  1. I have yet to visit a few places local but i have been to the following. Cuttlefish has a nice selection of healthy corals and livestock. Jeff is a real stand up guy as well. (I was just there today) Upscales also has a nice selection and is one of the only shops around that stocks a large selection of equipment. Paradise corals is near me and has one of the best selections of zoas I have seen. If you head further south there is all things aquarium that is a nice shop. They are similar to upscales in the sense that they stock livestock as well as equipment and plumbing items. There is also a place called saltwater obsessions that had a good selection of livestock but I haven't been out there in a long time.
  2. I know upscale has them. I have purchased a set from there before.
  3. Looking good. The more I see these peninsula builds the more I want one!
  4. I wasn't sure about these products but decided to give it a shot after seeing it appear in a few BRS videos. I have cycled my last two tanks with Instant ocean bio-spira and it worked out just fine for me.
  5. So far they are working out just fine. I have had them setup for just over a month and measured the output just last week and everything was still spot on. I have read about a pretty even mix of good and bad reviews about jebao stuff but the dosing pumps seem to be more on the positive side. I was using two of their wave makers on my previous tank for well over a year without any issues so decided to give the dosing pumps a try. Hopefully the $60 a pop doesn't turn out to be a costly mistake. What issue have you had with yours?
  6. Little update on the tank. Been busy with the holidays but was able to mount most of my frags. Last night I swapped out the bubble trap foam in the sump for some marine pure blocks. I have seen both good and bad reviews about these them be decided to give it a shot. They are pretty brittle so we will see how they hold up.
  7. That sounds like a lot of work. Wouldn't it be easier to tap into the water heater like spectra said with the tee fitting. There are plenty of youtube videos that will show you how to braze a pipe. If you have the flex hose at the top of the water heater they might even have a tee fitting you can just screw on. Do you happen to have a hose spigot on one of the exterior walls of your garage? I just tapped into it from inside the garage. I then ran my waste line down the side of the garage and into the gutter down spout which runs to the street.
  8. Not sure how much flow you need but the Aquami KPS is a budget friendly pump with some advanced features. I had two of them on a 40 gallon. They are only rated at just over 1000gph though.
  9. Thanks for sharing. I'll give it a shot tomorrow and see how it looks!
  10. So I was admiring the coloration you had on your Hydras last weekend. Care to share the settings? Right now I am running the AB+ mimic with a shortened photo period but its almost too blue/dark but I am still getting good par and coral coloration. I was tried the David Saxby SPS program but it appeared super washed out and par was in the 700 range at the top of my rock work.
  11. Thanks! Its a Surface Pro I had laying around. I have it connected to my Seneye instead of buying their web server. It comes in handy for keeping track of test results as well.
  12. The red sea program is the only thing I have ever used so I don't have anything else to compare it to but it has been working well for me. Received a shipment of pods today. Finished up the fuge and got the reactor hooked back up. Also picked up a few sticks from cuttlefish.
  13. My score from today. Last 5 where from the grab bags. Thanks again!
  14. Yes. I have been succssfully using the complete red sea reef care program for the last two years. I dose trace elements based on calcium uptake and test every few weeks to make sure they are still in alignment.
  15. I slowly worked on stuff underneath the tank and on 12/12 I finally got the time to hard plumb in the vectra m1 and convert the stock ato into a fuge. It was almost midnight when i turned everything back on. Still need to get some chaeto for the fuge and hookup the reactor back up.
  16. Decided to start a build thread to track the progress on my reefer 350. I am almost done setting it up so but here is the progress I have so far. Picked up the tank on October 11th 2017. Bought a lot of goodies. '' On October 18th I finally got around to moving my current tank and putting the reefer 350 in its place. Didn't have all the plumbing parts I needed for the vectra so I hooked up a spare sicce pump I had laying around. I added some caribsea sand and about 100lbs of dry rock that I had cycling and filled the bad boy up with some water. Took my son to Disneyland for Halloween. A little after we got back all the parameters were testing good so I started moving over some live stock and corals.
  17. Nice looking tank. I know every tank is different but when i setup my first tank a few years ago I started out with a bunch of acros right after it was cycled because I didn't want to be patient. I just dosed red sea reef energy heavily to account for low nutrients until everything balanced out and never lost a single frag. The only hard part I would say about adding stuff to a new system is you have be prepared to deal with all the nuisances that come with a new tank and stay on top of them. I don't think the worrying ever ends though lol.
  18. I was debating on the 350 and the 425xl. I went with the 350 because I figured the shorter depth would make maintenance easier but after setting it up I feel the 425 would have been fine. Thanks everyone for the welcome. I was sick all last week.....the joy of having a toddler in daycare so I haven't made much progress. I got around to setting up the dosing pumps and received all my plumbing parts. I drilled out bulk heads in the stock ATO to turn it into a fuge and setup the kessil a80. Just need some time to create a manifold and hard plumb in the vectra m1. Once I get it all setup I will post some updated pics.
  19. I am not an koi expert by any means but I have experienced something that looked like this on mine a few years ago. Is the effected area raised up? If so it may be ulcers caused by a bacterial infection. I was able to quarantine the guy in a kiddie pool in my garage and treat the area with off the shelf peroxide. I also got this stuff called Koi RX off amazon but it doesn't appear to be available anymore. You might try melafix in the short term since its readily available. COTS Koi in ridgefield might be able to help you identify exactly what it is.
  20. This was my score from day 1 and 2. Thanks again for the sweet deals!
  21. Hey all, found out about pnwmas via a facebook post from Paradise Corals and after talking to Bret decided to join about a month ago and then forgot I joined. Good to see that most the shops I frequent are sponsors on here. My grandmother used to breed freshwater fish so I have always had a tank as long as I can remember. I decided to make the jump to marine life a few years ago after we remodeled our living room and my 125 gallon cichlid tank no longer fit. I replaced it with a 60 gallon cube which I have been running as a mixed reef. I also had a 40 gallon breeder I recently setup in my sons playroom. My wife bought me a reefer 350 for my birthday in October with the stipulation that i consolidate tanks since maintaining 2 marine tanks took a lot of time in addition to the 3 freshwater tanks we have. So i have since broken down both tanks and have transferred over the livestock and rehomed a few. I realized I usually only take full tank shots when i first setup tanks and don't take many after that because they always are washed but I will try to stop being lazy and blow the dust off my dslr and take some progress pics with this tank. Attached is a pic of the 60 gallon being drained and the 350 being put in its place. I am still waiting on a few plumbing pieces to get here to hard plumb the return but once i get it 100% setup I will try to post some updated pics.
