The duncan is back up for sale. Still got plenty of frogspawn and hammers. Send me a PM if interested but not going to CNC on Sunday. Sounds like you've got the QT dialed pretty well. Can't say I can point to a specific disease based on the symptoms you've described, but that seems more likely than an ammonia/nitrite spike. Definitely frustrating when all seems to being going well and something like this happens. Been there, for sure.

Are you medicating with anything or just doing an observation period? I wouldn't move anything to the DT, as you'll risk contamination if it's a disease. Any other visual/behavioral signs from the Gramma or any other fish (skin/fin condition, scratching/flashing, eating/feeding)? After a little more research, it appears to be a spawning event. So cool! Even saw a few posts where baby torches appeared afterwards, so I shut off the pumps for awhile to allow eggs to settle.

So I've been watching this torch closely for past week because 3-4 heads have remained shriveled without ever expanding to fully open (first pic below). No outward signs of BJD or tissue loss. Maybe just the slightest bit of recession. Then this morning I noticed the mouth of a different head seemed to be torn open, with white stuff coming out. Some of it looks like little white balls (pics below). Anyone have any clue about what the heck is going on here? Even as I write this, the mouth seems to be closing up on its own.

The sand likely has a well developed bacteria bed, so you might consider keeping it alive. What you could do instead is thoroughly rinse it with the tank's water (If you still have it). Stir it all up and then dump the dirty water. This could help get rid of all the built up detritus that could be the underlying issue. Either way, you may have a nutrient spike when you put everything back together, so be ready for water changes.

DC preferred, but main goal is a skimmer that's quieter than my current skimmer. My Somatic 90 works great but the noise is driving my wife crazy! PM me with details.

I've been thinking that this would be a great club resource, similar to the light meters. It's not something I can justify buying because it would rarely get used, but it sure would come in handy for a few corals every now and then (e.g., non-branching Duncan). Thoughts?
