the 250w HQI too between that and 400w E.
  20. I run ozone and think it helps, but its only really safe if you have a controller.
  21. The newest issue just came out! Drop by your LFS and pick one up. This issue features Hawkfishes. Sub features are: Nutrients, sweeper tentacles and the maldives
  22. Thanks Travis Ill try the novus, if I can just get the white to go away, it should be enough. Its in a bar and its a 340gal tank, so replacing it wont be an option (they wont spend that kind of coin again for a few scratches Im sure of it). Ill work on it a bit with just the novus and see how it comes out, they can then decide if they want to find a "professional".
  23. One of my service accounts has some scratches, not particularly deep, but long and very white. they are on the outside of the tank. Anyone know of a good acrylic polisher guy/gal? James at Envision would be great, except its not exactly his forte' he isnt interested in doing it. any recommendations would be great.
